I am so glad I found your video. I am buying it tomorrow at Best Buy. You saved me a lot of time trying to learn things by answering people’s questions. I really like that. I dislike it when someone makes a video and then won’t be helpful when someone is trying to learn about it. Thanks.
I recently found your page like a week ago!! And you’ve helped me so much with getting into paper crafts. It’s so lovely to see you back & have a new video up. Hope your doing well! X
Thank you for this review, I have been eyeballing this printer for months, it looks to be amazing and very colorful prints, and the ink seems to last forever
I have a regular ecotank printer that isn’t specifically intended for printing photos and graphics, but I can’t deny that the ink lasts forever, even if I print something with a photo on it. You definitely save a buck with that one just because the ink is so long lasting
You can contact a business which does custom profiles for a printer and then have accurate colors printed. They will typically have you print their test page on the paper you will be using and with the ink that you will be using. Then you get that profile baked into the computer and as long as you are using that printer with that paper and that ink - your colors will be right. For different paper and ink you would have to have another custom profile generated. Not cheap but it reduces the hassle factor.
Such a great review! I brought one two years ago and converted it to sublimation. I now want to get another one so that I can use it for my party favor business. It prints so well with Koala paper. Such an great investment!
Thank you for the review. I just got my printer set up today and this review was extremely helpful! So many videos about converting this printer and glad to come across this one.
HI! Thank you so much for the review! I just bought this but am now feeling a bit overwhelmed. I wanted a wide format for 12x12 items, but loved the photo printing reviews it had. I want to use it to print photos to frame or scrapbook, print out print to cut vinyl for shirts , and possible make copies of my 12x12 scrapbook layouts. Do you have tutorial that covers any of these topics? I print a lot of 4x6 - 8x10 photos.
Your right about the pigment black ink, it’s used for plain paper text documents only, where as the photo black is for photo papers only, if you print documents text ect on the colour setting the pigment black will be used in conjunction with the Die colour inks.😊
You might mention the Active box cartridge that needs to be replaced every 3 months to save 100's this keeps the ink from clogging heads or the excess ink has no where to go.
ik people complained about how long it takes to print good quality. but considering my current printer takes 8-10min to print a high quality photo this is a so fast to me 😂
It doesn't take any time. It's a very fast setup. The only time it probably takes the longest is when having to feed into the rear slot. It needs to be on a table and it has to be fed directly into the printer straight through. But it can print on poster board this way.
Thank you for an awesome take on the Epson ET-8550. Yes, I just purchased ET-8550 and haven’t push it through the ring. Did mostly photo prints from 8 1/2” X 11” to 13” X 17” and it prints amazing. I noticed on different glossy card stock 8 1/2” X 11” it will leave roller marks and this is depends on the brand. Not roller bleeds or ink smearing, but roller indented into paper. That said, have you used any heavy weight card stocks and canvas paper on this printer? If yes, what is your take with printing? As you stated with Koala paper, did you also tried their heavy weight paper too? I have less than 14 days before the return policy is up, so I will be performing lots of test for this experience 😂printer. Thank you😎
Just save a printer setting profile for your logo and save it MY LOGO. Then just go in and select it in the printer settings when your printing it or save a profile for your type of paper so it prints the color your expecting.
Great video! Is tray 1 supposed to be kind of loosey goosey? It doesn’t seem to sit well and it I put it in too far I have to pull the entire tray out to get it?
Great review. I am a paper crafter and I just purchased this printer with the expectation that it would print 12x12 borderless pages. It would be great if you could show us how to set the printer up to print borderless 12x12 for us Scrapbookers. Thank you so much.
Can't tell you how helpful this video is! I have been researching Epson Eco Tank printers for several months trying to find the best fit for the things I print, and have been leaning toward either an Epson 8500 or 8550. One of those things is stickers for my planner, and the tip you gave about the dye ink and what settings to choose has been very helpful!!! Thank you so much!!! Can you only print one page at a time from the rear/top like you shared with us, or will it hold several sheets at a time? I like to print using Koala double sided matte paper (48 lb.) for my paper crafts, and would like to print a multi-page pdf without having to load and print a single sheet at a time, if possible.
@@AdrianasPaperCrafts That's really good to know! Have you perchance used that particular weight Koala paper with the 8550 in the rear paper tray, or a similar weight?😍
@pinkpearlsandplans yes, I've used up to 110# cardstock and it works just fine. That's really the beauty of a rear paper tray, the paper goes in really easily, so you don't have to worry about a paper jam, or anything like that.
Yes, Koala GP paper. I use all of their paper (all the different weights and finishes), including their sticker paper. It can be found on Amazon, or on the Koala GP website.
Thank you so much for your review! ❤ I just have one question to ask you, because I’m a bit desperate. I can not print well on matte cardboard/paper and I do not know what I’m doing wrong, the colors are dull and I have to manually increase the contrast and saturation at each illustration. If I have the wrong paper, what matte paper do you recommend? Have you ever had this kind of problem? Thank you so much!
I'll be honest, besides regular copy paper, I haven't yet used matte paper with this printer. My Canon Pixma used to have the same issue though. It's because the matte paper settings would use up so much ink, causing the matte paper to heavily absorb it, causing dull colors. You could try playing around with the settings, or trying out presentation matte paper from office depot.
