    • @meganclouse1072
      @meganclouse1072 4 года назад +18

      @Garrett Patten it was really uncomfortable for me to listen to Tom, in essence, argue with Gabby about the relevance of patience. I really got the sense that he experiences a very narrow understanding of the way some people might exhibit patience. It seems the way he interprets it is that patience results in inaction, but I wholeheartedly disagree with that. It's like the marshmallow experiment or taking a cold shower. Being patient while enduring delayed gratification is pivotal to success in my opinion.

    • @ryummon
      @ryummon 4 года назад +6

      @@meganclouse1072 I think he sees patience as just waiting around for something to happen, without taking proactive actions to make it happen as soon as possible. And he fears that if you play the patience card too long, you might not realize that you where in the wrong path all along and you'll never get what you wanted. He doesn't link patience with not getting angry or upset while you wait, but just with waiting for something to happen in the uncertain future, by this I mean it could happen tomorrow or in a year, rather than taking the necessary steps to make it happen today. That's my interpretation of his interpretation.

      +While still taking action towards a goal or desired outcome. This was the huge misunderstanding in their debate

  • @BrainiacN5
    @BrainiacN5 4 года назад +233

    I think the disagreement came from the fact that Tom believes that being patient means "sitting on your ass waiting". That's not being patient, that's being passive. In the context of achieving things or improving your life, you can't be patient when you're in passive mode because there's no goal to reach when you're not doing anything. What is there to be patient about if you're not in a process that leads to something? Patience is the ability to wait for a result without stressing out, being angry, etc. about not having it RIGHT NOW. It means you're willing to do what needs to be done as efficiently as needed while accepting the fact that it will take an X amount of time to get the desired result. If you work at something to improve a situation, or your life, you can either be impatient, which can lead to conflicts, stress, and decreased efficiency; or you can do the same things with patience, with faith that you will achieve what you hope to achieve, while trying to get along with others to a healthy degree, and focus on the task without losing yourself in negative thoughts, emotions, and tensions. If you set a goal but can't wait for it to happen, there's a high chance that you won't achieve it in time because the lack of patience in itself is an obstacle. You're teaching your brain that the process leading to the goal is less important than the result. That's seeking instant gratification and it is highly counterproductive.

    • @sergthemane
      @sergthemane 4 года назад +13

      I totally see this now that you point it out in such detail. It's the same way Tom generally doesn't agree with the whole idea of manifesting because some people take it out of context and they think it means you can sit on your ass all day and just wish things into existence, whereas it's more like a different way of putting what Tom uses when he says to speak about what you love and let it be known how important something is to you. I think ultimately they probably used similar tools to achieve their success and their disagreement came down to semantics like you said.

      Rob Inerize said it’s possible not guaranteed. I hear you though. How long have you been conscious of what’s going on? I’ve been becoming more and more conscious for a couple years now. First I could retroactively see it. Then I could see it in the moment but couldn’t help but act on it. Now there is a little space (a few seconds) when I can think about what is going on, predict the outcome if I act on it, recognize that this is the moment when I have a choice not to act, but more often or not I still act on it. In my experience this is a very gradual nuanced process and you just continue to fail over and over again until you succeed. And when you succeed it feels like a switch has been flipped (I experienced it successfully with lifestyle habits) but in reality it had been months and even years of gradual work. I am now working on changing thought and emotional habits much like I changed my lifestyle.

The best person that can describe this is Dr Joe Dispenza, try search on youtube you'll see. Becoming conscious is not enough because it is the subconsious mind that is driving you, with its program. Your body was taught to feel and act in a certain way since years. So being conscious okay it's the first step but it's not enough for the brain to begin to reprogram a subconscious mind and a body, build new neurons circuits.

    - (self-punishment for not being aligned with the person you've always envisioned yourself to be)

    I have been a huge fan of Tom and Impact Theory and guestimate that I have watched about 50+ episodes. This one was the first time that I felt like I got to know Tom at a different level. The translation of vocabulary between Tom and Gabby taught me sooo much. I come more from Gabby's languaging style and to hear Tom articulate his language back to her definitely was an "Ah-Ha" moment for me. Spirituality and Science together can coexist if we define the words that we are using. I live in a mystical land and that is why I love Tom and Impact Theory. They balance me out. I am working on having my feet firmly planted on the ground while trying to help others understand how to learn how to gain knowledge from the ethers. Too much of my head above the clouds and I am not able to serve as many people. Today's episode taught me word choices that I can now use to translate my viewpoint better to those that come from the science space vs. spiritual space. Thank you for an outstanding episode.

