Mike and Cus are an example of true soulmates. An aging patriarch and a lost wolf find a family in each other, and gave each other the strength and love to be the best. They literally completed one another. True destiny.
Mike Tyson story is became a lesson not only for all boxers, but for all athletes superstar, that keep and care your money, because not all the time is you're lucky. I remember my Father watched Mike Tyson vs Douglas, there's no Boxing Fans in the world believed that Douglas defeated Mike Tyson, but Douglas did, Douglas broke Mike Tyson undefeated record, it is happened because of Mike Tyson himself, because he's team saiding that Mike Tyson drinking with girls and having a sex that night before the fight, Mike Tyson Underestimating Douglas for him it's very easy fight, so in the day of fight Mike Tyson is not in condition he was still drunk and having a hangover so he lose against Douglas. When Mike Tyson is getting a lose against Douglas he became depressed because he lose he's undefeated record and promoter started not trusting him because of what happened before the fight, so Mike Tyson started using a Drugs and Smoking while he continued to drink with the girls this bad habits became worst to Mike Tyson from rise to fall life style. 500M US Dollars gone in only a years 😂 the debt will increase until he became bankrupt and became poor.
Mike is the reality of a guy who has got better as he aged, as a person. He's faced his demons, admitted to his mistakes, and has done everything he could to be a better man. He his a fighter in the ring and in life.
Best Best Best Ever. He made Boxing 10 x more popular and a lot more ppl started watching boxing coz of him. He was a huge injection to boost boxing over the edge in popularity.
"If he can stay away from the distractions I believe he will go down in history as the greatest boxer of all time".... if only you coulda been there for him longer... without you the distractions became too much.
@@troubleinparadise2190 Being great and being the best is 2 different things. Ali is the greatest because of what he has done off the ring and on. But when if we talking about BEST Heavyweight i think its Between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis

Gone down a Mike Tyson rabbit hole the past few days. What a incredible human being. Experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and has come out a wise and stoic man. Definitely an inspiration for me
I've watched many boxing matches of the greatest fighters in history but none of them have left me in awe the way Tyson did in his prime. His combination of knowledge, speed, power, and ferocity was as incredible as it was terrifying and i've accepted that i'll never witness anything quite like that again.
Wise and stoic now, perhaps, but still a rapist. Everyone adores and idolize Tyson, as do I AS A BOXER..but a human being? Idk. I don't think rape is something that anyone should be able to live down and just walk off. As a person, Inexcusable.
@@Hojson there's no evidence that supports he did that, and that woman was supposedly known for falsely accusing famous people. Tyson did some fucked up things but I highly doubt he did that
Let's not start about how weird those fights look i even watched back the old kickboxing days(k1) everything was just different in both boxing and kickboxing.
Tyson was such a savage he could have had a fight each week and it wouldn't matter. His fights only lasted 1 minute at most and Tyson never got a beat down. For him, boxing matches were just a day off of training, that's all they were.
@@baileyschrimsher1758 to make it fair I've seen fights today that ended first or second round and these Fighters still wait a whole year before they fight again there's no excuse period difference in Fighters back then and Fighters like Tyson they wanted to fight like right now these new Fighters only fight because they're pushed to the brink and they make it seem like it's about the money. They all scared
Seeing mike happy and being shown love almost makes me cry it’s so tragic to see what he went through from a kid to the end of his career. Now he’s one of the most healed and wise men on the planet.
Self described he isnt healed. Its a daily battle for him. Not gonna lie sometimes when im listening to his podcast and he talks about being scared it breaks me up a little bit.
Boxing is obviously a violent, belittling, sport in which MT shouldn't have been involved in at all! BUT, D'Amato had somewhat tamed Tyson. When DAmato died and MT hooked up with the p.o.s. don king, MT resorted back to a sick savage!
I was always a big fan of his, because he was such an absolute maniac, and a great fighter, too. He doesn’t fight anymore, now, of course, and he seems to have calmed down, quite a bit, from the way he used to be, obviously. He hasn’t threatened to eat anyone’s children in a while, as far as I know, so he definitely isn’t as much of a nut as he once was, but calling him one of the wisest men on the planet seems kinda disrespectful, to me, to all the people of the world who really are wise, or, at least aren’t insane, but that’s just me, I guess. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I like the guy, and I find him to be very entertaining, but he clearly isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, still, by any means. Compared to his younger self, I’d agree that he’s much wiser now, but that doesn’t mean he’s a genius, just because he no longer rapes people, to try to make them love him. Let’s face it, the guy couldn’t spell cat if you gave him the first 2 letters. I can guarantee you that. If Mike and I were to take the same multiple choice test, and he actually took his time on his, and tried to do as well as he could, but I just randomly marked answers, without even reading any of the questions, then he would have a 50/50 chance, exactly, of getting a better grade than I did. It wouldn’t even matter what the subject was, either, and I’m not just saying that, because I’m a really good guesser. That’s also assuming that he would answer each question, only once, though, and that he wouldn’t just suddenly wad his test up and eat it, without thinking, and it’s assuming that he wouldn’t sexually assault the teacher, or anything like that, either. Those are all very real possibilities, of course. I actually believe that he’d be able to resist those urges, honestly, but I wouldn’t say that that necessarily makes him wise, though. I know I definitely wouldn’t cheat off of his test, even if he had the questions, and I didn’t. He’s not a very intelligent human being, obviously, but that’s ok, though. There’s no point in pretending he’s wise, when we all know that that couldn’t be any further from the truth. He’s a lunatic, clearly, but that’s why we love him 🤷🏿♂️
Nothing was more entertaining than a Tyson fight...all 30 seconds of it. Easily my favourite boxer ever, the guy was just born to do it. Absolute legend.
Once in a lifetime phenomenon along with Mike Jackson Mike Jordan the first Matrix movie. There will never be another Tyson. I remember when I was kid and my pops watching his fights

