Thanks for watching guys! Hope that makes sense and honourable mention Callaway mini driver, but quite rare and difficult to get ahold of opposed to these ones here.
The Paradym mini would be something too see 😁
Funnily enough I wasn’t prepared to pay 350 pounds for a used Burner mini ( really wanted one ) but picked up the Callaway mini for a shade over £100 and it’s a fairway finder big time; it’s all about the second shot for me but a steady drive really helps. Very few wild ones off the tee last six months
This was a great explanation of the pluses and minuses of a mini driver . . . something I've been curious about and tempted to pursue . . . perhaps now not so much. Thanks! Very helpful!
I’ve played the SLDR mini loved it
Had the TM bubble shaft burner and loved it
Player A here and I love my SLDR deffo keeps me in play and you have described my golf perfectly. I can hit my driver great 70% of the time but I get in too much trouble with the other 30%
I love a good mini, ive always been terrible with a driver but a good iron player, had the last TM mini which was good but actually too low spinning out of the toe. Anyway worked on my technique and got fitted for the new ping g430max and hitting it great now its a game changer, won't be going back to a mini unless it was the 13.5 as an extra club
I have a TM burner driver and recently reduced the shaft length to 43.75. Early days, but so far have hit more fairways than I ever have previously. Losing a few yards is far less important than keeping my ball in play!
I've had the last 2 burner drivers the copper coloured one and then the black 1 which was the burner tp which had the little groove around the top that was amazing but they were normal drivers just smaller than the ones we have today. I think the cost of 2nd hand and 3rd 4th hand golf clubs is ridiculous now. Not to mention the new ones. Another great video Simon Keep it up.
$449 US is insane!!!
Right now you can by the PXG 0341 X Gen-4 #2(13 degree, but can be delofted) fairway wood for 159.99! And also have spare money to buy the extra weights.
Looks awesome. Wish they would have just made it a cheaper full size alternative to Stealth but that probably would have eaten into Stealth sales.
I'd be curious to see if just using a 13/14 degree 460cc driver with a 43/44 inch shaft would perform similarly to the 13/14 degree mini-driver.
Good content Simon. I have a TM MD 300. It does a job for me while I am working on the actual driver. I don't carry 6 iron or 4 iron so I have space in the bag for one of these.
thank you SAS. I was waiting for this vid
There is no comparison between the SLDR Mini and the MINi 300 and Mini Burner , the SLDR was bad and just launched way to high , My Mini 300 11.5 feels fantastic with a nice mid launch that rips thru the wind ( I also had the 13.5 turned down one degree with very similar results) once you figure out the best tee height and shaft combo this mini beast goes and hits tons of fairways and if you have a upgraded shaft in your Taylormade 3 wood that has the tip on it try it in the mini as they are the same length ,I put my Tour AD DI 7s in mine and for me it improved distance and dispersion , I just cant' say enough good things about it , I still bag a driver but now its only used on downwind holes when I am looking for all out distance.
My own thought would be to fit someone into a driver with 12.5 degrees of loft with the option of toning it down to 10.5 as they improve. That may be more cost effective than getting a mini and later changing it for the full 460cc. But then the shorter shaft of the mini is a sound idear.
I grew up with a Burner in the bag, so I bought this just off nostalgia alone. Also, I’m hoping this will replace my woods as well as build my driver confidence from the tee box on the first few holes
Good info & vid 👏
This video was very helpful
Still use my Aeroburner Mini Driver TP 14* that i take out of the bag on days, the driver drives me crazy, i have no 3 wood (my mini driver is better) and the next club is a down lofted 20.5* 7 wood.
I average 280 with a normal driver, but anything slightly offline at that distance is often gone especially a destructive left pull. Bought the Brnr at 13.5 and I turned it down to 11.5 to open the face up to limit the left miss, and fitted it with a cut down driver shaft to play at 44.5". Had my best round of the year so far in a comp, 270 drives, no left misses.
Its a 2 fairway wood. That's all it is. 2 woods are rare but have been around for decades. If people were allowed to have more than 14 clubs they would have had a 2 wood in the bag for years.
I have one and love it. Heavy weight in front hit it almost as long as my driver with better control
Exactly. That is why its just a 2 wood rather than something revolutionary. I used to play driver, 2 wood & 4 wood competitively in the 1960's so hardly anything new other than hype. If you have a tight restrictive swing & are not letting the shaft of a standard driver work for you then this will be almost as long as a driver, more accurate than a driver but easier to hit than a 3 wood due to a larger face. Just a fairway 2 wood & not actually a driver.
