In all the previous games he's had about 3 guys marking him making sure he couldn't get on his left, that meant he had infinite space to slaughter them on the outside but not be able to get many touches in the box. It almost felt like Southgate realized the best way to get the best out of England is to get the best out of Saka. He put Foden on the right instead of the left to create an overload, pulling defenders away from him and giving him more options.

another reason why saka was better is because of foden. foden being a positional player occupied the half spaces which created more 1v1 for saka who's also a positional player and whenever foden got the ball who tried to play saka in behind. but with bellingham it was not possible as he doesn't stick to his position always drifting. so he couldn't combine well with saka and there was overload whenever saka had the ball as he was always alone.
The combinations on that side with Mainoo, Foden and Saka could really develop nicely. If they can balance the left (Trippier for Gordon/Shaw) and drop Kane they might actually start creating some more chances. I'd even prefer putting Bellingham through the middle instead of Kane.

It was really frustrating to watch England play like that. That performance is not acceptable as per player's quality. I don't know when Southgate will realise this. Most of the times wingers were constantly isolated with no support when attacking. Players are not making runs in between to create space and free other players. Harry wasn't making runs for the crosses. What I noticed was, when England was attacking, outside the Switzerland box in central area there was no one. Compared to Switzerland, England press were shiit. Worked few times but it was shiit. Instead of passing and looking for options, knob heads were talking shots (which were blocked by defence). The fact that, they need to reach to shootout to win is embarrassing.
