    You actually made a mistake in this test, you said wait for 30mins to 1 hour to let the car completely sleep, but you disconnected the battery terminal, so as soon as you hooked up the ammeter between the negative lead and battery terminal you reconnected power for the first time which will 'awaken' your car and will, as you saw, generate a larger current that settles down over time. The way you should do this is let your car sleep as mentioned, leave the battery hooked up, then attach the ammeter to the negative cable and the negative post and THEN remove the main negative lead, this doesn't interrupt the power supply or cause the car to reboot or 'awaken' and gives you an accurate sleep power consumption reading.

    Hey Bud, I can't thank you enough for this video. I have had battery draining issues on my 08 Ram 3500 dump truck for over a year. I had a shop put a new alternator in it and it even went to a garage that is known for auto electric work. They could not find the problem. I couldn't raise my electric bed most if the time. After watching your video I located a fuse for "Trailer Tow" to be the problem. I removed it and happy days are here again. Thank you so much!

      That sounds like possibly dirt or something was shorting out your wiring plug one time I found an issue like that on a Chevy truck and my tail light would get brighter or dimmer and I got pulled over for it the cop says there's something wrong with your tail light. I tore my hair out and I was heading for Pennsylvania to meet up with a new girlfriend so I finally cut the harness off at the firewall and it made me a whole new harness all the way back then I found I had some burnt wires on a muffler pipe

    When you disconnect the battery and hook those leads up like that it wakes the bus up. A better way to do this is get a fuse buddy or use your meter, disconnect the ground, hook leads between the ground wire and ground on the battery. Let it sit for about 30-45min. The truck will then go back to sleep. Id have to look at the service info again as well. Buuuttt the radio (bluetooth and sxm equipped in particular) will cause a large draw for 30-40 minutes. I belive max spec for draw is like 30 milliapms after bus goes to sleep. Good content. I just want to help you for sure find your issue. Keep up the awesome work!

  • @Echo5Mike

    You can always install a killswitch at your negative terminal. You may have to reprogram your radio, but that will get rid of all the draw. If your vehicle has a compass and a gps factory installed, that will also draw amps as they are always on. If the vehicle is equipped with a factory installed internet connectivity to the manufacturer, that will also be an always on device.
    Hope you find it.

    • @mybobbleheads
      @mybobbleheads 4 месяца назад

      @Echo5Mike if you do this would you need to use the key to lock/unlock instead of the fob or would you install the kill switch on the outside of the vehicle?

    • @Echo5Mike
      @Echo5Mike 4 месяца назад

      @@mybobbleheads yes, a physical key would be required to enter the vehicle because you will basically have zero battery power to activate the locking mechanism. you could in theory install the switch on the outside of the vehicle but you run into many possible issues doing that from something accidentally turning it on such as a passing animal or worse, forgetting where you placed the switch!

    Pulling fuses isnt always the best option. Pulling fuses can sometimes affect any piggybacked systems where modules supporting other modules and vice versa. The best way is to do it across the fuse with a voltage drop test. This can work, but this way can also cause you to miss an issue. You could have potentially pulled a fuse that caused a system to come to life that would cause an additional amp draw. I know everyone hates doing a voltage drop test.

    Nice truck I have a 2005 so did you figure out what the problem was I see that on mine well for one it’s different my back terminal is my positive yeah opposite of what you got there. However I noticed the radio fuse is connected to that hood light and that makes me wonder if somebody disconnected a hood light and there’s a wire dangling someplace I had found a few warriors messed up. I got one oxygen sensor with a broken wire and I really need to get on a little step ladder to climb up there, loop down in there good probably with a flashlight. My eyes are not what they used to be. Lol if you found a shirt in the radio wiring or some thing please point me to your next video to what you figured out right now I pulled my radio fuse but it’s interesting because my radio head stopped working and I kept getting intermitting charge ports on the cigarette lighter working so somethings obviously messed up. I’ve had a lot of mice get in my truck. I’m wondering if there’s some wires chewed under the dash I also did buy a new ignition switch because I know he’s crappy ignition’s go bad that it doesn’t turn completely off and that still might be my problem because sometimes it will start and then sometimes it’s dead so I leave it on the charger but it’s got to be a pain in the neck. But the only thing I like on the Dodge trucks is there four-wheel-drive goes anywhere in their hemi engines the rest of it it seems fiat cheapened. I wish dodge would buy the company back and build some killer stuff. Lol.😅 I’ve been thinking about going to a new Iske roller cam with the nex nitrous. I’m already modified probably about 500 HP I’ve seen the next systems run on the dynamometers and they are impressive i and what they say they are

    Not clear if related but current recall on my 2022 Classic for radio draining battery issue. My 6 month old truck would not start yesterday and measured at 5.6V so clearly an issue. I hope they replace battery with fresh one if constant drain has shortened life of battery.

So they charged me for a brand new battery that went out after one year. Today they have had my vehicle for three days and they found out that the radio usb module was producing power so they ordered this part and it'll be here tomorrow and we hope this will fix the issue but with the amount of times i've been to the dealership lets just wait and see. This guy is close but way off. The three hundred million draw will slow down to about point six amps. That is the real problem. The radio always draws about three amps until it gets booted up. You need to find out where the point six amps is going.
