I'll never forget Jon Jones when he was on the come up. My dad and I didn't really have a lot in common or spend a lot of time together when I was growing up. One thing we bonded over was our love for UFC, Boxing and other combat sports. I was a really good amateur boxer and he was a very good wrestler in his day so we both liked the UFC and Boxing. We would bet $20 a fight normally and we'd order the PPV and order Pizza for dinner. Such great memories cause I didn't spend a whole lot of time with him in those days. I remember my dad doubting Jon Jones, I took him against I believe it was Ryan Bader. My dad took Bader and lost. Next fight against Shogun he bet me again and I won. Next fight against Rampage Jackson my dad was all-in on Rampage and bet me $50 and I won that one too. He was even more convinced that Machida was going to beat him but I told him "Dad stop betting against him, I don't want to keep taking your money just admit that he's amazing and he's going to become the champion" and sure enough he did. Finally after how dominating he was against Machida and Belfort he admitted that he was wrong and that Jon Jones was the real deal. Really unfortunate what happened to his career and all the issues outside of the octagon but inside of it, I don't think there has been a more dominant fighter than him.
great story, reminds me of my pop an myself. you are right my friend i agree, there has never been a more dominant fighter, in any combat sport which is saying a whole lot. jon is a blessing for us cause were all alive at the same time, an get to see an enjoy something people can get 10 life times an not see. p.s. look at the real frank dukes an his greatness, an even he had his bad day by a simple, low side right kick to his head, as he attacked his opponent legs, with a bit of a leg slide. it was out of character for him but he knew to be careful of his opponents right leg kick, a french guy, not very big etc.. but just timed a perfect quick but accurate/blink an you will miss it low side kick to dukes head. knock out!!!! you can def find the footage, its low quality 1970s work and takes place on a mat, that's it plus its not a moment they want to emphasize for frank dukes. but even as good as he was IT HAPPENED... another reason people should take a long look at jones.

The degree of talent that Jon Jones has in the sport, which is summed up perfectly in this documentary, makes it so damn heartbreaking that he made the decisions that he made.
As soon as USADA began rigorous testing, Boney never knocked anyone out unless he juiced first. I don't count Gustafsson because he was on the way out by then. Jones fought dirty, trained dirty and lived dirty. In an era when Brazilians were juiced to the gills and holding all the belts, he was our MMA Lance Armstrong...he just cheated better than everyone else. Those "creative" strikes and lanky reach were nothing without chemical assistance.
@@theman946 not defending Jones but the steroids have no effect on his techniques and skill. But it really is hard to get on board with being a fan of his with all of the antics outside of the cage ☹️
@@itsnotthatserious9102 It's not just Boney, look at the Spider. He juiced his entire career and was lauded as an intuitive and creative striker. His "pinpoint" strikes held no power once USADA flushed out his chemical charade. Technique without power is great for BJJ, but throw in strikes and they need to have some force behind them. Mike Tyson threw wide, arcing punches that were criticized by boxing analysts, but they were extremely powerful when they landed and he put many fighters away on pure strength and position (shifting). Some MMA fighters can't (or won't) conduct strength training in order to fit into the narrower weight categories of MMA. They used to make up the shortcoming by juicing to the tits, but now they just come in overweight.
Realistically Jones was a heavyweight that would starve himself decisioning old blown up middleweights by eye poking and oblique kicking. He should have a draw with Thiago, and a loss to Reyes. His best wins are prime Gustafson, DC, and glover. And he was losing the second DC fight up until he landed the kick and went life and death with Gus. All of his recent performances have aged badly. And now he’s gonna face a 40 year old shot stipe and people are gonna call him the goat for beating him. This isn’t even mentioning the steroids.
You can love him, you can hate him, but he is the best fighter ever. Natural talent, great on his feet, even better on ground, he had no weak spot. A true MMA champion.

Great memories u have/had with ur dad 👍
great story, reminds me of my pop an myself. you are right my friend i agree, there has never been a more dominant fighter, in any combat sport which is saying a whole lot. jon is a blessing for us cause were all alive at the same time, an get to see an enjoy something people can get 10 life times an not see. p.s. look at the real frank dukes an his greatness, an even he had his bad day by a simple, low side right kick to his head, as he attacked his opponent legs, with a bit of a leg slide. it was out of character for him but he knew to be careful of his opponents right leg kick, a french guy, not very big etc.. but just timed a perfect quick but accurate/blink an you will miss it low side kick to dukes head. knock out!!!! you can def find the footage, its low quality 1970s work and takes place on a mat, that's it plus its not a moment they want to emphasize for frank dukes. but even as good as he was IT HAPPENED... another reason people should take a long look at jones.

And yeah, of course it’s going to get harder to KO and dominate as the caliber and skill of other fighters evolves and gets higher.
He cheated in every way possible from the start. Is it just you that doesn't see it?
Realistically Jones was a heavyweight that would starve himself decisioning old blown up middleweights by eye poking and oblique kicking. He should have a draw with Thiago, and a loss to Reyes. His best wins are prime Gustafson, DC, and glover. And he was losing the second DC fight up until he landed the kick and went life and death with Gus. All of his recent performances have aged badly. And now he’s gonna face a 40 year old shot stipe and people are gonna call him the goat for beating him. This isn’t even mentioning the steroids.
