Finishing Bader, Shogun, Rampage and Machida in a single year when they were all relatively near their primes is legendary. Ironically Shogun is the only other fighter I can think of that had a year as good in 2005.
The entire Shogun sequence just blows my mind every time I see it. The fake guard break to set up that HEAVY left, the elbow after letting Shogun rest for a split second, how patient he is the entire time, and the body shot that finishes him, all of it is just some of the highest combination of skills in MMA we'll likely ever see. IMO he's the biggest what if in MMA
And it's the YOUNGEST champion in UFC history, facing off against the current champion, and Jones comes flying out of the gate with a flying knee and then dominates Shogun for the entirety of the fight. Just insane man

I personally don’t think it’ll happen. The extra 50 pounds, 25-30 being muscle, at a division he’s never fought at, will severely diminish his speed. Also, we don’t know during these fights, if he was on anything because of how easy it was to pass tests. They tests were done just before, and immediately after the fight, so cycling off was easy. I don’t have a lot of confidence in Gane. It’s pretty much a given unless he lands something clean. I personally think he waited until Francis was gone before he seriously started to negotiate a fight at heavyweight. Regardless though, he’ll have the heavyweight belt, and there will be nobody for him to fight because that division is pretty much dead.

I don't think I ever had more anticipation for a fight. I know everyone isn't a fan but that has been my favorite fighter since he dominated Shogun. Can't wait til next week!
