  • Hey guys. Today I´m going to show you how to knit simple beanie.
    We will work in a round so you´ll need circular needles. Maybe you think it is harder work with circular needles but it is not. This is beginner friendly tutorial and I will show you how to work with circular needles step by step so maybe knitting in a round will be new and also favourite technique for you. This knitted winter beanie is made from thick yarn so it wil takes about 2 or 3 hours. We will use knit and purl stitch in lower part of beanie and then just knit stitch.
    I used 8 mm circuler needles and 100% acrylic yarn called Everyday Big from Himalaya.

    Thank you so much for revealing how long the long tail needs to be for casting on! I haven't watched a video that revealed that simple ratio and then I have struggled over and over until I magically had enough thread for this casting on method - but mostly I just go back to the original cast on method with two needles that my mother taught me sixty years ago!! I love the beanie too and am planning to make one. Best wishes. 💖

    This hat is absolutely glorious. It's actually much simpler to make than it seems. Martina uses an extra stitch followed by a decrease as a brilliant way to shift the stitches over in each round and create the swirl.
    When Martina lifts and holds a stitch while knitting the next one and then knits the held stitch, that creates a right-cross stitch. Another way to create a right-cross stitch is to knit the second stitch without removing it from the needle, then knit the first stitch, and then remove both stitches from the needle.
    Since part of the example video can be a bit confusing, these steps might be a bit gentler:
    1. Create the ribbing rows as in the video example.
    2. Start the swirl with a set-up row: Move the marker from the left needle to the right needle and repeat (knit 2, right-cross) around.
    3. Continue the swirl: Remove the marker from the left needle, increase by lifting and twisting the strand between the needles up onto the left needle, place the marker on the right needle, knit 1, knit 2 together, right-cross, and then repeat (knit 2, right-cross) around.
    4. Repeat round 3 to the desired height.
    5. Finish off the hat as in the video example.

      While what you’re saying may work, it isn’t what she did. The additional stitch added in the second round gives you an odd number of total stitches. Since you are doing an even number (4 stitch) repeat, your work will shift back a stitch each round. The extra stitch need only be added once and never removed.
      The two stitches she knitted together in the second round were because of the way she changed color, i.e. knitting old and new color together on the first stitch.

      The second round has no increase. It consists just of (knit 2, right-cross) around. The third row does contain an increase, but it also contains a (knit 2 together) decrease in the same row. The increase is only used to shift the stitches over to the right by one and not to add any stitches to the row, so it's immediately gotten rid of with the decrease. There's never a row with an odd number of stitches except at the very beginning of the hat where you cast on an extra stitch that's used to join the cast-on row into a circle and is lost in the process. What I'm doing in the third row is: remove the marker, increase, place the marker, knit 1, decrease, right-cross, repeat (knit 2, right-cross) around. Each row always has an even number of stitches. If you repeat the third row over and over, each row will be shifted over by one stitch to the right, which creates the swirl.

    Thank you so much for the pattern 😊. It's really pretty. However er, it has to be multiple of 4 and add one more to when start the pattern. Not any odd number

    Hi !! Very beautiful pattern.
    For the brim you had 72 stitches in total.. then you did 1st round of the body with 72 sts, for 2nd round you added 1 extra st (73 total now).
    My question is - 73 is the magic number for the rest of the rounds??
    Thank you 😊

    Very beautiful. 1 question, however. When adding 1 stitch, do I only do that for the 1st row? Do I decrease 1 stitch to make the 3rd row even numbers?

    • @tommyssheep
      @tommyssheep  Год назад +1

      Thank you 🥰 yes add 1 stitch only on the beginning and during the joining in a round you lose one stitch.

      @@paulasuprahasegovic1758You only add it once, so all Roku ds are worked with the odd number of stitches.

    When you begin to join the stitches in the round, I’m getting confused because it looks like you’re doing it left handed. Is the video showing a mirror image for us viewers? I’m left handed and connect them following your instructions but for a right handed person, wouldn’t the end of the cast on be held in your right hand instead? I keep getting goofed up. Thanks for the video

      This is Continental style knitting, holding the yarn in the left hand. Same fabric is created, just different method of achieving the same thing.

    This looks so incredibly awkward. You can knit the second stitch on the needle, then the first stitch and drop them together.

    • @annejenkins5771
      @annejenkins5771 Год назад +1

      That will not be the same. You will be knitting the 4th st & letting it drop off before knitting the 3rd st.
