You know my friend, it's the damnedest thing. Surrounded by a sea of modern utility knives by Benchmade, Spyderco, CRKT, Fällkniven et al. I find myself currently drooling over knives from the company that for me started it all: Victorinox. Some things are forever I guess. As always, your work is brilliant.
Excelsior without the keyring is just perfect. One blade for food (apples/fruit/sandwiches), and the other for sharpening pens or opening letters/boxes. The keyring makes holes in the pocket of my pants, and it always falls out at the most dumb time, as when going downhill on a bicycle or walking in stairs in a building, or when bending down to load your trunk in the car with a lot of bags. Excelsior or Bantam is a dream for us that have somewhat thin pockets in our pants :)
Danke!
Another Great Video Stefan, I must admit, I use knives more purely tools but it's nice to see such a variety of knives presented in such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic way :) Gruesse aus Gross Britanien, K
Hah! Great editorial work, but I was surprised at the intro lyrics! I'm no stranger to colorful language, rather, I'm accustomed to a very high-class experience with your videos. Good to see another swiss army knife review. I have used a Climber model off and on for the past 25+ years. Even though more robust and abuse-tolerant blades have taken the Climber's place in my pocket lately, the swiss army blade has a permanent place in my heart.
As always an excellent and informative presentation, I enjoy carrying and using daily traditional slip joints. Thanks for sharing. All the best from Scotland. Garry
Oh yeah! my favorit knives reviewer doing swiss army knives!!! thanks a lot stefan... you're doing awesome job! i always love victorinox blade steel, keep the edge well and so easy to sharpen... very afforable, great quality and corrosion resistant...
Stefan - I work in an office and the Excelsior is my EDC (although it is advertised as the Secretary over here) I think it is the classiest production pocketknife available and great value for money. Thanks for another great review :-)
I bought a limited edition 2015 pioneer, beautiful metalic blue alox scales. I also have my eyes on a alox bantam, I will purchase that when I order a Leatherman charge AL
I love the Alox models, and have quite a few. I need to add these beauties to the collection. Interestingly I see the Excelsior listed as the Secretary on one of my favorite retailers website. Seems to be a knife with many names indeed. Thanks for the video Stefan.
I was going to do the usual thing, call you "herr Doktor" and give you a backhanded compliment. But.....damnit, Stefan, you keep on improving you videos and set the standard for consumer reviews of knives. Really, your videos are pieces of art. Very, very, VERY well done (herr Doktor :p).
Hi Stefan, congrats for the nice video! I've been thinking of adding a Victorinox "Money Clip" to my collection. What do you think of that model? How do you like these "smooth alox" knives? Is the clip nice? Are the knives repairable at all, in case any spring or tool breaks? Many thanks!
The very first SAK I ever purchased was a Secretary (another name for the Excelsior Alox) -- mostly because I had a Pocket Pal (the same knife w/ Cellidor scales) growing up (it was given to me as a gift). Great little knife! By coincidence, I just ordered a Solo Alox; definitely like the simplicity.
First -- congratulations on your first "fuck" in a video --At least the first one I've heard from one of your videos (It was in the song). Very American of you, sir (meant as a compliment). 2nd, I very humbly see this review as an almost perfect companion to my review of the Victorinox Backpacker/Floral Knife I did a ways back. Great to see the juxtaposition between 2 similar SAK's. Smashing job as always, Stefan.
Yes, the Victorinox site. I didn't search for it, I just browsed through their website, looking at all the knives. I guess I'll try searching for the model number. Thanks!
Which website do you mean? Victorinox? Please note what I mentioned at the beginning of the video. Don't search for the name, search for the model number because Victorinox doesn't seem to be consistent regarding the international naming of the knife.
In the US, the Solo (and the Bantram) are unavailable and the Excelcior is known as a Secretary (and TheUrbanPrepper reviewed it a while back). And the Excelsior is too slippery! Trust me, I know. LOL! By the way, for a German, you sure know your Chicago Blues... and is that a special ring I see on your girlfriend's hand? :o) Great vid as always...
haha, 6:00 "and since it is a knife it comes even with a blade" - what better to say about a good pocket knife ;-))) tnx a lot, very good review, as always ;-)
I never got why they are called ALOX. I mean it's just aluminum, not aluminum oxide, which otherwise known as sapphire (now a sapphire scale would be cool).
Solo sucks because it has zero tactical capabilities (does not lock), has got no other tools/ back up blades on it. There are zillions better one blade choices than the Solo, traditional (Buck hunter series comes to mind) or modern (Spyderco etc)
I too have no interest in tactical knives as the laws governing carrying knives in the UK are VERY strict. Even the appearance of the knife can factor into this if caught with a knife by the police
Reiner Pflanz totally agree, the very description of “tactical folding knife” is a fantasy, the only tactical knives that would be reliable in combat use would have to be a full tang fixed blade, no lock knife could be trusted to be used as a stabbing thrusting weapon.

