Hey.. I thought mine would have the reliefs as well. I'm not sure if the pistons in mine are original.or not. Don't matter as I just had it bored .30 over. Did you rebuild your engine?
Not yet, had the block bored 40 and honed, thinking of having it decked and a line honed. Heads have been reconditioned, crank turned, and rods reconditioned with sealed power factory pistons, haven't decided on rocker arm setup. What are your plans?
@user-kw8my1cv3x I has it bored .30 over and all the surfaces decked. The crank just needed polishing. The heads were in good shape and had hardened seats in it already. I picked up a roller cam and lifters from Howard's
Matt, I have been watching your video's and love them. You know that I would love to do some of that but somebody needs to get me up off the ground after. I see you have been using Joe to help out. Wish I was close by so I could do the same. Keep up the videos.😀
Hello Matt. You asked about the hardware holding the camshaft thrust plate. My 66 uses #4 phillips head screws. I would say go for the hardened seats on the heads. I also would recommend "How to rebuild big block Ford engines" by Steve Christ. Lots of good info there. George B
Hey George. I was expecting to see phillips screws as well. the engine looks to be factory so I guess they used those as well. I did ask the machine shop to put the hardened seats in. I got a good book from a friend that just finished building his stroked 360 and he said it walked him through it in detail. I'm going to look it over and see if it is a good book to build to. Good to hear from you George.
They make cheap mixing tubs for concrete that slide really good underneath engine stands for spills I've been using them for years because they're inexpensive
Not a bad idea. I thought since this thing has been sitting and draining for months that it would have been all drained. I'll look for one when I get to the hardware store... thanks for the good tip
I will put it out there when I need something for sure. I may need the speedometer drum that goes in the dashboard. Watch my short video I just put out one it and you'll see what I'm looking for.
Not medium riser. They would low riser if anything. The medium riser, low riser, & high riser terms were oriented for the 427. Anything other than the 427 would eventually be low riser. The 428 scj heads were basicly equal to 427 medium riser heads. And they would have bigger valves also. Your heads, im guessing C4AE-G heads will have 2.03 & 1.55 valves. They are good heads though! I ran a set on my 390 for some time. They perform very well! But just the same, not medium risers.
@Exit45Restorations no prob. Also I think u asked about the bolt for the cam plate? They are a big, like a no. 3 Philips bolt. That's what they are supposed to be.
You say casting, I say freeze.. lol. You're right though. They're casting plugs meant to plug the holes left by the casting process of the block. We just hope that if it freezes that those will give and save the block.
Time for a new cam lifters maybe see if they do a Rolla cam for a FE motor also watch out for the cam bearings when installing ford did some stupid things some times they used a over sized in the middle and rear it was not all the time I had that with my 351 C
I did get a new camand lifter for this engine. I got a Howard's roller cam and lifters for it. As far as the cam bearings go I have the machine shop putting them in. It was cheap so I had them install them. I'm excited to get it back and get it together.
the block heads and crank look really good in the video, yes the cam and lifters are worn beyond reusing them.
I thought so too. I picked up a Howard's roller cam lifter and timing chain.
Another trick for the lifters, is pull em till they stick, then yank the cam and push em out.
Powell maching just started an fe , good info. My pistons have valve reliefs, its a 64

Hey Uncle Jim. Good to hear from you. It would be great to have you helping too. My dad really enjoys coming over to help.
How far does he live from you?

cool cat :)
Your cat looks cooler 😎.. I like the shades...
my algorithm is reading my mind, were fixing to pull and fully reseal a good running 390 out of a 73' ferd truck.
That will be a good project. Let me know how it goes. I will hopefully have the block and heads back in a week or so to get started on mine
Yes sir the hex bolts are standard on FE engines
Thanks for the confirmation

Curious about your pistons, maybe look up Liykins motorsports , serious fe builder
Thanks. I'll give that a look. As soon as I get word from the machine shop on the health of the block, I can make a decision on the pistons.
Let me know if you need any parts. Like ANY parts lol got the most randomest things

@jesseduke694 that's what I thought. They didn't look right. Thanks for the info again
They're casting plugs not freeze plugs

Also known as frost plugs in New Zealand and Australia and welsh plugs in the uk
@@fratboyz01 well I'm in UK and we always called them core plugs...
