Nice little video. Just a heads up on a couple tips: 1, where your pipe was leaking a few drips, a bead of clear silicone will help all around will help. You can also get a bulkhead fitting for a couple of dollars. 2, where you sand the hand tool was a called a sander, but if anyone asks in the store for one, it’s typically a file or a rat tail file. I have a diy channel if interested in subscribing to mine. See you around.
like your system a lot btw ive had the fish tank bug for 35 years from 25 0 gallon Aquariums to a 100 gallon pond if you look on Ebay and search for either power heads or pond pumps/ filters there are a ton of Chines made i options for very low prices i am blown away at how cheap cost wise these things are as you probably know the way the Chinese do things is they generally wait for a good products Patents to expire then they can legally use that design without having to pay to use the patten and of course their labor costs and factories can build things pretty low costs by value engineering and utilizing automation what ive found is those fish tank and pond items work very well and for the money you can afford to buy a extra one for parts or a back up if you so incline i really like the overall appearance of the filter with the wood and the sound honestly it doesn’t look homemade or cheap IMO for my next pond i will probably build something similar
They don't wait for the patent to expire, that's for sure. That's where all the knock-offs come from. But you can get cheap Chinese pumps online that work fine, that's what I use.
Nice job, but i would recommend to add a T with a standing pipe to the outlet inside the filter. Standing pipe cut above filter media in case filter is clogged after time, overflowing water can escape in to the standing pipe and drain out instead overflowing the filter box and empty the pond.
Great project. If you have a Petco near you they can order white clouds. Add pothos house plant in the rear and it will both catch splash and filter the water along in the lava rock without soil.
@BayAreaAquatics I'm digging a small duck pond 3 levels down way more then 55g its maybe 200g or more and was thinking koi to keep it clean. How could i build a larger version of this built?
The Home Depot pond pumps are made by BECKET. Maybe you can find BECKET pumps online cheaper. But they're worth the extra money! They last so much longer than the "cheap" ones, that they end up being no more expensive at all.
Thanks for the video! If you're looking for White Cloud Mountain Minnows in the Bay Area, I know my LFS sells them regularly. It's called Ultimate Aquarium in San Mateo!
I’m in Santa Cruz where it’s probably a bit more mild for fish but one issue that I have run into repeatedly with any outdoor water feature is raccoons.
I just got my white clouds about a month ago. Last night was the coldest it's been, dropped down to 53°F. In my area the winters get to be about 34°F at the coldest, and I've been told that's right on the iffy line. Haha
@@DilettanteCulture Its a a tough call. Dec-Jan can create very cold pond temps..upper 40's. Maybe if you covered in plastic in winter. I haven't had any past success with keeping tropicals out past December. I did keep a 10' pool covered. By April I could put fish in it. Long days warmed the water early.
Yeah exactly... I thought about maybe a plywood top? Or even a plywood top with the sheets of insulation foam. I do have power, and can always run a Live Stock drinking trough heater or a 300 watt aquarium heater... I just would prefer not to use that power.
13/64 is about where I begin to regret we don’t have the metric system. Anyway, i never did get a good view of the entire apparatus. It would be better to start with an overview.
This is a pretty good video but it would be better without all the commentary. Instructional videos should just clearly and simply show each step, in order and provide a list of items to buy. I got lost in all of the chatter about everything you did wrong and things you couldn't find, etc.
Dude...cmon how about less talk about what you did blah blah blah. How about a how to and a real list of the supplied you used to make the item described!
What type of pond filter do you use?
No filter... lol
Waterfall stylessssss
I have a goldfish tub (40 gallon) with a small internal filter sponge filter and a diy sump
I said 40 gallon tub but now im getting a 60 gallon tub black with koi and holdfish
I use fish as a filter
Looks awesome
Love this video. Used the idea and made a filter like this for my turtle pond
That's awesome man.

We need few home depo store in the UK ASAP
love it! I have a big pond also formy turtles but I haven]t done any of my filter.i like the way you did so simple but yet sturdy
Great project.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing!
Good stuff bud. She's beautiful and long fin White cloud minnows would love that 👍💪
Did you ever make a list of materials and cuts for the whole pond? You said in the videos you would but I couldn’t find it.. thanks
Amazing video!
You going big bro! I feel it!

Good idea! The bin is smaller than the pond, and mine is right overhead, so if it ever overfills it will actually all run into the pond anyways.
Very cool
Do you have to dechlorinate the water before you put the fish in??
Right on man! I’m in Martinez
Thanks bro 💯
Great, informative video. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber. Cheers.
We are building a 3 stacked similar version. But our spray bar is inside the top box and with a closed lid.
I was debating about doing that, but originally was planning to do aquaponics... I may redo it, since the tote is only $5 haha. But for now, it works
@@DilettanteCulture It looks great. Your video has reminded me that I must really finish ours now :-)
Great project. If you have a Petco near you they can order white clouds. Add pothos house plant in the rear and it will both catch splash and filter the water along in the lava rock without soil.
I found a local store that had them in stock! They've been in the pond for a week now! I just haven't had a time to update and film videos hahaba
@@DilettanteCulture If you add Peace Lily it can just grow roots into the lava rock and then it grows / flowers vertically, complimenting the pothos
I want to make one great job
Very nice video! Looks like it came out nice! I see people use lava rock for their pond filters all the time. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, thought you should know though that PVC is pretty toxic, definitely not potable. ABS would be a bit better.
PVC and CPVC are perfectly safe for potable water. Pleas cite a source for your claim?
Totally loved it.
very nice

Very cool design! New supporter here!
Welcome to the channel!
Bay Area Aquatics thank you! Great channel!
Is there a way to make the water come back out the top so I can burry most of the filter
Thanks for the video! If you're looking for White Cloud Mountain Minnows in the Bay Area, I know my LFS sells them regularly. It's called Ultimate Aquarium in San Mateo!
I found some in Concord :)
Thanks for sharing, new supporter here from the philippines, more power
Ah, Home Improvement references...

How did you build the frame
what is those pvs male and fmale pices to use what are they called
Yes a new video
Have you tried White Clouds outdoors all year? It was a mild winter,I think they would have done fine.

3:31 rasp would be the correct term
That looks great, could also attach a light underneath the wooden box holding the filter. Nice video mate.
What is that black item. Is it stones or charcol
Nice filter 👍
I love antioch c.a
7:11 the birds are going mad haha !
You might want to keep running that cloth it prevents the water from tracking
Awesome, now come build me one
white clouds, hmmm!!! i got plenty, mine breed constantly lol
but im in UK ;)
only bacteria filter?
How did you build your pond. I'd like to see the video
Great video, do you have details of the actual build. 👍
I have a rough cut of the pond itself, still working on a step by step guide
What pump did you use?
The link is in the description!

Bro gr8 informative ,i liked the video ! but instead of talking more go video directly ! so we can save time ,......
6:51 what is this material?
3:10 file
it's called a file not a sander.