Thanks for catching up with my old videos! ;-)
Just bought an Alox Excelsior. I am looking forward to It!
Wow you are the first one to explain that. Im just now picking up a solo / pioneer today excellent review like always.
Still catching up with my old videos? Btw, I still think you're a MAGA moron. 😂
Danke.

Thank you for another great review. The alox adds a very classy look to the traditional handle shape.

Thank you for your kind words, very much appreciated!
Another terrific video and by the way, Happy Belated Birthday.
I carry the solo in my lunchbox and use it everyday . Your alox model looks great❤️
Thank you for your very kind words!
basking in the music, another winner Stefan!
Very useful and informative - I think I'll pick up the Alox Solo quite soon!
Good music and knives
Thank you!

Very nice Intro for one very nice knife. 🙂
Great review. I really enjoy your channel.

Thank you, love the music
Another excellent review
Thoroughly enjoy your knife videos. Your choice in music also rocks. Just downloaded a bunch of "The Damned and Dirty's" music
Almost forgot -- awesome to see you getting use outta the pocket clip holsters, brother. I knew you (above all people) would find them useful.

You're welcome.

I recievced my Solo knife in 2009 while living in Flagstaff Arizona. I enjoy using it on many occasions.
Stephen Gonzalez nice beard
@@daniellaw4689 thanks

Yes good solo
The blade came very sharp and it was easy to split the viagra pill in half.
Too much information ... 😂

Why do I al get hungry when I watch your videos!!!?? I own solo and love it!
Where did you get the Solo?? I want that knife but it's not on their website and I can't find it anywhere.

Like two years ago, my excelsior was sold as and came in box labeled as secretary.
Happy Belated Birthday
Yes, the Victorinox site. I didn't search for it, I just browsed through their website, looking at all the knives. I guess I'll try searching for the model number. Thanks!
Got the solo alox on amazon.. 14 quid including post! Nice blade..

Perfect

I want to buy a Solo but I can't decide on the colour!!!!
I always like to mix my styles. ;-)
Super review!

hahaha awesome intro!
0:30 min Am I the only one, who had the vision of the Solo sticking in the wife‘s hand for a second and Stefan eating the last chocolate alone?
My solo has number 0.8710 ???? (plastic)
Yes, I know the musicians are supposedly "Dutch"... but trust me... their souls are from Chicago.
I got them from an ebay vendor. You'll probably have to do some searching.
I bought the smaller one yesterday. Waiting for it to arrive. Going to put it on my car keys n pretend I'm huckleberry finn
Nice i want one :D
My father carries an excelsior, largely because he prefers a very slim knife.
LOL Very true!
the left piece is smaller :D
What is the song at the begining
The Damned and Dirty - John the Evil Homeopath
LOL You can tell he's with a woman because he automatically knew he had to make her piece of the chocolate a little bit bigger...
... and so it goes.
Solo sucks because it has zero tactical capabilities (does not lock), has got no other tools/ back up blades on it. There are zillions better one blade choices than the Solo, traditional (Buck hunter series comes to mind) or modern (Spyderco etc)
I'm afraid my channel isn't for you. I'm not interested in tactical knives at all.
I too have no interest in tactical knives as the laws governing carrying knives in the UK are VERY strict. Even the appearance of the knife can factor into this if caught with a knife by the police
Tactical knives are impractical, ugly and have no style
I prefer beautiful, useful knives
