I live in Morocco and lemons are in season now. My neighbor gave me over 50 lemons from his trees. In searching for recipes that use lemons, I came across your recipe and had to bake it. It was delicious! I will now bake some for my kind neighbors. I'm sure they will love it too. (I predict more lemons will be coming my way after they taste this cake 😉). It's definitely overall better for baking and I live in the US but when I bake I want grams to measure things out for sure, so I always go and convert to grams when I see cups

THIS recipe saved us as 85% of the orders we received were for this loaf. 😭😭😭 I cannot thank you for sharing this. Mine didn't come out as tall or woth the split top. But it's delicious and fluffy!! Lovely recipe and tutorial. For 54 of my 67 years I've been baking - sisters, mother, Aunts, Grandmothers and find this a lovely recipe. May I include that if no loaf pan is had a cake pan or smaller round 9 " pyrex can be used. Double the recipe and a tube pan can be used. We never had parchment paper, so butter and flouring the baking dish, non stick spray or a paper towel on the bottom of the pan, all do the job. Never worry if you don't have the "right" baking pans because in all actuality square, round, loaf, pyrex, non stick, baking glass or tin will do! You can even use an empty soup can or two if it was absolutely necessary 😅 Just make sure that whatever you check the middle with comes out of the center of the cake with nothing on it. Thank you 🥰
This was indeed super soft and moist lemon cake. I reduced the sugar to 150 g, and it was perfectly sweet for my taste. I baked mine for 50 mins at 170°C and 10 more mins at 180°C. This was by far my favorite lemon cake I have ever tasted. Fresh, lemony and so delicious. Thank you for the recipe and a lovely presentation.:)

I tried this recipe today. It came out so decadent! The cake was perfect, moist, light, rich everything! Rubbing the sugar with the lemon zest filled my kitchen with amazing fragrance. I tried it today with orange and believe me it is aaa hittttt.... Ma shaa allah so soft creamy yummy texture....i changed something that added less sugar and replace half quantity of milk with orange juice....

I have just made this and it is indeed super moist. I used Greek yogurt instead of milk as I was running short and cut the sugar to 100g. I added extra lemon, drizzling it over the top when it came out of the oven but it still wasn’t enough for me. I might add some lemon flavour next time…….and there will definitely be a next time. It is so moist it would make a lovely dessert served warm with Limocello ice cream…..I need to invite some friends round!
I cut the sugar down to 3/4 cups like a comment suggested and used a 8x8 inch cake pan and baked the same temperature as the video for 40 minutes and it turned out so delicious!! Moist and velvety is what this cake is :) the amount of lemon is perfect from inside the cake to the outside. Try it!!! 🍋🍰

I made this cake today and it was amazing!!! The fluffiest cake ever, and the lemon flavour and sweetness were perfect. The only thing I would change that worked for me is increasing the temperature to 350°F and baking for around 50 minutes. Tasted great and everyone loved it, I'll be making it lots. Just tried this! Super good overall and very light and soft. -use room temperature milk -I would not rely on the measurements by grams, found them to be inaccurate when it came to lemon zest and the glaze. -took me exactly 50 mins and came out perfect

I'm commenting again just because I love this recipe so much. Always get compliments on this cake, super soft, light and liked by everyone. Best part is that the ingredients are always available and it is so relaxing to make it. Perfect for everyday snacks and especially tea/coffee time.
I just tried this, and it was fantastic! By far the best cake I've ever made in years. I did make a few changes to better fit me, and here they are. One, I added a bit more lemon zest and juice, to give the cake a more pronounced lemon flavor. I also added a spalsh of vanilla, which I definetly recommend. It doesn't stand out against the lemon, just beatifully complements it. I also substutted half the amount of butter for vegitable oil, because it's much more affordable from where I live. I did use a lot less sugar, and since teh doubled the recepie, I used about 270 grams instead of 400, and it was perfectly sweet. This actually made the cake super moist and fluffy, so give it a try. I doubled this recepe, because I had a 9 inch pan, and it was amazing. Then I topped it with a simple lemon curd. (I used a lot less butter in the recepe for the curd, but I used the recepe from Preppy Kitchen if you're interested) Thank you so much for sharing!
@@leslie7240 I don't have the exact measurements, but I used the zest of three large lemons and about the same amount of lemon juice in the video, just around 2 to 3 tablespoons more I would say, just doubled. ( I doubled the whole recipe) It worked really well for me, and the lemon flavor was definitely there and really delicious.
I did not recduce teh amount of milk I used. Kept it the same as the amount in the video. (Doubled of course, since I doubled the whole recepie) and it worked out great for me. Really recommend. Let me know if you want a better explanation of what exactly I did.
@@leslie7240 I also recently (Like a week ago) tried it with half butter half olive oil (25% extra virgin I think) and no taste of olives what so ever. I think it might even have made the whole cake more fluffy and fruity. Just really nicely complemented the lemon. I'll try it with just oil and let you know my results today or tomorrow if you'd like. Good luck!
Absolutely 5 Star recipe! Thank you so much for all your wonderful recipes!!! Note: I Absolutely could not hand whisk my butter/sugar/oil mixture by hand and get it fluffy like yours. I cheated and used hand mixer. 🙂 Everything else, I did mix by hand. I also only had a true 9 x 5 loaf pan and didn't want a shallow loaf, so I did your recipe at 1.5 x ingredients. (I kept the eggs at 2.) Let me just say, your recipe far exceeds anything I imagined! Soft, moist - yet dense, like an awesome pound cake style. I poked small holes into the loaf while warm and let the icing run down into the inside, as well. Then finished off on the cake. Everyone who's considering baking this - DO IT! You will be happy, happy, happy! OMG.

