In this video, join me in the wild New Zealand landscape, as I go on a hiking trip with friends to capture sunrise in the mountains. I'll share with you some post processing techniques and tips when it comes to creating compositions with depth.
These videos of you out in the field and then coming back to edit, showing us start to finish are just epic. It's so inspiring! What an experience and so rewarding after that climb to get up there. Thanks for sharing Will. Keep them coming!
Thank you Leanne!
Congratulations, I found this video on the first page of the Google search
I noticed the recent traffic. What did you search?
Greetings from BC, Canada. Excellent video, like the "gentle" approach to your editing and also the tips on composition to finish the video off.
Thanks a lot mate :)
Another great video Will, thanks for the awesome content. Love that part of the world.
Cheers mate!
That’s amazing, wish I liked camping 😁
Awesome trip! Great suggestion to wait a bit before looking at the files so you can approach the processing more objectively
Thanks a lot brother 🙏🏻
Another wonderful video. Particularly like your insights on wide to narrow perspective. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you Mike!
'Lost for words' William said. So am I watching this. It's hard to believe it's real. It's hard to believe New Zealand is real. What a place! Thank you, William... awesome!
Thank you Joan!
Wow, what an experience mate 👏
That morning light,location and composition 👌 💯
Thanks mate! :)
Great video from start to final photo 👌
Fantastic Will ! You have such a gift for teaching others & sharing your passion , loving the new adventures - amazing views and those ‘excitement sound effects ‘ !!!! 😂 BEST workshops on the planet !
Haha thanks so much Iza!! 😅🙏🏻❤️
All around great vid but the perspective info is great. Thank you.
My pleasure, thanks mate
That looked tough but what a end result…majestic!
Cheers mate :)
Really interesting video with back story to image and process afterwards. Relate to those noisy, cold and windy nights with tent roof flapping wildly!! 🌬️
Haha, thank you!
Wow what a spectacular scene. As usual your video was super informative but also not too technical that I couldn’t follow it.
Thanks a lot Dave! 🙏🏻
William, Thank you for the journey, awesome location , stunning image and masterful post process. Love it!
Thanks!
Truly inspirational mate, appreciate the constant little reminders in these videos of those 1%’ers that make all the difference compositionally 👌
Thanks brother!!🙏🏻👊🏻
Love epic mountains. It’s always windy at the top come with the package
Haha exactly. Thanks Shuping!
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography also in my home area we don’t have epic mountain with landscape like yours. I have to drive 6 hours for something like that. How do I get a good composition then? Drive 6 miles? Your image is epic. Just love that landscape 👏🏼❤️

Your videos are always great, they help a lot and I enjoy watching them. God bless you and keep it up
Appreciate the kind words and support. Thanks mate!
Hi Will, I could happily watch one of your videos every morning. I love that region, it's so recognisable and the first time you experience seeing the colour of the water in person it's hard to believe it's real. I would be interested to see what the result of your friends film photography is like aswell. You have put some excellent processing tips in this too. Nice work!
As always, THANK YOU Caroline :) :)
I just came out of photography trip and I was disappointed by raw files, 15 years of doing and I always doesn't understand why till you explain it in the videos. Great explination
Thanks brother
This is very interesting ! I am going to the Everest in a few months and i'am so worried I won't make the most of it photography wise. (can't seem to get good stuff from my new telephoto lens). This video is a very good starting point ! If you (or anyone) as additional tips for those dramatic mountains shots I'd be extremely grateful
Dramatic mountain images really rely on atmospheric conditions. Have a look at the rest of my channel for different tips. All the best out there!
Thank you! Enjoyed this! :)
Thank you Mel ☺️🙏🏻
Thoroughly enjoyed this one on every level Will: In the field, back on the computer, and the theory at the end. Each so nicely done. Similarly, the videos you have put out over the last little while have definitely influenced (for the good) my approach to editing. Learning a lot from you and very appreciative of it. Best!
Thank you mate, that really means a lot! Bit of positive words and encouragement goes a long way. Cheers.
I am very pleased that you showed the process with a very valuable information. ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you :)
Such an awesome experience! Looks like a tough climb!
Spectacular place! There's always a story behind an epic shot. Much thanks for sharing the experience. :)
Thanks for watching!
Good content mate, keep it up.🙌
Cheers mate 👊🏻
Beautiful location and capture.
Informative points on processing.
Thank you Tim 🙏🏻
Great
Hi William, Thanks for a great video. Loves this teaching. Thank you. Can you please tell me where this is? Maybe share a google location. I would love to go shoot here one day. Cheers Bryan
Thanks. Mount Cook national park NZ.
thanks for sharing from in the field to post processing.... is this the handheld shot? i ditch my DSLR because of having a hard time setting up the tripod...thats why i'm into drone now...but seeing how you work in the field..if its really a handheld shot..makes me think to go back using DSLR
Thanks. I’m always handheld 👊🏻
Great adventure and shot. Were you on the hills above the Hooker River opposite Mt Cook Village, or on the other side of the Tasman River opposite Mt Cook Airport looking up the Hooker River valley? And how do you focus stack so quickly when hand held? I use focus shift shooting on a tripod - any special tips for doing it hand held?
I like big mountains & I cannot lie…. 😅 I didn’t know New Zealand had a mountain range called the alps…
😂 Cheers Sam!
Hi William, amazing photos and great teaching. Question about your aperture: Do we have to use f9 if we do focus stacking? Can we get away with wider aperture like f4?
You can but you’ll need more frames, and the more frames you have the more chance of an error when blending in post. I still use a narrow aperture in order to get as much overlap as possible.
What lens did you used on this shots?
12-24mm
