Plagueis was far more a power-hungry scientist rather than an economist. He could enslave the galaxy through credits but that’s pretty shallow. Controlling money only gets you so far. The full plan would get rid of the Jedi, create a domestic military, and a solid dictatorship with the Sith at the top.
He basically did lol. Why do you think the republic started decaying in the first place? Plagueis controlled the banking clan while palpatine controlled the trade federation. This duo allowed them to dominate and corrupt the economy until only military action pretty much was the only solution. They controlled both money and trade. The whole idea behind the clone wars was to turn sith soft power into the hard power and purge the jedi order while doing so.
Good. Our friends from the Trade Federation have already pledged their support. And when their Battle Droids combined with yours, we shall have an army the likes of which the Galaxy has never seen. The Jedi will be overwhelmed.
This is why economics is important people. Even if you're planning world or galaxy-wide domination it is still needed otherwise your mighty empire will fall apart. Many people who want to rule the world or galaxy or whatever never consider this issue and how important it is. Here is a quote from a popular comic book reviewer that points out why this is important. Linkara: So what will be your economic policy? Dr. Linksano: Huh? Linkara: Your economic policy. I mean sure everyone's going to be your slave and all, but your still going to have to have some form of commerce for people. You'll have to reissue currency across the world to a normal standard.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I'm only into about 2 or 3 of them myself. Linkara is my favorite. In fact, not too long ago he did a review of those Star Wars What If comics where Luke failed to blow up the first Death Star. You know the one where Yoda dropped the first Death Star on top of Sidious. Boy did he have a lot of jokes for that moment.
Your not wrong any empire or nation is only as strong as it’s currency. Some of the greatest empires in history have fallen simply because they ran out of money. That’s what really happened to the Egyptian Empire. By the reign of Ramses III, Egypt had begun to run out of resources to properly maintain their economy. It got so bad that there was official state run grave robbing of the Pharaoh’s tombs. Almost all the tombs in the Valley of the Kings were looted not by some people that were looking to score themselves some easy loot but by their own government. The Pharaoh’s would be moved by the priests into a cache for safe keeping and then the priests would basically loot everything that wasn’t nailed down. But that only prolonged the inevitable, eventually Egypt’s economy got to the point that it’s military power was completely useless and it was conquered first by the Nubians, then by the Assyrians, then the Persians and then the Greeks and finally by the Romans. They were once the mightiest empire in the world and now they survive mostly off of tourism. It’s a cautionary tale of what happens to a mighty empire it doesn’t manage it’s resources correctly.

Sidious and his forebears used and exploited the ICB and its finances to its hearts content and as a stepping stone to galactic domination. However, even when it's use to the Sith, was at an end, the ICB's overwhelming presence and position as the heart of the galaxy's financial institutions and services, meant that they couldn't be destroyed or discarded like other former sith allies.
When you have a planetary government or faction acting as the lead guarantor of most currencies used in the Galaxy it becomes a mighty force not to reckon with. The influence of the IGBC according to Legends was so strong that it even backed the currencies of civilizations found beyond the Galaxy such as the satellite galaxies of FireFist. The IGBC was blessed with near inexhaustible minerals and precious metals in their world Munnulist as well as their colony sister world Mygeeto which made it possible to back currencies widely used on a galactic scale. This is why I was surprised when Watto did not accept republic credits from Quigon Jin when learning about credits because it was not a fiat currency like most of the currencies in our world but was fixed to the reserves of the IGBC which could easily replace credits with nova crystals or other precious minerals they held in their vaults if someone was not satisfied with it. Even though Tatooine was not part of the Republic I am sure the Hutts could have easily exchanged the credits for Quigon since they traded with the Republic or could have simply claimed it’s fixed value from the IGBC