I made mine a blueberry lemon loafwith a crumble topping. Just added a cup of fresh blueberries. I also added about 1/4 of sour cream to the recipe for extra moisture. Was truly the most delicious cake I ever made. Thanks for sharing

when the cake comes out of the oven, is it supposed to be wet inside? since i had no lemons i replaced them w frozen berries. Recipe says lemon juice, so i replaced w water. However the dough was quite firm so i added more and more water until it had the texture as in the video. After baking 50 min it was still wet idk.. moist ok, but in this case it tasted a bit slimy. I baked again for another 10-15 min but still not firm like a normal cake. Should it be that moist inside?
Made it today & came out just like hers. My description would be more of a pound cake texture. I've never been successful w/pound cake cuz they always seem to come out dry. This bread looks but it is not dry at all. I think by adding 2 tbsp of oil really makes this lemon loaf a moist, supple texture. I also was skeptical about the bake temp @ 320 but follow her instructions & baked perfectly (the middle of bread baked evenly). This lemon loaf bread is perfection. I made this the day before and it was yumz! My whole family loved it! First time trying out this recipe and I also used this recipe to made a chocolate chip loaf and it turned out to be moist and fluffy as well! I used cake flour instead of AP flour and reduced the sugar, but it still tasted wonderful. Will definitely make this again :)

I just made this and it is absolutely delicious! 👍🏼😋I added blueberries since I had it on hand and it was great! Also I added more powdered sugar to the icing since my cake was a little sour so I figured the sweeter icing would be better for it and I really liked the combo. The cake itself is perfect and moist and delicious and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. After pouring the icing on and eating it over the past few days, the icing has soaked through to the bottom too and it’s super yummy. I will definitely be making this recipe again! Add more lemon zest and some lime juice to it. Reduce the sugar to half a cup. You'll definitely taste it more. Also add some lime zest to the glaze. It perfects this already near perfect recipe.🍋
I made this in two batches and I cut the sugar in half a cup! And I loved it!! It's not too sweet and I also skipped the lemon glazing because I didn't want it too sweet. It was SO GOOD!!!
I just made the cake today and it turned out wonderfully moist with subtle lemon flavor. I changed to 115g of butter but no oil. Still quite moist. I also added almond extract (1 tsp) and I love the flavor, like French lemon cookies I’ve made before. 💞 The icing is quite delicious with lemon juice. I added a bit of zest to the icing and it turned out well. I did increase icing sugar but it was overall quite nice cake! Thanks so much for sharing! 💜

I substituted the milk for almond milk (almond milk can be a substitute, same measurements as milk would be, add more or less to get the right consistency if needed) and littlllleee less butter bc i didn’t have that much, I had about 80g. And it turned out perfect, best cake recipe I’ve ever tried, so fluffy and moist, much better than store bought or Starbucks ones. Love it!!! My new go to for any cake in the future!