I'll confess I bought the new Brnr mini driver because I can't keep a golf ball on the planet with a driver. From the first test swing in a shop sim, as long as my driver but much straighter so I spent the cash. It was just the bandaid my golf game needed.
Agree . Played 3 rounds with it and it just gives you confidence and helps keep the ball in the fairway. “Bandaid” eh I don’t care most of us aren’t playing to make the tour either way .
If you don't have a big arc swing like Rory letting the shaft of a normal driver do the work for you then the mini (actually just a glorified 2 wood) will work just as good as your driver. Restrictive swing forcing shots & the mini is the club.
I used a Nike T60 4 wood 17 Degree, goes like a rocket plenty of distance from the tee
I just picked up a Big Bertha 1.5 Mini 14 deg, reg flex 43.5" for £80, do I need it NO! but I do see this a great transition club for my 2 children.
I fore see this in use of teenager for 75-80 MPH with a senior flex shaft in this mini driver as a 150 - 210 yards fairway finder. Then a 7 wood to the green 150-160 yards. ( Hilly course).
I have a X stiff 43.5" shaft I am also itching to try it against my 3 woods. Fun times a head.
I play a set of irons that is 1-p and The only problem is that you only have room for two wedges, a putter and a driver. My Sim 2 is a rocket ship, and I love it for longer courses, but my local tracks are short and tree lined. In addition Ive always hated laying up, especially if a well-placed drive would give me a competitive advantage. I figure by only having this club and some long irons I'll be forced to play smart 😂
Bought one and was so sad hitting it the first time. Hit it once on the range, was a great shot, went straight and long and then I put it straight away.
I'm ok with a driver but the 3 wood has always befuddled me. I use my "Original One" mini driver turned up to 15º to replace my 3 wood. I hit it a LOT better off the tee AND off the deck!
Very informative
i am getting better distance and accuracy with mini than my driver ! awesome mini driver tq TMade
I hit a cobra radspeed 3+ wood better more cosistantly on line and about as far as I hit my long drives so I just retired my driver. Took it over 300 last year several times
I just got the most forgiving driver in the last 20 years a Ping G10 and put a 3 wood shaft in it, worked fine hit fairways, until someone pointed me in the direction of a Ping G400 Max (SAS Golf) goes straight, goes miles...... ok I did have some lessons too, best club I have owned.
great review ....i am wanting one of these new TAYLORMADE BRNR mini drivers but am having a hard time deciding which one...13.5 or the 11.5 degree....wanna be able to hit off of fairway and use as a driver also from time to time....am 58 and swing the driver 90-95 mph..... which degrees would you think would most suit me for my needs ?.....thx....cheers from Vulcan Canada
13.5 for sure if you want to use it on the fairway
@@twang96 thx for your response...cheers
Whats the best colour castle tee for this?
Can’t seem to get one in Australia at the moment
Mine gives me time in the fairway , it is a wonderful place
Here in the states retail is 450 dollars which is so close to an off the shelf big name or a used last year model. It just doesn't make sense at that price point.
For me, looking down on 460cc is daunting. Looks like a physical impossibility. Mini looks sensible, therefore bit more confidence. Just champion 👍⛳️
I would agree its a niche product but the reason I'm considering it is because at my course I have to hit 3 wood off of 9 tee's total because driver is too long or the line is just way too risky for low scores and never need to hit 3 wood into par 5's to reach in two. would you say this is a good option Simon?
Similar issue here, only 5 holes at my course truly require a driver to score well, the rest of them you can use iron or 4 wood. I just ordered the brnr in hopes I can use it on about every hole. Every season I tell myself I'm going to use my woods more off the tee, and they just end up collecting dust all year.
Wow, what an impressive driver. I am debating what to go for next as I am still new to the game, as I change from my package. Driver any recommendations?
a 5-wood 🙂
Radspeed is solid and affordable.
Sim max has got serious distance
Older pings would be great for beginners.
Buy used. All of those are around the same price. 200ish. But you can get a really good ping for less.
Hey Simon what about a driver with 11.5 to 13 degrees of loft and a shorter shaft would this do the same thing
Yeah pretty much mate. 🙌
Cobra king sz 5 wood my choice straight 200 fairway finder 👍
I wonder if the differences in the older SLDR mini driver and the new BRNR mini driver (or the 300 mini driver) change any of your conclusions. Yes, they cost more, but the 300 and new BRNR have larger heads which might make them more forgiving, come in lower lofts, and have more tech that the standard driver have like twist face. I'd say I fit into "Player A" category as my swing isn't garbage, and I'm currently a 15 handicap, but just can't seem to translate my swing to the driver- it's the only club I routinely slice OB. I currently don't take it out of the bag because it can't be trusted, but I wonder if an 11.5 degree mini driver (which can be lowered to 9.5) might be able to get better launch characteristics. Any experience with the newer mini drivers you could share?
