+wiz9496 lmao yeah Steve Vai has a couple decades of extra practice and experience on Gates.
+wiz9496 it's subjective. but even on a technical standpoint other than time signature shifts I don't see what vai really has over him.

Please! Gates shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Vai, except for the sentence that I just wrote.
please explain in graphic detail in terms of pure technical difficulty. I'm a fan of both but don't see why Vai should be considered so much better. In terms of what he writes he covers more ground but as the other guy he's about 20 years older and sure Vai does more along the lines of the Zappa-esque over the top complexity but this guy just plays music that is more palatable for the average listener and can still play ridiculously technical metal and rock based things as well as being an accomplished jazz player.
