What Jim Caviezel went through making this movie is insanity! He was struck by lightning multiple times, accidentally took 1 of those whip lashes giving him a 14-inch gash (it's in the movie) , the cross fell on him & his head giving him a grade-3 concussion and biting through his tounge (it's in the movie), he dislocated his shoulder multiple times carrying the cross, caught pneumonia and a really bad lung infection that almost killed him. He was in the hospital for a month. The devil really didn't want Jim Caviezel playing this role

I remember seeing "The Passion" in the theater in 2004. There was weeping throughout the movie esp. when Jesus was getting unmercifully whipped. When the movie ended, no one left while the credits were rolling. The lights finally turned on, and we all got up and left in silence. I drove in silence all the way home just trying to take in what I just witnessed. I have never experienced anything like this before or since. Wonderful reaction btw. You two were heartfelt throughout the viewing. May God continue to reveal himself to the both of you, in Jesus Name.

People going into this movie should be aware, though. This is NOT about the life of Jesus, his teachings, his followers, his journey through the Middle East to lands outside Israel... This movie is about his torture and death. And while the elimination of original sin is a big deal, it's NOT the only thing people should remember Jesus for. Good movie, but not perfect.

I appreciate you love Jesus brother but you don't love Him perfectly do you? And the people, the neighbours,do you love them as yourself perfectly? No you don't, nobody can and that's why we're supposed to trust in Jesus alone.
Paul said in Romans in KJV,to him that worketh not but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.
Salvation is a gift of God and because it is a gift,it is no longer of works because then it is no longer a gift. Read through Paul's epistles and that carefully as well as the gospels and see for yourself,we aren't saved by our works but trusting in Jesus and His finished work and believing He is risen the third day and now we do good works because Holy Spirit leads us to and because we love God and people and don't expect anything in return by doing good but those who aren't born again thus unbelievers and unsaved, they do "good" works for selfish gain,if the work is for God then they expect a blessing back or storing up the works to earn salvation but that's not God's intention. There's a lot to say and study but long story short, only Jesus is able to save you and will if you put your trust in Him alone, not in your water baptism, going to thr church, giving tithes, praying and reading the Bible and the others stuff,we can't bribe God with our filthy rags to let us in Heaven.
      Trust Jesus only,God bless.

Whats the significance of the temple veil being torn? Above all, the tearing of the veil at the moment of Jesus’ death dramatically symbolized that His sacrifice, the shedding of His own blood, was a sufficient atonement for sins. It signified that now the way into the Holy of Holies was open for all people, for all time, both Jew and Gentile.
In a sense, the veil was symbolic of Christ Himself as the only way to the Father (John 14:6). This is indicated by the fact that the high priest had to enter the Holy of Holies through the veil. Now Christ is our superior High Priest, and as believers in His finished work, we partake of His better priesthood. We can now enter the Holy of Holies through Him.

Hello! I am a theology student at university, and study the bible in depth. There's a few things I would like to add for better understanding:
5:41 In the Middle East it was quite common to do a simple kiss to greet someone, here its used to identify Jesus. Where I live in the middle east its still common to do a "nose kiss" to greet someone.
11:00 Here Jesus says "I am" (a divine title, God told Moses "tell the Israelites that I AM has sent you", Jesus is claiming to be the "I AM", then He quotes from scripture, the book of Daniel: "And there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven." (Daniel 7:13)
15:45 Herod was the current King of Judea, although they were under occupation of Rome
18:45 Barabbas wanted to overthrow Rome, its interesting to note here that Bar-Abba in hebrew/aramaic meant "son of the father", the crowd was given 2 choices, the rebellious son of the father, or the true Son of God the Father, they chose the former
31:46 My favourite scene ever, this verse actually comes from Revelation: 21, where Jesus describes how He will create a new Heaven and Earth.
33:15 This is Simon of Cyrene. I've taken this verse/scene to show that in life we all must carry our cross, but it doesnt mean we can't have a Simon of Cyrene to help us carry it
37:00 One criminal asks to be saved physically, the other just merely asks to be remembered. "Everyone who suffers is on a cross, we can either be like the one on the left and asked to be taken down, or like the one on the right and ask to be taken up"
40:00 The temple veil separating the most holy part was torn, this represents that God and Man are no longer separated, but that Jesus finally bridged the gap!
I hope this helps! God bless you! Always remember that God had one son on Earth without sin, but never one without suffering..
"You cannot love without suffering, nor suffer without love"

The actor of this movie, Jim Caviezel who portrayed Jesus said in his interviews that he literally suffered a lot during filming of this movie. His shoulder was dislocated while bearing that almost 200 pound cross, he was whipped accidentally while doing the whipping scene that leaves a 14-inch scar on his back, struck by lightning twice while filming the sermon on the mount (love your neighbor scene), suffered hypothermia in shooting the crucifixion scenes. But that doesn't stop him from doing this and he was actually proud that he overcame those suffering for the greater good of this movie. He literally was Jesus at that time.
Excited to see him again in the sequel, hopefully it drops sooner.