Could it be used off the deck ?
I have an old R11 2-wood at 13degrees of loft... head size and shape of a 3 wood, just lower loft... don't understand why they are no called mini-drivers rather than 2-woods :)
How about getting hold of an old burner bubble jet driver and cutting down the shaft to the same length of your current three wood?.... A much cheaper option...
Can’t I use my TM Burner 12* Bubble shaft as a mini-driver?
Asking for friend…
✌️out
I totally get who this driver is for and wish them well in playing "their" game. I would never look down at guys or girls using it either. My problem with it is marketing. Hear me out. If Taylormade produced this size wood with the same specs, but with all the characteristics of the Stealth driver and just called it a 2 wood, I think more people who need it, would buy it. Calling it a mini driver is close to being condescending to people who can't get along with a full size driver. I'd rather have a 2wood in my bag then a mini driver.
Basically, it's a three wood with a larger head. Hence, I have an Original One 😁
Listen, you keep saying you can hit your 5 wood further, I don't know what planet your on, but you ain't hitting no 5 wood, at 18°,,,,further then a mini driver, at 11.5 ° or 13 5 °
Thank you!
Sometimes I think this guy is high..
@@marybetheby5184 lmao...probably is..hahaha
I have the mini driver and a tsr2 5 wood. I can verify that the mini driver goes around 30 to sometimes 40 yards longer and the bigger face definitely helps. And don’t get me wrong, I like hitting my 5 wood too, but that mini driver is absolutely no joke.
I can hit my 5 wood farther than most people with their driver lol it’s possible
“Burning money “
Nice one centurion
Orrr heres another alternative to a mini driver or 3 driver lessons. And this may seem a little too logical for most people, but you could just cut your driver down and inch or two and have the best of both worlds. Shorter shaft for more control and better center contact, plus the larger more forgiving easier to hit clubhead.
Oh yea and cost you 15 bucks instead of $200- $450
older 3 woods do the same for a 20 spot.
Not right to call it a bandaid when you have multiple pros using it on tour. It may be a bandaid if it replaces your driver, but if it's in the bag as a 2-wood or 3-wood then it's a useful tool, and easier to hit than standard 3 woods.
Most players over 10 handicap would benefit from having a 12 or 13 degree Driver. It will go further than a 9 degree and is much easier to launch.
Best tell Tommy Fleetwood to watch this video 😂
Just build a Wishon 919 THI 12 deg driver with a 43.75" shaft. Then you have a "mini driver" with tons of forgivness.
Great video however I disagree. It's also aimed for the Sunday club golfers who only want to take out 7/9 clubs in a little pencil bag. Just because you game a mini driver doesn't mean you can't smoke a driver 🙌👍
Nobody needs it,,but damn everybody wants one!!
Yeah, the downside is worth it. I'll take 250 down the middle more consistently than occasionally hitting it 270-280 but hitting only 25% of fairways in regulation
And second of all...i use a 9° degree or a 9.5 ° driver...so why wouldnt i put a mini driver in my bag, thats between my driver, and my 15° 3 wood
Honestly it's not best for anyone. Take a regular driver head, anything from 10-13°, put a 44-45" shaft in it and you've got a much better club than a mini driver.
Save your money till theyre cheaper and use an older driver from the 2010. Problem solved. You dont need changable lofts. Take out more variables
I can’t see the point in a mini driver it’s just seems like a massive compromise to me.
Just buy the mini SLDR lol way way cheaper
Player b me
The G-string driver.
They missed a trick there mate. 😅
I thought the same thing when looking at the face.😂. You can totally visualize her butt that surrounds it on that club face design.
TM need it, because they’re softening people up for new 2024 driver lineup. Wot, no carbon face ?
This was a TERRIBLE review. All you did was paint this out as a club for people who are bad golfers or can't hit a driver. Firstly, you said no-one who's skilled with a driver would use it, yet Tommy Fleetwood and others have had it in the bag. You didn't talk about the fact you could switch the weights around the head which drastically reduce spin and also reducing the launch angle.
Distance isn't everything, some peoples swing mechanics simply benefit from a shorter shaft. Others simple launch a driver too high. And it doesn't matter how good you are, people can spray drivers all over the place, again where this club comes in is someone who plays tight courses or windy courses.
So who actually needs a mini driver, a lot more people than just someone who can't hit a driver off the tee.
If you play golf and you're worried about money; one, get a real job or 2, take up tennis.
Its a 2 wood or a strong 3 wood people...
