  • Window goes down but not up. I diagnosed switch and motor. I have never seen a motor fail in my MR2's. It's most likely the switch needs to be taken apart and cleaned. In this case I was getting 12volt readings from the switch connector and assumed it was the motor that was bad. Wrong. It turns out the 12v coming out of the switch wasn't strong enough and just needed to be cleaned. Next time, I'll put 12 volts directly to the motor connector to see if it moves. Reverse voltage will move it the other way. If you're getting noise while the window is moving then check the plastic gear on the motor or make sure the cables on the pulleys.

Take your switch apart and file the contacts. Parts will fall out when you pry apart the switch, so don't lose them.

How do you put back on the switch? Where do the white parts connect to the contacts on either end of middle?

Hey did cleaning the switch solve your issue? I have 12v and -12v at the motor connector, and a separate battery will power the window, but when I plug it all in and press the switch for up 12v I used to have short circuits to ground. A little freaky at first glance but I'm thinking I have to investigate all the grounds in the car.
