- In this video, I talk about my “icks” or pet peeves when it comes to digital art. For example:
-Corporate art style
-Only shading with black
-The “ugly” state of the drawing process
Now, there’s tons more, but you have to watch the video to find out! 😉

bro the airbrush ick immediately gave me ptsd, and then the 'shading w/ black' just finished the blow 💀
😂😂😂 I thought it might his close to home for a lot of people
@@honeypotstudios it happened too the best of us 🫡
The only thing i disagree (partly) with is the brushes haha I love to play with new brushes, of course they themselves don't make your art better or worse, but they can be a breath of fresh air and kind of get you out of your comfort zone!
That’s true! I just got Clip Studio last night and spent an hour playing with the lace brushes 😅😅😅
@@honeypotstudios Clip studio is a lot of fun! I ended up switching to it from procreate late last year! The transform tool also doesn't ruin the quality of the lines as badly as procreate does(I've hardly noticed it in CSP), but I also still try not to transform tool the lineart, and save it for the sketch layers if needed lol
You should keep your visuals on screen for longer, I had to pause the video at 0:39 so I could see your comparison- I really like how your visuals look btw they're so pretty omg you have an amazing aesthetic
I think you’re right! I’ll keep that in mind for next video. Thank you for the advice 😄
1:20 I feel you so much, I use Medibang and I think I’m gonna switch over soon, I have to save every time I do one small thing because it will crash and it has no auto save and It’s so annoying! I’ve had to redraw two hours of progress before, and basically start over everything. The only reason I haven’t switched is because I’m too lazy to figure out how to use a different one-
I love Medibang and prefer the interface 10 to 1 when it comes to procreate. The only reason I switched was, like I said, because of the constant crashing. It feels different and odd when you first switch, but it’s not that bad. Especially since you won’t lose hours of progress again! If you’re wanting to switch to a different software, but don’t want to pay that much for procreate, I recommend ibis paint. It has ads like Medibang, but it doesn’t crash. Well, if it does, I haven’t seen it do it. 😅
The level of truth in that "drawing backgrounds" ick😂 I felt that😌
Btw: the layer limit in Procreate is based on your iPad model and its amount of RAM. Procreate devs decided to limit that in order to keep the program running smoothly and minimize crashes. I appreciate their concern, but I agree it's frustrating af for artists working at high DPIs or canvas sizes😅
If you're already using a Pro model (those have the highest RAM), I've heard other artists say to try copying the entire canvas at one point and pasting it into a new file as a single layer. Don't delete the original Procreate file because you can use it as a backup.
So, for instance, if you're at the point where flat colors are how you want them and you've done basic shadows and highlights but maybe not overpaint or special effects, go to the menu and select "copy canvas" (make sure only those layers you want are visible; turn off others), then start a new Procreate file and select "paste" from the menu.
It pastes whatever layers were visible from the first file's canvas as a single layer in the new file, so now you have access to more layers to do finishing touches that require multiple layers. I never delete the previous file since it can be used as a backup, but once you're happy with the new file/finished with the piece, feel free to delete any WIP files where you did the "copy canvas."
Hope this makes sense! 😅 If not, search RUclips for "saving layers in Procreate" and I think someone will have a video showing this in practice. I can't recall exactly who I saw doing this, but it was here on RUclips.
This makes perfect sense! Thank you so much for the clarification. Also, I’m gonna have to try that! 🤯
i adore your voice! great video too :)
Awee thank you!❤️😊
I really like your content! Love your aesthetic
Thank ya ❤️😊
Subed love your art and your voice I love listening to this stuff while drawing
Awe thank you so much! I’m glad you’re here so we can draw together 😃
Oh my God. I have been playing around with a ton of brushes wondering why they all look bad and pixelated for me, but amazing when others use it. Now I realize that it's my canvas size making them look bad... Thank you so much for pointing this out!!
Glad I could help! And yeah, that’s a really common mistake. Most default canvases are wayyyy too small. I suggest making a custom canvas size and skip the Default ones. Also make sure the DPI is 350. That way if you ever print your art it won’t look pixelated. 72 DPI is okay to use if you never intend on printing it, though!
Love the vids
You love the videos, but I love you ❤️
Your voice was very soothing to listen to as wel as relating to a ton of these 🥹
A lot of people say that about my voice, but it’s use to be my biggest insecurity. I just thought I sounded like a hill billy 😅 It makes me really happy though! And for that I thank you 😊
@@honeypotstudios why would people say that?? That’s rude of them. But yeah, of course! No worries :)
Memes go funny I love them!!💕
Haha thank you!
my biggest ick is when my pencil gets oily. this isnt a problem with any company, rather me having oily skin 💀it triggers some sort of primal rage I have.
OH MY GOODNESS SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE?!?!?
@@honeypotstudios OMG I GUESS NOT?!??! BAHAHHAAA
I personally don't see a benefit when i flip my canvas nothing really looks different in my brain
That’s a sign that your proportions are good! I have a lot of respect for artists who can get them right the first try without flipping their canvas 🤯
The ridiculous thing is that there is an animation in one of the default arts that comes with procreate THAT OVERSTEPS THE LAYER LIMIT!!! it’s so confuzzling and I sat with the settings for you to an hour wondering how on earth this is possible. But anyway if you go to the wrench icon there should be something called animation assist that will allow you to add more layers I think
Omg really?!?! I have to go check this out! Thank ya for the advice 😄
@@honeypotstudios of coarse! It’s under canvas in the little wrench menu
personally, I feel you should do the eyes first so you dont get this close to cyclops looking thing-
Hmm?
yoo! great video and I wanted to ask where did you get that dot circle comic brush from?? i’ve been trying to find one 😭
I made it! I sell a bunch of screentone brushes like that on my Gumroad. 😅
@@honeypotstudios thanks so much!! I’ll be sure to check it out!
I kind of messed with the settings on the dot brush to make it work, personally
subbbb i love your content!!!
Thank you so much 😄
Do not know that background artist exist? Like seriously that was rude to say that they are lying to themselves.
It was only a joke. I didn’t mean to offend anyone with it. If I offended you, I’m really sorry. It wasn’t my intention.
