this is amazing. i remember being a child coming across this video, being traumatised but obsessed with it and rewatching it many times. i couldn’t comprehend at the time what this film was about.
as an adult, i had entirely forgotten about this film and the possibility of its meaning. it’s incredible to be able to rewatch this across these two points of time in my lifespan and reconcile with my child self and collective childhoods with a newfound understanding and resonance. this is a fucking masterpiece and i’m so glad that it blew up in the way it did because of its absurdity to hopefully resonate with more people.

I really like what this says about creativity, simply put, creativity is a tool that serves a purpose and at such can be of danger, initialy in the video its purpose its to simply lighten the mood and have a little fun, then, as this lighthearted notebook teaches them about creativity, and explicitly tells them that one way to be creative its to listen to the voices in their heads, thats when it starts to get weird and grotesc, because then creativity becomes then becomes to serve those ideas in the brain that are not usually spoken, because they happen to appear in the mind of the individual with them disregarding them as of, incorrect, ugly, forbiden, but since the only point its to be creative, to express, they get and out, i feel like this perfectly describes the internet of the times, since, with all the newfound possibilities of the internet, so came the expression of those that are not so well looked upon in our societies

Lore: DHMIS 1-6 actually is 1 singular day this one being breakfast the last one being bed time. When you really listen and think about the song, the people are “not creative” thus meaning they are depressed. The notepad sings “LISTEN TO RAIN, LISTEN TO THE VOICES IN YOUR BRAIN” meaning they have suicidal or dark thoughts, then you see the bird which dies later in the series in DHMIS 5, writes death and when the yellow guy says green( the bird is green), the notepad says green is not a creative color while holding what you think is an x but is really a a cross meaning death. When the camera starts spazzing you see cameras almost like a film, which is confirmed that they’re life is like a film in DHMIS 6, right before the day changes