Thanks for the review. Have you printed thick card stock with this printer? I was looking to print post cards and was wondering if this printer can handle thicker card stock. Thanks
Hi! We print labels for our herbal products. We usually use the “transparency” setting on our HP to “bake” the ink on. Just bought a new Hp that doesn’t have that feature. Do you think this would work for our labels? We use a glossy sticker paper and if we don’t “bake it on” it will flake off.
I'm hoping to get the smaller version of this printer soon, my only worry is I've heard a few people say it can leave roller marks on thicker card. I want to use 300gsm matt greeting cards, have you tried it with thicker card? Thanks 🙂
Hello Hello! Love the video, I would like to know if it prints on 300gsm paper? I do a lot of covers and there all on 300gsm, any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
It should as long as you use the rear paper tray. And you may have to insert one paper at a time into the paper tray to make it work since it's so thick.
Hi. You mention in the video that you previously had a Canon Pixma. Was it the G540? Do you have any comparison when it comes to print quality? Will Epson be better than Canon? Sorry for my English
Thinking of buying this printer, have you ever tried printing black outlines on any type of 300gsm watercolor paper? As I will only print in black and white, it would then only use the Pigment black, right? Therefore the lines should be waterproof and not dissolve?
The ink itself is not waterproof. It depends on the paper you use if the finished product is waterproof. I have not tried it on watercolor paper, but I will be trying that type of paper soon. But yes, it would use the 2nd black ink cartridge that it comes with, not the photo black ink.
@@AdrianasPaperCrafts I use Arches, Saunders Waterford and Hahnemühle Expression, they are all 100% cotton and cold pressed. The outlines will be very faint and barely be visible, so there will not be that much ink distributed onto the paper anyways. And if it uses the pigment black, it will probably work just fine.
Thank you for a great review! I’m still thinking about it, because I want to print up to 110 lbs of cardstock paper. I’ve seen other people saying that is very hard, but I want to know your opinion. I’ll appreciate your response, blessings!
Any printer with a top loader (paper tray that is on top) should be able to handle 110# paper. My Canon pixma ix6820 has a top loader and could handle thatvweight of paper, but of course, so can the Epson.
@@AdrianasPaperCrafts thank you so much for replying! I have an Ecotank 2820 and it’s super hard to put 110 lbs in it and it just feeds from the rear tray. Also for papers like Koala, water transfers papers and some sticker papers, it leaves deep wheel marks, even if I use thick paper setting.
I got it but not sure about the best setting for stickers. Pictures comes out amazing but I tried different settings for the waterproof vinyl paper (inkject) and they are not coming out good. Any suggestions?
You have to set it to matte since that kind of sticker paper is matte. I can't remember off the top of my head which specific matte setting I use, but I don't think it matters too much as long as you're using a matte setting.
So this printer comes with 2 black ink bottles. 1 is regular black in, and 1 is "photo black ink". The photo black ink is used with koala paper, as long as you set your print settings to glossy photo paper. I use strictly Koala products, and they work perfectly with my printer. @NailArtQueenie I use 110# cardstock all the time with this printer. You can't load 60 sheets of it or anything, but however many will fit, it rolls through just fine.

I use paper that is up to 110# on this printer. You just have to use the rear paper tray.
@@AdrianasPaperCrafts getting a lot of pizza roll marks :/ no matter which tray I use. Very visible on glossy, on matte it's pretty ok but still visible at an angle :(
Does this print well with thick magnetic printable sheets? Thank you!
I personally haven't tried it with that. It would depend on how thick the sheets are. Using the back, top loader would allow it I think
Thank you!! @@AdrianasPaperCrafts
Does this printer print vivid colors on 110lb cardstock? I’m looking to print full color sheets on cardstock and considering this printer because I really like eco tank printers.
Yes, I've used it on all kinds of paper, and the quality is just great
@@AdrianasPaperCrafts thanks for such a quick reply!
Hi! I just found your channel and I want this printer sooooo bad 😅 I was wondering… can you load a few sheets of 100# or higher card stock in the rear tray or do you need to do them one at a time? This is legit my only concern 😂 I have to hand feed my HP and it takes forever. Thanks!!
@NailArtQueenie I use 110# cardstock all the time with this printer. You can't load 60 sheets of it or anything, but however many will fit, it rolls through just fine.
@@AdrianasPaperCrafts you’re a doll! Thank you!! I’ve been looking at printer reviews all day and finally found this one. I’m so glad I did! 😊🩵
Do you mind linking the koala paper that you use? I just purchased this printer and my paper keeps smearing and ink is all over my hands.
I use all their different weights, but I'll link the one I use the most: amzn.to/3ZE0zTO
@AdrianasPaperCrafts thank you so much. I actually just found your ig and followed and found the information for the paper. Just finished placing my order. Thanks a bunches.
its not getting used to it you don't have a color calibrated monitor so you are editing wrong.
What koala paper do you use?
I literally use ALL of their paper! 🙈 Truley. I have koala paper in every weight, so it just depends on what I plan to make, and then I'll pick my paper.
Thank you for sharing
❤ thanks
Thanks
Have you used it as a dtf printer? Any info on dtf??
No, I haven't.
Thank you for this detailed description! I’m contemplating purchasing this printer and would like to know how well it handles cardstock?
It handles it very well. I've user 110# cardstock and it passed through beautifully. It anything, I noticed it doesn't handle thin paper too well. I use 30# glossy, Koala paper sometimes and it gets messy bc it occasionally gets jammed in the printer.
Thanks so much for your quick reply and the feedback!
