Just imagining a tiny rat calling forth lightning or causing a blizzard is crazy. Pokemon moves and who can learn them make no sense.

Honestly, he should have let them evolve. Route 1 would still be on their stat screens, so they'd still be Route 1 Pokémon even in the form of Raticate and Pidgeot.

That’s because stone evolutions don’t learn more than 2 moves, learn everything with the mid stage then evolve it

I’ve beaten the game with a single Pidgey and a single Rattata in separate runs. Thanks for exposing people to this way of playing the game. If you are willing to challenge yourself then you can do some really fun things with these games and fall back in love with them all over again.

Hey man nice video! One issue that arrises is that the gameplay footage and voice over don't match up at all during most of the video. The audio and footage are nice but maybe slow the footage down a little and try to have what your saying line up. for example, You say Gengar dies too Rat2 and a couple seconds before the video actually shows it. try to sync them up better just a suggestion! pretty great video idea tho!
I played through Fire Red once with just a Rattata. It was a great time.

So for anyone that has read pokemon special, I always call it the Yellow challenge. You can only catch pokemon available before obtaining the first badge. No glitches or exploits allowed. Dupes are okay, gift pokemon are not. I've done this for fun in all games. SwSh & SV make this challenge pointless, but feel free to try it in any other game.

I played through Let's Go Pikachu recently and had a Rattata for the first time and LOVED him. Never knew he was such a little beast. It's awesome to see someone else experience that as well haha.

This is pretty much what I do. I build my team early around route 1 - viridian city and it stays that way through out the game. I catch others but those are just getting extras

This is me when I was a kid. Literally composed my team of pokemon within the first two routes and by the middle of the game i only really trained my top three "strongest" members and by the end I trained my starter. I did not understand that some pokemon were better than others stat wise and I did not understand type match ups as a kid. I might as well have been playing a dark souls game because I thought it was so difficult.