I made this today and it came out so light, moist, and so good! I recommend using a hand mixer instead of manually whisking it since it’s a thicker batter it’ll save you some time and not hurt your arm lol Also you really should use a kitchen scale for accurate results they’re not expensive, seriously if you bake regularly you won’t regret it :)

Lemon Loaf Cake - 1 cup (200 g) white sugar - 2 tablespoons * Mix together - Add 1/2 (110 g) cup softened butter to the white sugar and lemon zest mixture - Add 2 table spoons vegetable oil * Use a whisk to mix everything until the mixture starts to turn pale yellow - add one egg * whisk - add another egg * whisk - 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of lemon juice - Add 1 1/2 cup ( 187 g) of all purpose flour using a sift to avoid lumps - Add 1 teaspoon (5g) baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon (3g) of salt * mix - add 1/2 cup (120 ml) of milk *mix with whisk until smooth ensure that you do not over mix the batter * bake in preheated oven at 320 F/ 160 C for 40-50 minutes - 1/3 cup icing sugar - 2 tbsp lemon juice * glaze the beauty Enjoy Darlings!

Made this, reduced the sugar by 25% and it was perfect! The sponge was my best yet and the lemon flavour was amazing. I may even reduce the sugar some more next time just because I haven’t got a huge sweet tooth.

Lovely recipe and tutorial. For 54 of my 67 years I've been baking - sisters, mother, Aunts, Grandmothers and find this a lovely recipe. May I include that if no loaf pan is had a cake pan or smaller round 9 " pyrex can be used. Double the recipe and a tube pan can be used. We never had parchment paper, so butter and flouring the baking dish, non stick spray or a paper towel on the bottom of the pan, all do the job. Never worry if you don't have the "right" baking pans because in all actuality square, round, loaf, pyrex, non stick, baking glass or tin will do! You can even use an empty soup can or two if it was absolutely necessary 😅 Just make sure that whatever you check the middle with comes out of the center of the cake with nothing on it.

This was indeed super soft and moist lemon cake. I reduced the sugar to 150 g, and it was perfectly sweet for my taste. I baked mine for 50 mins at 170°C and 10 more mins at 180°C. This was by far my favorite lemon cake I have ever tasted. Fresh, lemony and so delicious. Thank you for the recipe and a lovely presentation.:)

I tried it today with orange and believe me it is aaa hittttt.... Ma shaa allah so soft creamy yummy texture....i changed something that added less sugar and replace half quantity of milk with orange juice....

I have just made this and it is indeed super moist. I used Greek yogurt instead of milk as I was running short and cut the sugar to 100g. I added extra lemon, drizzling it over the top when it came out of the oven but it still wasn’t enough for me. I might add some lemon flavour next time…….and there will definitely be a next time. It is so moist it would make a lovely dessert served warm with Limocello ice cream…..I need to invite some friends round!
I cut the sugar down to 3/4 cups like a comment suggested and used a 8x8 inch cake pan and baked the same temperature as the video for 40 minutes and it turned out so delicious!! Moist and velvety is what this cake is :) the amount of lemon is perfect from inside the cake to the outside. Try it!!! 🍋🍰

I made this cake today and it was amazing!!! The fluffiest cake ever, and the lemon flavour and sweetness were perfect. The only thing I would change that worked for me is increasing the temperature to 350°F and baking for around 50 minutes. Tasted great and everyone loved it, I'll be making it lots. -I would not rely on the measurements by grams, found them to be inaccurate when it came to lemon zest and the glaze.
-took me exactly 50 mins and came out perfect

I just tried this, and it was fantastic! By far the best cake I've ever made in years. I did make a few changes to better fit me, and here they are. One, I added a bit more lemon zest and juice, to give the cake a more pronounced lemon flavor. I also added a spalsh of vanilla, which I definetly recommend. It doesn't stand out against the lemon, just beatifully complements it. I also substutted half the amount of butter for vegitable oil, because it's much more affordable from where I live. I did use a lot less sugar, and since teh doubled the recepie, I used about 270 grams instead of 400, and it was perfectly sweet. This actually made the cake super moist and fluffy, so give it a try. I doubled this recepe, because I had a 9 inch pan, and it was amazing. Then I topped it with a simple lemon curd. (I used a lot less butter in the recepe for the curd, but I used the recepe from Preppy Kitchen if you're interested) Thank you so much for sharing!
How much lemon juice did you add and did you reduce the amount of milk to compensate?
@@leslie7240 I don't have the exact measurements, but I used the zest of three large lemons and about the same amount of lemon juice in the video, just around 2 to 3 tablespoons more I would say, just doubled. ( I doubled the whole recipe) It worked really well for me, and the lemon flavor was definitely there and really delicious.
I did not recduce teh amount of milk I used. Kept it the same as the amount in the video. (Doubled of course, since I doubled the whole recepie) and it worked out great for me. Really recommend. Let me know if you want a better explanation of what exactly I did.
@@leslie7240 I also recently (Like a week ago) tried it with half butter half olive oil (25% extra virgin I think) and no taste of olives what so ever. I think it might even have made the whole cake more fluffy and fruity. Just really nicely complemented the lemon. I'll try it with just oil and let you know my results today or tomorrow if you'd like. Good luck!

