I don't know why she didn't do this song last year during the stadium tour with Poison, Def Leppard and Motley Crue. This was a big hit for her during the heyday of Hair Metal. As was her cover of "Dirty Deeds", but she didn't do that one either. Baffling.

This song is so true, there's nothing worse, except the death of a loved one, than to believe in someone, put your trust in them, only to be deceived by a lie. Leave a person, before you cheat, it hurts less, or I should say a person could get over it faster. Lies and deception are worse than someone leaving. Great song!

Two stories: stationed in Dover, Delaware in the air force, around 1976? We all went to a local bar, The Hub I think , The Delaware Destroyers, with George just wrote "bad to the bone" we were all doing mescaline, awesome night, a few years later at R.I. College, I was in music dept., was an usher for Joan Jett concert, shared my coke with her before the show, she's as cool as they come. (also did coke in RI with a then unheard of band, The Go Go's, they knew how to party)

Doesn't show up on a lot of year-end charts because it's airplay was split between two different years. This was the follow-up to "I Hate Myself For Loving You" which was a smash comeback for her. Peaked at #13 at AOR Radio.
Was a well deserved top 20 hit in the US, Along with the hit album it came off of-Up Your Alley in 1988

If you listen to that tough, semi-raspy, powerful Joan voice, you can hear the heavy melancholic influence of that sound on Hole/Courtney Love's 'Pretty on the Inside' and 'Live through this' albums.

This is a great song.
If this song had been released before I hate myself it would have been a hit. Unfortunately it was released as a follow up and only made it up to number 19 on the Billboard hot 100 chart. Plus it sounded like many of the other power ballads that were out around the same time by other artists. The lyrics are very powerful and it’s too bad it didn’t have more success
It still was a top 20 hit. And the video got major airplay on MTV at the time. Record companies typically never released ballads as an artist’s first single. They always followed a more up tempo release. I agree that this song sounds a lot like the other power ballads that were out in 88 though. This tune sounds like something Cher would have sung around that time.

This video was filmed at a club in Dallas. It's been the lizard lounge for the past 25 years, but in 1988...it was Empire. Great freaking dance club.