Mike's downfall proves what Cus said about boxing being 75 percent mental. A motivated and well trained Tyson without any distractions from the original Catskill team showed us for a short period of time what the perfect fighter looked like. He may not have had a decade long reign but for a glimpse in time he was the pinnacle of greatness in the ring thanks to Cus D'Amato. I don't think there was a more dedicated boxer from the ages of 13-22 than Mike. At 20 you're still agile like a kid but you have peak testosterone, endurance for days and you're as strong as a bull. He had more experience at that age than a lot of guys 5-10 years older. I would take a determined Mike Tyson in 86' on his way to the title against anyone. Phenomenal video.
@@larrylewis1661 I get what you are saying. I think it comes down to what people are considering "best" to be. If we're going strictly by numbers then there is only one best and it would be Joe Louis. If there is other criteria involved then it becomes completely subjective. Mike is viewed in this weird light where his expectations are of a guy that should've went 60-0 and smashed every record. His record of Youngest HW champion is pushing 40 years, and aside from Louis's defense record it's one of the longest records of all time that I'm not sure will ever be broken(not in my lifetime along with Louis's) What made him special accomplishing all that at 20, then capturing all the titles and unifying them is also what ended up costing him in the end. He just wasn't emotionally capable of smashing those records at such an age with the vultures circling in on a mentally vulnerable exceptionally young man. His best interests were intentionally derailed with short term thinking. While I believe we did get to see Mike at his absolute peak, I don't believe he ever reached his absolute potential. I'm not sure how much better he would have gotten, the issue was more to do with maintaining that skill level which is where he fell short and by what Cus meant by boxing being 75 percent mental. That's actually true that he ended up proving Cus right twice.
“It takes more than that to be a fighter” that line hit me ..people think it’s all about muscles but it’s really all in the head you have to be mentally strong and sound

This is the greatest doc I've ever seen on Tyson. I must have watched it a dozen or more times already. Considering there is thousands of videos on Tyson and it feels like I've watched about every one of them, it's quite the feat. I love the slowing down and repeating some of those blistering punches and the dodging. I sometimes think people put on those rose colored glasses when thinking about the old fighters and ranking everyone. I believe if the only thing we had on Mike was black and white footage from 70 years ago and just the stories from old timers, he would have been perceived as this mythical figure. He basically is already. Thank God he was documented to the extent that he was.

Again no excuse, but wasn't that young lady believing that she was going to have Mike spend money on her? Seems like she made some remark about that.
Greatest heavyweight of our lifetime, period. Mike truly was a sight to see. I remember watching him as a kid and being mad that the fights only lasted less than a min. Mike was pure strength, brutality but also elusive. Folks only know him for his knockout power but he had head movement and slips that eluded the best strikers.