Without the voluntary act of the Lord Jesus laying down his life we have no hope of the salvation of our soul. He was paying the price we owed. Also, Barabbas represents us. Jesus took the punishment we deserve.

    • @ferdinandpangan1902
      @ferdinandpangan1902 2 месяца назад +3

It actually occurred to me that Barabbas may have not been his real name -- but if it did, as written in the Scripture, then this is something even more than coincidence. If you will analyze ( do correct me if I'm wrong) the name, "Barabbas" is a name which is a compound word in Hebrew that means, "son of the father" ("Bar" meaning "Son", and "Abba" meaning "Father"). Thus "Bar-abbas" or "Barabbas" is a son of the "father" -- which in this case, the "father" of all humanity, which is Adam, the first man, who sadly sinned and fell off from grace, and with him, all of humanity falls into the same tendency of sin. Our Lord Jesus Christ+ through His+ Passion, redeems us. In this particular scenario where Pilate allows Barabbas to be set free, Christ+ is sentenced to death. Given his criminal record as recorded in Scripture and in the Roman records then, it was Barabbas who richly deserves crucifixion, not Christ, whom Pilate himself proclaimed that he finds no guilt in, yet in this twist of events which is meant and prophesied, Christ is sentenced to death, not Barabbas who is the guilty one . Our Lord Jesus Christ+ takes on Himself+ the punishment that all the sons of Adam (all the "Bar-Abbas") richly deserve due to our multitudinous sins. Thus in this event, we see Christ+ taking the sentence of death as punishment of sin, which all humanity richly deserved. We now understand more fully now the prophecy of St John the Baptist when he proclaimed to the crowd about Christ+ --- "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" and furthermore, the prophecy of ISaiah -- Isaiah 53.

    • @Lapreghiera

There were many "Barabbas" in that time, it was like a title given attributed to anyone who fought against Roman rule through violence and uprising because of how mainstream judaism interpreted and taught what the messiah would do for Israel. And that's how the sadduccee/pharisees manipulated the Romans into the mix. The jews were convicted by his teaching of righteousness of their sins and hypocrisy to desire his death. But they tell the Romans "he says he's a king, he has a kingdom that is greater than Rome and will take over...." So they try to paint him as another "Barabbas" with no evidence, when he truly is the son of God.

The meaning of the flashback scene when Christ as a carpenter was constructing the "high table" was in reality it was an altar of wood for offering Himself to the Father, both on the wood of the Cross and one day on the altar itself offering Christ to the Father in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. That is why He lifted Himself up to sit on the altar to show that He willingly sacrificed Himself to the Father, and until the end of the world that same Sacrifice commemorated and offered again in an unbloody manner, but the same Sacricevof Himself pleasing to the Father.

We cannot imagine how terrible the crucifixion process was. Some did not even survive the scourge, and those who survived possibly carried the cross with broken ribs. Furthermore, criminals were crucified completely naked, including Jesus, naturally. It was the total humiliation and dehumanization of the human condition. Some historians still say that the word "cross" was like a curse at the time and socially reprehensible.

People think their life will get better and easier when they become a Christian. The truth is, because Satan rules this world right now, our lives will probably get worse. Satan attacks his enemies not his followers. But be happy in your troubles because it only means Satan's pissed he lost you and your reward is Jesus and everything He has planned for you. The Lord has plans for good and prosperity for those who believe in Him. We just have to be patient and let God clear out the old world we knew so He can bring us into His new and better world for us. We have to lose what no longer serves God's purpose for our lives before we can receive so much more than we can even imagine. God will not abandon you, He will carry you through, as long as you let Him and keep faith in Him. God bless you.

