  • You've heard people throw around terms like:
    - Power
    - Action
    - Length
    - Strength
    - Line Guides
    - Reel Seat
...the list goes on and on.
In this video I break down the information you need to know when it comes to buying a new rod for fishing, particularly BASS fishing.
I'll discuss each of these topics in detail so you understand what they mean and why they are important in selecting a rod. I'll also discuss why you need different rods for different lures. Thank you so much for your videos. Watched several of these. Many explained what action and power are but they didn’t explain how the differences mattered for fishing different scenarios. Well done man. You should be a teacher.

You taught my wife and I how to spool a spinning reel. I started on spincast, then a bait caster. My wife likes spinning, so I got myself a dock demon to try it. Now I'm in love with spinning! And this video shows me the dock demon is my type!

Very informative, thank you so much. I am having such a hard time finding my 'grownup' or 'graduation from being a newb' rods and reels. Can't afford the big name brands yet but you made the terminology for understanding rods in general a lot easier to understand. 🎣

Hey Debo, just found and saw this one. Great presentation and loved the rods on the wall as illustration. Clean & concise. As good a visual as PowerPoint could provide in the boardroom. I retired from a career in sales and you really should be in it professionally, if you're not. The $ can be awesome. You are effectively selling for KastKing already and doing a great job! 👍 *Features & Benefits and why you need it. That's sales in a nutshell.

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

The line will tell you about a bite faster than a rod can. A trick I always used when bass fishing with the soft Walmart special rods as a kid. Hold the rod in front of the reel, let the line rest on a finger and keep the pole pointed at where the line meets the water. That trick helps keep the pond scum out of the spincast as well.

As usual Professor Debo schools us on the important stuff rather than just another channel with guys repeating "OMG...OMG...its big one" while they take another sip of their Monster drink. Between Debo and Hat Cam Bass I feel I have a decent handle on bass fishing and the confidence to go and dangle a line without feeling like a tardo if I backlash. And I also don't get sensory overload when I go into Bass Pro to buy some baits. These two guys explain stuff a beginner angler REALLY needs to know to get started fishing with confidence. Dangle on man!

Haha. I was thinking the same exact thing. I just got into bass fishing and been watching tons of videos. These young guys yell 4 pounder before they see it and act crazy and I cant understand half the lingo they use. They also spend the first 10 minutes trying to sell merchandise. Debo is refreshing and a great teacher. I've been learning a lot from him and hes fun to watch fish with randizzle.

The 1 thing you left out here ( I think you did anyways) is line . Mono with more stretch requires a slightly heavier rod to get a hook set where braid with no stretch might require a rod with more give . So type of line is just as important as pound test you’re using

About 3:07 and rod action. If you have two Extra Heavy power rods and want to cast a light lure, and one of them is Extra Fast action and one is Extra Slow action, which would do better with the light lure?

Outstanding! Your presentation is well organized, informative, and concise. There is one minor thing, however. Length is misspelled. Oops!

As someone fairly new to really getting into fishing(especially bass fishing), this video was GREAT for me. Thank you for the breakdown. It will help me in selecting rods and lines. Do you have happen to have a video for how the ratios on reels work in conjunction with the lure?

      @DEBOSFishing  6 лет назад

Ryan U thank you very much man, I appreciate your support. I don't but the lower the ratio, the slower the reel. A lot of it is preference. A 6.3 or 7.0 reel are probably the best for someone starting out. You can do most applications on those!

Right, but do I want a 6.3 for cranking vs a 7 for topwater and so on? I saw how the specific rods from kastking can be used for multiple applications in another one of your videos and that is what I'm trying to do. I don't fish enough nor have the money to have 10+ rods right now. I'm looking to get the most out of about 3-4 setups. Again, thanks for all the help.

    wasup ma brew,,,got a few q's
i notice the guides on rod are weirdly positioned, one is one angle(either looking at the rings horizontal to the rod or the angle they are bent from the rod) while the other is at another and another is the same as last etc,,wasup with that? and how do i know if this is a defect or not?
also how come these rods (ie light) can barely lift 1/2 lb of dead weight ? i tried lifting a 3.25lb plastic bottle of water and the rod was bending like crazy and by the time i lifted it 1/2 inch the rod broke and the line snapped? how come they are able to pull 8 lbs of fish in the water but not able to lift 1/2 lb? is it bouyance and are they not meant to lift any dead weight?

Hey great video and explanation.. what type rod should I buy then? I really cant decide on what length and casting weight rod would be best for me.. I fish for decent size pike up to 20lb casting from a lake boat..using lures about 100grams?
