I'm transferring through my work from Taupo to Invercargill in a couple of months. I just can't wait to get out and photograph the incredible scenery down there.
Hey WP! Great video and with snow inbound for Porter's/Arthurs Pass tomorrow, great timing. Thanks heaps, hugely helpful info and fun to watch. I love how much you enjoy the environment and the experience.
I appreciate your intuition and be guided as part of your workflow, rather than just a heady/technical approach. This is how I work as well and it makes it a LOT more joyful - the main objective anyway. @@WilliamPatinoPhotography
You're becoming one of my fav Photography channels on RUclips. I've been watching these since Thomas Heaton 7 years ago! I like your straight on approach and of course, your photos are pretty damn amazing, too! Thanks for this. We are dying from the brutal humidity here in Japan and your winter weather "warms" my heart.
Agreed. To me Will and Thomas are mentor photographers, somewhat working from opposite ends of the spectrum, with Will “shooting from the hip” and Thomas sometimes taking all day to frame a single shot.
Got my coat and beanie on, was taken to a fairyland and totally blown away. Didn't fall on my face in the snow though :) just had my breath taken away. I actually loved the beech forest image with the triangle of light up on the left. My imagination went soaring and I wanted to go there. Thank you, William.
Great photos William; Your methods and approach to the subject and the clear way you describe it is the best I have seen out of the hundreds of tutorials taht I have watched.
Fascinating to see your process from both composition in the field and assessment back at the computer. Thank you for such an interesting tutorial and a fabulous peek at such a beautiful wonderland. on another note, I don't know how your hands don't freeze!
I only delete stuff that is repetitious or I'm 100% confident on. Anything that I'm on the fence about, I keep and potentially revisit down the track. Generally it's pretty easy for me to tell what is worth keeping and what isn't. The exception being abstract and intimate scenes which are all similar but have slight differences.
Love the trees with the snow. Do you always pick images with single focus point? Would you choose a more ambiguous image with a cool pattern? Seems like that would be possible with the trees.
Thanks mate. Yes, in the portfolio I have a collection of intimate scenes which is more a focus on patterns and textures. Most often then not, I'm looking for a solid focal point though. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing Will, these images are stunning - especially love the one with the side-lit mosses on the tree. I love NZ just never been there in winter. I wonder why you use Bridge and Camera Raw instead of Lightroom? Is that just a matter of preference or some other reasons behind?
How good was that! Perfect timing for your video, as I looked at my photos and due to the amount I took, I can now start to prune them back. Your ability to get the amazing compositions is something that I continue to aspire to. As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Another excellent video. That snow scenery is absolutely amazing. I think you were holding the camera in one hand and recording with another hand. That’s difficult today, I think.
Nothing hard to find in that, it would be hard not to! And that early tree that needed zoomed in (or I saw two trees trying to reach together) but you didn't like the sky was coming in, Top Right. You could have AI'd it out :-) Great conditions, location then the light, awesome.
The image with the mosses and the snow is stunning 👏. I'm still trying to crack handholding...i notice when you used yor 100-400 you where at f13/14 and slow shuuter speeds of 1/20 - 1/50 at 150mm +, and ISO200. How the hell do u do that! Are you still exposing to the right ? I'm using a Sigma 150-600mm sports on A7riii and i have to use faster shutter and higher ISOs??
Haha, thanks. The R5 has better ibis, plus everyone’s hands are different along with technique. I’m not worried about being exposed all the way to the right, especially with the shadow recovery we have.
Those trees at 0:20 sec is just ridiculously photogenic 🤩🤩
Hard to take a bad image haha.
Man those tree photos are crazy special. Terrific job brother!
Thanks so much man! Such an amazing sight to behold.

Amazing conditions!! Great video, i wait for the processing of anyone....congrats!!!
Those trees images are just stunning
Thank you :)
Thank you Will, we will be over that way next week to try some landscape shots in the snow 👍
All the best :)
Awesome place William! Comment to feed the range algorithm
Legend, thanks !

@@Rambling_Bob haha. That is so true. Nice 👍. It’s good to grab all these perspectives. And at the end of the day this Aussie has it going on.
@@Rambling_Bob Thank you mate. I think it's great that you can see the different approaches to the art. Great time to be a photographer :)

Excellent video Will, very helpful. What a day in the field that would have been, the light and atmosphere, WOW.
Thanks mate, it was definitely one for the memory books and much needed. This was just the first half of the day too , haha :) Cheers!

Got yourself a new subscriber!
That means a lot mate, thank you! Hope you enjoy some of the other vids.
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography already into your other videos! Awesome collection! Thank you!
Another great video. Thank you
Thanks again!
Amazing video again Will, I have to say though, I would process a lot more than you did, you had so many that I would consider portfolio worthy haha
Haha, thanks mate! 💚👊🏻
I love your workI love your work
Thank you!
Great video. Looking forward to seeing how you use the automatic focus stacking feature in the A7RV.
I never delete my raw files that I don't use, I frequently go back and check again and over the years I found gems

Excellent. Great point about to many images of similar/same thing and photo loses it's impact. Also kudos for the effort going out in that weather:)

Wonderful conditions Will 😮 Your explanation of constructing images was really interesting. Great work 👏
Thank you so much 😀
Nice work!
Cheers mate!

Thank you! Yes, all filmed in one hand whilst shooting with the other lol.
What camera are you using who does the focus stacking in body ?
Sony A7R5. Canon R5 also has the feature.

Yew!
are you sure those are beech trees? idk maybe in new zealand they are totally different lol :)
lol yes, Southern Beech (Nothofagus)
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography oh okay I see, in Slovenia then are a different kind. Cool, love beech trees and now New Zealand ones too :)