Note: I Absolutely could not hand whisk my butter/sugar/oil mixture by hand and get it fluffy like yours. I cheated and used hand mixer. 🙂 Everything else, I did mix by hand. I also only had a true 9 x 5 loaf pan and didn't want a shallow loaf, so I did your recipe at 1.5 x ingredients. (I kept the eggs at 2.)
Let me just say, your recipe far exceeds anything I imagined! Soft, moist - yet dense, like an awesome pound cake style.
I poked small holes into the loaf while warm and let the icing run down into the inside, as well. Then finished off on the cake.

when the cake comes out of the oven, is it supposed to be wet inside? since i had no lemons i replaced them w frozen berries. Recipe says lemon juice, so i replaced w water. However the dough was quite firm so i added more and more water until it had the texture as in the video. After baking 50 min it was still wet idk.. moist ok, but in this case it tasted a bit slimy. I baked again for another 10-15 min but still not firm like a normal cake. Should it be that moist inside?
How much sugar did you add? don’t want it to be too sweet for the elders but enough sugar thats its still cake you know :)

Made it today & came out just like hers. My description would be more of a pound cake texture. I've never been successful w/pound cake cuz they always seem to come out dry. This bread looks but it is not dry at all. I think by adding 2 tbsp of oil really makes this lemon loaf a moist, supple texture. I also was skeptical about the bake temp @ 320 but follow her instructions & baked perfectly (the middle of bread baked evenly). This lemon loaf bread is perfection. Also I added more powdered sugar to the icing since my cake was a little sour so I figured the sweeter icing would be better for it and I really liked the combo. The cake itself is perfect and moist and delicious and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. After pouring the icing on and eating it over the past few days, the icing has soaked through to the bottom too and it’s super yummy. I will definitely be making this recipe again! Add more lemon zest and some lime juice to it. Reduce the sugar to half a cup. You'll definitely taste it more. Also add some lime zest to the glaze. It perfects this already near perfect recipe.🍋

I made this in two batches and I cut the sugar in half a cup! And I loved it!! It's not too sweet and I also skipped the lemon glazing because I didn't want it too sweet. It was SO GOOD!!!
I just made the cake today and it turned out wonderfully moist with subtle lemon flavor. I changed to 115g of butter but no oil. Still quite moist. I also added almond extract (1 tsp) and I love the flavor, like French lemon cookies I’ve made before. 💞 The icing is quite delicious with lemon juice. I added a bit of zest to the icing and it turned out well. I did increase icing sugar but it was overall quite nice cake! Thanks so much for sharing! 💜
You should try it with the oil, as this little oil helps to keep the cake softer 😊

I substituted the milk for almond milk (almond milk can be a substitute, same measurements as milk would be, add more or less to get the right consistency if needed) and littlllleee less butter bc i didn’t have that much, I had about 80g. And it turned out perfect, best cake recipe I’ve ever tried, so fluffy and moist, much better than store bought or Starbucks ones. Love it!!! My new go to for any cake in the future!

I made this today and it came out so light, moist, and so good! I recommend using a hand mixer instead of manually whisking it since it’s a thicker batter it’ll save you some time and not hurt your arm lol Also you really should use a kitchen scale for accurate results they’re not expensive, seriously if you bake regularly you won’t regret it :)

Lemon Loaf Cake
- 1 cup (200 g) white sugar
- 2 tablespoons
* Mix together
- Add 1/2 (110 g) cup softened butter to the white sugar and lemon zest mixture
- Add 2 table spoons vegetable oil
* Use a whisk to mix everything until the mixture starts to turn pale yellow
- add one egg
* whisk
- add another egg
* whisk
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of lemon juice
- Add 1 1/2 cup ( 187 g) of all purpose flour using a sift to avoid lumps
- Add 1 teaspoon (5g) baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) of salt
* mix
- add 1/2 cup (120 ml) of milk
*mix with whisk until smooth ensure that you do not over mix the batter
* bake in preheated oven at 320 F/ 160 C for 40-50 minutes
- 1/3 cup icing sugar
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
* glaze the beauty

Made this, reduced the sugar by 25% and it was perfect! The sponge was my best yet and the lemon flavour was amazing. I may even reduce the sugar some more next time just because I haven’t got a huge sweet tooth.
did reducing amount of sugar gave you a better result on raising the cake and fluffly? mine ..... flavor is amazing but I cannot make it sponge 😪
