It wasn’t an art class but damn it crushed me. I had been practicing art for years and would admire pieces that I felt turned out really well. I had wanted art to be my career and I was proud of my self because I was able to pick classes in high school that would get me into art school or good art programs. I went to math class on a day where my art ideas were filling my head and I was so excited to go home and per-sue them. My math teacher had told the entire class that people who worked in entertainment or comfort would only fail at life and that it was much better if we just took up a real job. I was absolutely devastated and it led me to focus on engineering, something I barely love as much as art.
I feel like our time it is easier than ever to actually make money doing something you love, but people just believe it’s still impossible since it kinda was when they were our age. 🤔🤔🤔
You’re an incredibly talented digital artist! I really think that art teacher should have been fired for his terrible treatment of his students! I had people tell me that I wouldn’t amount to anything either. Only really terrible people tell small children they "won't amount to anything," like would YOU ever say something so horrible to a child? There's something wrong with them, NOT you. I'm so sorry you felt so horrible. I have had a bad time in art class too so I decided to be self taught and I couldn't be happier, in terms of my art progress anyway! Really great Sailor Moon drawing by the way.
Awee thank you so much! And I agree with you totally. Like, why would someone ever feel the need to say that to a kid?!?! What does saying that accomplish? It’s not like the kid is going to be like, “you know what? You’re right. Pursuing an art career isn’t the most stable job I could wish for, so I’ll stop drawing and fill that time studying to be a doctor or layer.” NO! They’re just gonna be heart broken!!! It’s so messed up!
I was in a similar situation but with photography class, however the teacher was more chill and as an person who was shy it worked out for me, I would do my work quickly and then I would just draw on my phone, I would also draw war/historical stuff cause I love history and the Millitary.
I think I’ve came to a realization that teachers have a huge impact on you. Good or bad. Do you think that’s the same with your photography teacher? Also, I think it’s cool you had a photography class!
I had a history teacher who told me not to be an artist because I wasn’t good enough (I was 13). 7 years later and I am one and I couldn’t be happier. In junior year of high school, I ended up getting into an art class but it was for beginners. My skill was good enough at the time that I didn’t need to do a bunch of still lives of inanimate objects. My teacher decided to pull me and two other students aside to teach us separately. He had us drawing each other in charcoal, using watercolor, or drawing architecture. He actually drew me in charcoal for an example and I still have the drawing to this day. In the end though, I ended up dropping out halfway through that school year because I was in and out of the hospital and failing all of my classes because of it. Then there was a period of time from around 17-19 where I wasn’t improving as fast as I wanted to so I just quit drawing. I ended up getting the motivation back when I looked at the drawing that art teacher made of me and him telling me to just go for being an artist if I want to. Nowadays I’m making somewhat of a living off my art through other d&d nerds wanting their characters drawn so shove it, middle school history teacher and thank you high school art teacher.
Reminds me how much step grandma who does art for a living mind you, told me I couldn't make a living off my art and I was better off in retail. Damn this hit hard. She squished my dreams as a thirteen year old and now that I'm late 20s I'm getting back into drawing.
It’s truly crazy how people are so quick to dismiss someone’s dreams of becoming an artist or heck becoming whatever they want. I get they are looking out for you in their own way and want you to succeed. BUT if other people are artists and succeed at that as their career then why can’t you? Just know that I fully believe in you and will root for you!!! (I really sorry for never replying I’ve gotten really busy trying to figure out life and what I want to do with myself. So, I took a step back from social media. But because I’ve been doing that this comment really hits home for me. I wish you the best and I’m rooting for you to become an amazing artist❤️)
@@honeypotstudios Bless you peaches, I appreciate the reply back. Thank you ever so much for the well wishes, it means alot to hear that from another artist. I do hope things are going better for you! I went on a Art hiatus myself for a few, but I'm following my own path and telling her to bite me if she wants to try and rip me up again. Recently I've aquired a boyfriend who's been such a wonderful lil cheerleader that I've inspired him to get a drawing tablet and continue where he left off in high school.
I had a teacher like that back in high school, she was awful. I was stuck in sp.ed and I hated every single class, my art teacher was pissed when I was told that Anime, Sci-Fi and illustrations I did for Redwall were worthless. He was actually the one who called my grade level principal who degraded my art, I was laughing later when I told that woman that I will be an author and artist
Teachers like that are so bad! They really suck the live out of the students, and that so sad. Sad because a teacher can have such a big influence on a kid!
my current art teacher is very cool, she shows us an artstyle and tell us to make something using it ( with a few rules ofc). i enjoy complete creative freedom, but the art projects wasnt the cool part. she just straight up lets us have a different art style but realistic (she just pushes us to get as much details as possible) i love the class man.
My art teacher was similar. not as bad luckily I feel for you .but definitely similar...my teacher would get pissed I couldn't do Realism. I've always had a cartoon-like style. And she pushed me to try to do realism but when id get close it was still cartoony to her. I would get so sad in that class. The worse thing was even though she hated the cartoony anime style. She likes to draw a girl in class made for me who was an anime artist it's all she ever drew... The worse part is they were all traced by Google. She even won a prize for one of her traced drawings. And my teacher was so proud she bought her Copic markers. To say I was pissed because I got second place for a traced drawing we showed the teacher traced she somehow didn't believe us. I never once saw her actually draw in class she go home and bring back line art to trace over with a pen so she looked good. Now I will say she did know how to use colored pencils the way she colored and shared was beautiful. But honestly, that was the only thing good about that girl. But back to my teacher. The whole time I was in school I was in her class. So all for the year she only told me two pieces were good and one was for the scratch thing you have to paint over apparently I was a Picasso with crayons lol. But yeah she was a horrible teacher and I did enjoy her class and kept A’s. I definitely had the will to prove her wrong classes she had said I wouldn't be able to make art my career. But now I'm a free lance so lol take that I guess 😂
Sounds like a bad teacher, but holy crap the tracing girl?!?! That’s insane! I’m an advocate that tracing can be used as a way to learn but she abused it! And honestly doing it like that was doing a disservice to her as well. She never actually learned how to draw by tracing, you know?
This honestly breaks my heart- bad teachers can do so much damage!
They really can!

@@honeypotstudios 100%. Something wrong with that person fr. Also messed up for the school to do nothing about it
love to see fellow small creators and love your art! hate that these things hold our potential back so much!
Awe it’s fine! I’m happy with the people I have now 😌 but you said you were a small creator too? I’ll go check ya out 😄

Funny school stories are always the best had me rofl
I need to make more story times, but of stories that aren’t art related. Maybe some of band, or if that lady who I thought died at subway. 🤔🤔

I really love your story🥹❤️ But, Isn’t is crazy how much of an impact teachers have? They can literally make or break your life’s trajectory