"a hero and a coward feel the same" that's one of cus' best quotes imo, that's what courage is. too many people think you need to be fearless, when in reality true courage is doing something even though you're scared
I remember watching Mike fight when I was in my late teens and early 20's, and I have NEVER seen fighters get into the ring looking terrified like they did when got in the ring to fight Mike Tyson in his early days. The guy was unstoppable.
I didn’t know Cus was literally like a father to him, like actually adopted him. No wonder Mike was so broken when he died. Great documentary! Definitely earned a subscription with this one
I knew he was like a father figure, but the fact that he adopted him shows how deep that bond was. And screw Don King for taking advantage of him right after when he was obviously hurting
If Cus wouldn’t die soon Mike Tyson would be different person but when Cus die a lot stuff for Mike Cus was like his father people like me generation who saw that will understand how important was Cus in Mike Tyson life love Cus and Mike very dedication like father like son 😊
That stare he gives his opponent scares the hell out of me! His eyes stay locked like a tiger with it's prey. Its no surprise all these guys feared him. Man's ferocious.
Once again, Joe, you outdid yourself. This is the most complete documentary I've seen. Especially his pre-pro days. Every loss Tyson took was due to his lack of training and support by a bunch of greedy money-hungry assholes. He would have never lost a fight if not for those people he let into his life.
True but in the end there is only one person to blame for letting them into his life. Could the like of Cus and Rooney saved Tyson from himself? I think it's doubtful. The unfortunate truth is that letting the "assholes" into his life didn't cause the problems, letting them in was a symptom of problems he already had. Tyson might have been one of the best boxers that ever lived but he was also a damaged individual. You have to accept him for who he was, warts and all.
@@tonyb9735 Totally agree, but he lost his grounding after Cus was gone and just let everyone else get into his head because he didn't have a "Cus" in his life to keep him grounded like he was. "Mike made the wrong choices..." I still stand by what I originally said. Cheers, mate!
@@tonyb9735 If you place yourself in his shoes at the age of 21 with 400 million it’s difficult to not lose track. At that age he was not wise enough to surround himself with good company. Like stated in the documentary he was a child in a mans body. When you go from nothing to being the wealthiest athlete at the time, it’s impossible to keep focus. When blinded by money it’s difficult to choose right from wrong. If you put any man at that age in Tyson’s shoes it would be the same story.
That’s what anybody would say about any boxer coming through. It’s nothing new or amazing about that? You must be real slow to think that’s out of the box talking 😂🤣!
My friends and I faithfully watched every fight of Tysons. After his marriage and quick breakup from Robin Givons we watched a man quickly go from an unstoppable force to someone who looked like he wanted to loose. I never remember seeing such a transformation in my life
I think he lost some of his speed and head movements when Kevin Rooney stopped being his trainer. Along with a possible slight loss of motivation?? When you're the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World, beaten everyone you've ever faced and got more money than you can ever spend, that's always a possibility.
"I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, the most ruthless champion there has ever been. There's no one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No! I'm Alexander! He's no Alexander! I'm the best ever. There's never been anyone as ruthless. I'm Sonny Liston. I'm Jack Dempsey. There's no one like me. I'm from their cloth. There is no one who can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart! I want to eat his children! Praise be to Allah!" - Mike Tyson
People don’t realize how hard mikes life was. He had to go through crime and seeing his friend die and getting arrested. To only meet cus and start training and then lose his father figure before he got to see him become champion, and then got divorced which was publicly announced. Yet he still won fights and came back from prison. Insane determination
That's the true heart of the champion if you lose just comeback again and fight, there's no boxer can recover from the lose like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.

200%
He’s a lunatic, clearly, but that’s why we love him 🤷🏿♂️
Relax
Nothing was more entertaining than a Tyson fight...all 30 seconds of it. Easily my favourite boxer ever, the guy was just born to do it. Absolute legend.

I almost closed the video when i saw the downfall coming, i just dont want to see it

Brooo.....the emotion in his voice when he talks about cus.....
Cus saved his life. If a guy like him saved my life, I would be like him too.
@michel rood whatever bro. It is called humility and honor for a man you would go out to protect and put your whole life on the line. Cuz D'Amato is one of those gentlemen.
@michel rood What that means, my guy is: When you have a teacher and master everything he shows you. Intelligence, timing, skill, dexterity, even sharpening his technique. You would thank him, but saving his life is where you have the utmost love and respect for your teacher or trainer or mentor.
That is why Mike Tyson has tears coming from his eyes and a quiver in his voice every time he do talk about Cus.
i can listen to mikes story for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. What a champion.