Wow. I've never seen a reaction to this amazing movie! Weird things happened during the filming of this movie. Jim has been a super devout believer since that time.
Dr's have said that people whipped like Jesus was probably wouldn't have lived as internal organs would've been exposed. To think He did this only because He didn't want us to have to experience what we deserve because of our sin - He loved us so very much. He gave Himself in our stead & ultimately defeated death on our behalf! My heart breaks for those who choose not to accept that free gift. 😢 The debt's been paid for everyone but, like a birthday present, you have to accept & take it. And He never made anyone change before giving them His gift, "For while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us". He'll work to clean one up AFTER they accept His gift. Praise God for His Grace. In this world, ruled by sin, there will still be heartache. But He has freed our souls from death & His kingdom will eventually exist in peace on earth! And it appears to be coming soon. Maranatha! ❤

33:55 this is saint Veronica, Veronica was moved with sympathy seeing Jesus carrying the cross to Calvary and gave him her veil so that he could wipe his forehead. Jesus accepted the offer, and when he returned the veil the image of his face was miraculously captured on it. The resulting relic became known as the Veil of Veronica, they have the vail she used in the Vatican, together with the crown of thorns in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, both relics wield great power which have resulted in so many miracles of healing

      @JerodM 2 месяца назад +2

Those relics being worshiped or revered are nothing more than pagan worship. Jesus didn’t come so we could collect his earthly belongings to enshrine them. Those things will all pass away and tarnish. It’s His words we need. Those will never pass away.

    • @mattkylie6723
      @mattkylie6723 2 месяца назад +3

      @@JerodM
      A pagan misconception!!!
In the fourth century the great biblical scholar, Jerome, declared, “We do not worship, we do not adore, for fear that we should bow down to the creature rather than to the creator, but we venerate the relics of the martyrs in order the better to adore him whose martyrs they are” (Ad Riparium, i, P.L., XXII, 907). `
The Bible tells us that “as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet” (2 Kings 13:21). Here, God worked a miracle through contact with Elisha's earthly remains, his relics. Of course, God could have done this without the relic.
Ok so a relic is an object, such as a piece of clothing or, more commonly, a piece of bone from a saint’s body, which has spiritual value because it belonged to one of God’s saints. The Bible records many accounts of the value of relics and even episodes of miraculous events connected with them. “People brought to [Jesus] all who were sick and begged him that they might only touch the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed” (Mt 14:35-36; cf. Mk 6:56; Lk 8:43-44). It was not uncommon for ordinary objects, like the tassel on the Lord’s cloak, to have miraculous characteristics. Look also at Acts 5:15, where even Peter’s shadow could cause miraculous healings.
Regarding the relics of saints, especially martyrs (about whom the Bible says, “Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his holy ones” [Ps 116:15]), look at 2 Kings 13:21:
Elisha died and was buried. At the time, bands of Moabites used to raid the land each year. Once some people were burying a man, when suddenly they spied such a raiding band. So they cast the dead man into the grave of Elisha and everyone went off. But when the man came in contact with the bones of Elisha, he came back to life and rose to his feet.
      1. The Cloak of Christ (Mark 5:25-34; Luke 8:43:48; Matthew 9:20-22)
The first example of physical relics possessing supernatural powers comes from the Gospels.
Recorded in Matthew, Mark, and Luke the account of a woman touching the hem of Jesus’ cloak in order to be healed presents an exceptionally compelling case for the power of physical things. This woman, the Gospels tell us, knew that if she could only touch the hem of Jesus’ cloak she would be healed.
We know from examples in the Old Testament that Jewish believers in Jesus’ time understood the power of God at work through physical relics. The story of Elisha’s bones bringing to life a dead man (2 Kings 13:20-22) would’ve been a well-known text for God-fearing Jews, and this is just a singular example.

This was an amazing movie. It was extremely controversial when it came out due to the brutality. I saw it three times in the theater with different people when it came out and it brought me to tears each time. The Chosen is really good as well. I hadn't been a practicing Catholic for a very long time but The Chosen brought me back to my faith. It's told from the perspective of the Apostles, and while it takes some liberties from the Bible, it doesn't steer too far from it. What Jim Caviezel went through while making this film was amazing. He definitely suffered himself just to portray Jesus. Good luck in your journey and I hope that you find faith as well. Our existence has little meaning without that belief system. As someone who is older now, and thus a lot closer to meeting my maker than the two of you, knowing that that is a place better than this world where we wind up if we believe in Him is very comforting.