    Hi!
    Dear Impact theory, I've watched your show for the last year of my life. But to actually get benefits from watching I also use some technics on a daily basis. I'm so grateful that there are people like you and that you are open to sharing this information with others. I had big changes in my life, the trauma of loss was one of them, and I think I was and I am capable to deal with it in many ways because of the ideas from your show. I live in Russia and there are not so many books on those topics and people, in general, don't go to psychologists, it is not welcomed by our society. So your show is a real way to clean out the mess in people's heads. I say it because I can see unbelievable events in my life after I started to watch, read and practice those recommendations. Thank you, Tom Bilyeu, you are doing a great job!
    So, watching this episode today, I've noticed one thing. There were so many speakers who used to have a drug addiction on the show. The question is, how is that possible that people who are extremely judged and dishonored by their society, give back to this world the most brilliant ideas for healing, mental growth, money-making, relationship building, concentrated in their books. So that the same society, after all, uses their words, listen to them, respect them and follows authors’ advice in their life? Does it mean that without breaking through some traumatic experience in your life you won't be able to even imagine what your real abilities are?

      Being in recovery myself, I, too, have noticed the same about many of his guest who have chosen to disclose their struggle with drug or alcohol addictions. Some of Gabby's choice phrases are heard in 12 step programs. What confuses and fascinated me the most from those guests is that they seemed to have moved on or forward from those addictions to live fruitful lives. Reason being that many 12 step programs suggest a lifelong commitment to your recovery and program while showing others who still suffer that they too can recover and live productive lives. It frankly causes a bit of discomfort because it challenges my own belief system.

    What I love about this woman is her vulnerability and authenticity. I'm reading her book, Super Attractor and she does not pretend she has all her shit together. She admits that everything she does and teaches is a process, and not one of us has fully arrived. But we can decide right now to choose better thoughts and a different path and we will be guided along the way to a better future.

    I think what she was meaning to explain to Tom is that patience is similar to trust. Not the same, but similar. For example, when you have a goal and you don't meet in within the time frame given, you don't abandon the goal and chase a new one (that would be if you have no patience). You are patient and trust that by you taking action, the desired results will still happen in due time.

Then it just felt combative on your end. Although, I understand that was not your goal, it weekly became a confusing conjunctive of words that really in the end were not productive, and took a beautiful conversation with an incredible author into a state of exhaustive conversation about defining one word that you refused to let define something you may or may not represent. I usually HIGHLY FUCKING ENJOY your interviews, but this one gained an air of "please turn this off now as it is no longer enjoyable". Though, I did listen to the rest on her behalf. Tom knows how Gabby thinks. That’s why he invited her to his show. Gabby was actually the one getting triggered *I know most viewers don’t really care but I see the argument here so allow me.
    Tom only wanted to translate her work to his audience with a certain set-mind. Even while saying uh-huh and this is fun or whatever while the disagreement, I could tell Gabby was lying - her eyes. When Tom says “I disagree” or something on that note, Gabby shows with her attitude “how dare you disrespect me,” “I’m your guest here, is this really happening?” Gabby is not only a female, but also a famous figure, especially in spirituality community involving subconscious, where disagreement means different from these conscious works done by Tom and others. I wish she wouldn’t take the disagreement personal.
    Gabby did however try her best using the phrases by Tom, and it’s true that Tom could have slow down or deliver differently, but Gabby isn’t what she thinks she is. She might know how to guide others, but not herself. So on that, Tom had a misunderstanding after reading her books and researching her. As the proof, Tom approached Gabby like “tell me more” in a goofy tone later on - what guys do. Tom respects Gabby but she got caught up by what came in front of her which she doesn’t understand and guarded herself. This is a typical move by females or even some guys which I experience myself as a female against males.
    Gabby said she’s feeling much better in the beginning, but you can tell she’s battling or fearing in her mind considering her career. With that in mind also, you can tell Tom’s approach triggered her.
    Me, myself, being in a confused state right now, I know it when others are feeling the same as me like Gabby. Funny thing is, spiritually speaking, now is the time of confusion as the stars show lol
    Anyway, I enjoyed this episode. I liked how both were able to disagree like close friends do. For this level of entrepreneurship, self development field, it’s rare to see it online nowadays so the contrast was very interesting for me. It also highlighted what we don’t usually think about like definitions etc. Thank you for the episode.

    This was pretty interesting to watch and though there are comments about Tom and Gabby having a exhausting conversation about the definition of "patience", I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing to watch because it really shows you the interactions of two perspectives: science and spirituality ... and how they tend to misunderstand one another because of the language that's used. I have dipped my feet into the spiritual aspect of things and the more rational and logical side of things, and notice a lot of similarities, just a different language and if you watch a lot of other spiritual guru's on Tom's show, he doesn't quite understand it because of the jargon. So Gabby is right when they are interpreting things differently, they actually use language differently...not perspectives. When you watch them talk, it's almost like on a tangent of the same topic but they aren't really getting one another. If Gabby were to explain her idea in the sense that you have to have patience to keep the big picture in mind, that nothing happens overnight, things are a process and that you shouldn't rush everything to make everything happen...That it takes energy and "patience" to do things the right way or spend time figuring out a more efficient way of doing things. This is grinding still, but in a slower, methodical, thoughtful, present way versus trying to do everything as fast as you can because you want the result so bad (result-focused vs. process-focused). I'm sure Tom would agree that sheer drive is not efficient if you're using the momentum going the wrong way. It's just crazy how important it is to understand each side's language when communicating with one another, and I hope one day the two perspectives are able to understand each other better.