This channel is easily one of the best on RUclips, and it's become my personal favourite. The work put into these videos is phenomenal.
I've watched this video 4 times now. Mike's story is possibly one of the most heartbreaking stories you'll ever hear.
He was a vulnerable person who just wanted a father, as he'd never had a proper one. He just wanted to be loved, as he'd never been loved before.
I hope he's genuinely happy in himself now. And I hope he knows how much people love him, and how revered he is to this day as a boxer, and as a human being.
Thank you Joseph Vincent for making content the way you do.
The jon Jones vid is good check out canelo boardfilm documentary as well
Agree 💯 I started watching when other things were going on in my home with family etc. I never took my attention of the Television from start to finish ❤️👍👌💯✌️

We had Tyson and Jordan in their primes in the 80s. How the hell lucky were we
For over 1hr I didn't blink didn't grab a drink didn't do nothing just fixed to my screen. This is more than a documentary this is everything a documentary should be. The sound, the timing with punches, everything is dynamite. Am in awe of your work Joe

With Cus he was unbeatable...The head movement, using the jab, stepping around creating angles, hand speed combinations, countering, that vicious uppercut. When Cus died he became strictly a power puncher. But in his prime he was undoubtedly the most feared man on the planet.

21:35: Man, what an emotional moment when Cus passed away. I can tell he was EVERYTHING to Mike, the ONLY father figure he had. The way he brought him in and taught him what he needed, that’s a true father figure. If only he had five more years, Mike’s career would have been so different, no doubt about it. Rest In Peace Cus D’Amato, you taught and raised him well as a trainer and father. 😢😢😢
I think he was the only person who he has really respected. If D´Amato would have lived at least 5 more years, a REALLY DIFFERENT STORY OF BOXING we would have speaking about.
Clearly didn't teach him not to attack women , imagine a convicted S.O being your hero!
@@benitolazio8193 He was so young with so much success and money. Coke was prevalent in those days and he had no anchor. No excuse, but I don't know of many who could have handled that with ...no anchor. He was accountable to no one and young. Convicted SO was bad, but the man he became is admirable. Again no excuse, but wasn't that young lady believing that she was going to have Mike spend money on her? Seems like she made some remark about that.
@@centinela24542 Agreed, if he had just five more years, Mike’s story would have been totally different!
Hahaha same
Your dad goes to the toilet returns and the fight is over already
Everyone was mad bro. Especially when we paid $50 for the fights.
Grew up in Vegas. The 80s 90s produced some killer entertainment, Iron Mike , Agassi, Sampras, some other shit. Vegas wasn't allowed pro team sports until recently. Back then I got hype by seeing these singular celebs names mentioned globally.

Here after the Paul Tyson fight 😔
Yep it doesn’t hit the same
Once again, Joe, you outdid yourself.
"Mike made the wrong choices..."
Yep, absolutely, but he wasn't savvy or knowledgeable enough to handle the fame and fortune that hit him so hard and fast and the swarm of maggots that came after his money knowing his mental state. I still stand by what I originally said. Cheers, mate!
We gotta Mike his share of fault too. Even though it was bad ppl around. The last say so was still MIKES and he made bad ChoiCES.
@@tonyb9735 life is a team sport
Notice how cus said “without any distractions he will be the greatest ever” cus knew mike better than anyone and knew exactly what could happen

Licensed professional boxers: “how dare they challenge me with their primitive boxing skills” 💀
Impeccable footwork. Flawless in his youth
My friends and I faithfully watched every fight of Tysons. After his marriage and quick breakup from Robin Givons we watched a man quickly go from an unstoppable force to someone who looked like he wanted to loose. I never remember seeing such a transformation in my life
it's almost like marriage is death for men
To the wrong person
I think he lost some of his speed and head movements when Kevin Rooney stopped being his trainer. Along with a possible slight loss of motivation?? When you're the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World, beaten everyone you've ever faced and got more money than you can ever spend, that's always a possibility.
Complacency... hate that shit!!!!
It was his marriage to that.... Jezebel and the loss of Cus D'Amato, that threw him for a loop. But STILL

People don’t realize how hard mikes life was. He had to go through crime and seeing his friend die and getting arrested. To only meet cus and start training and then lose his father figure before he got to see him become champion, and then got divorced which was publicly announced. Yet he still won fights and came back from prison. Insane determination
Mike's my #1, Big George is my #2, and also had a rough life starting out. Woulda been amazing to see these 2 go at it in their prime.
The two things people can learn from Mike Tyson are Belief, and Dedication. GOAT.

That's the true heart of the champion if you lose just comeback again and fight, there's no boxer can recover from the lose like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.

What amazes me is how they filmed so much of him in his pre professional stages
He was great at 15 years old
Because they saw how great he was at such a young age