I’ve made a promise to myself to watch this film at least twice a year, to remind me of what my God went through to save me. I refuse to let myself forget His sacrifice, and I’m so grateful that He took my place, even though it brings me to tears every time. I can’t imagine a life without Him-I can’t fathom the idea of going through life without Him

This video was such an amazing and emotional journey to watch, especially since I rarely see any reactions to this movie in particular. I'm a Roman Catholic and I loved your commentary during the film (I only wish your reaction to the Resurrection scene was shown more, I was looking forward to that part, it's such an important and beautiful scene too). It’s also very inspiring to see the eagerness in someone in getting to know more about the life of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, His death and Resurrection through this movie and The Bible (so huge, huge respect). I noticed there were a few questions raised by you during the film, so maybe I can explain further what I know (sorry for the long comment, read only if interested):
    1) The main reason for only Aramaic, Hebrew, and Latin language to be used in this film is for the more authentic feeling of this particular historical background, since these were the main languages spoken in that area. It's good we have subtitles though!
    2) The single Apostle that’s accompanying Mary until the very end is indeed, Saint John.
    3) The primary source material for this movie is obviously the New Testament, but Mel Gibson was also inspired by the Catholic visionaries such as Mary of Jesus of Ágreda and Anne Catherine Emmerich, because their visions provided vivid descriptions of the crucifixion, as well as additional roles played by Mary, Jesus' mother (like the scene during the flagellation, when Mary receives the cloth from the Pontius Pilate's wife). And in terms of Jesus’ wounds he was probably inspired by the Shroud of Turin (which is the actual burial shroud used to wrap the body of Jesus after His crucifixion and serves as a visual memorial of His suffering and is, in fact a holy relic).
    4) The woman shown during the flashback who is saved by Jesus from the stoning is actually Mary Magdalene, who is accompanying Mother Mary and Saint John throughout the film. We don’t know for sure if the woman caught in adultery was actually Mary Magdalene, but I think here she’s meant to represent every repenting sinner that’s been given a chance for a new life thanks to Jesus’ forgiveness. It’s also a beautiful scene, visually- and poetic-wise, and I think Mel Gibson directed it to perfection.
    5) It is also clear that Gibson implemented most of the 14 Stations of the Cross into the movie (12, to be precise). For example, the man forced to help Jesus carrying the cross is Saint Simon of Cyrene (5th station). The 4th station “Jesus meets his Mother” was also present, right after the 3rd “Jesus falls for the first time”, as it is exactly shown in the movie. The 6th station was with Saint Veronica wiping the face of Jesus - btw that’s how the Veil of Veronica came into being, one of the holy relics of the Church.
    6) “I make all things new”, like Jesus said so Himself in the movie during His encounter with His Mother, Mary - that’s actually Revelation 21:5 and it’s a reference to how Jesus came into this world to offer us a chance of salvation and eternal life (instead of sin and death), all because of His sacrifice on the cross.
    7) Jesus, by telling His Mother: “Woman, behold your son!” and to Saint John, his beloved apostle: “Behold your mother!” was not only because of Jesus’s concern for His Mother, but in every sense of the word, He entrusts her with us, as our own Heavenly Mother.
There are so many hidden meanings and references in this movie, the list would be even longer... no wonder it's such a masterpiece and is still moving the hearts of so many people after all these years!
Enough said, God bless you all! ❤

And yet Paul says our only mediator is man Christ Jesus. Jesus rebuked the pharisees for teaching commandments of men as though they were from God,for honouring God with their lips but their heart is far from God,so is with Catholics, just like pharisees, their outside is all pure and clean and beautiful but inside it's full of all filth.
I am not against you rather the abominations catholicism teaches.
If blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch. Do not lean on your own understanding or of these so called priests,go to Jesus and let Him be your teacher and see what the Bible says and do so. Bible is sufficient,we don't need any kind of old or early church fathers,we follow the Christ, not men and Paul was chosen by God to deliver the gospel to the gentiles therefore we're to listen to him. Do not be deceived by their doctrines of demons. You shall know them by their fruits,no good tree bears bad fruits or bad tree good fruits but good tree good fruits and bad tree bad fruits. Many will say to Him on that day Lord Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and cast out many devils in Your name and done many wonderful works in Your name?
But He will declare to them I never knew you, depart from Me,you who practice lawlessness. See how these people boasted before God of their works and weren't let in but called those who practice lawlessness. Jesus said only these who do the will of the Father will enter the Kingdom of Heaven and the will of the Father according to Jesus in John 6:40 is he who sees the Son and believes on Him HAS everlasting life and I WILL raise up at the last day. It is a promise of God that we have everlasting life from the moment we believe in Jesus,no works required, only faith even as Abraham believed God's promise and it was counted to him as righteousness. God bless.
