Coach Nurse has such an inspiring journey. A real basketball genius who's not affraid to think outside the box and try new things
outside the box and one you mean haha
@@henryhall298 10/10 👏
@@henryhall298 lmaooo good one man😂🤣😭
@Henry Hall haha Good One!!
lol, Nurse is so overrated. The only reason Raptors won was because they got lucky and Warriors were injured.
That’s my coach right there! Probably the most innovative coach in the League. Low key, a lot of teams copy his philosophies & defensive schemes. He brought a Chip to the city! He’s certified in Toronto forever
100%
Especially how teams are guarding curry now, nobody ever thought of these schemes
The way he played chess with Brad Stevens in a lot Boston Toronto games was amazing. I’m a fan ever since
🔥
@@futurefoundation8559 one of favorite series, loved the thinking basketball analysis
As a basketball fan, I just love listening to an intelligent respected basketball coach talk.
As a hardcore bball fan it feels like the player interview can get redundant at times so I think it's nice to get these long form convos...we don't get many from coaches.
As a brit, it's great to hear Nick talking about the BBL.
That’s the only reason why I clicked on this 😂
Didn’t know Nick likes butt lifts that’s dope
@@shaqgreen3167 💀💀💀
He always talks about his stint in the bbl
Seven Hunnid on RUclips is wildly entertaining cuh ☝️
So excited for this series. Hope Spo is one of the next ones. Monty Williams, Becky Hammond, Brad Stevens and Quinn Snyder would also be great down the line
Becky Hammon nowhere near the dudes you just named with all due respect
@@dorbendavid6395 of course, but she’s still a coach and with her WNBA history, becoming a disciple under popovich and now being a top candidate whenever teams are looking for a new HC, I think it’d be a great pod
@@dorbendavid6395 you are saying that based on?
@@futurehofer1564 based on that they are the top coaches in the league and she can't even make it to the league so she bailed to the WNBA
these are all great suggestions
Finally an active NBA Coach on the pod.
Coach Pop and Spo are on my list.
Pop and Spo would be unreal!!!
Bro round table with Spo, Pop, Kerr and Nurse!
Coach Snyder top 3 coaches to interview after this one. Spo pop and Snyder.
@@shadow_realm47 that would be so interesting! I wonder how forthcoming they would be given they're still actively coaching lol
@@shadow_realm47 Monty too
Coach Nurse & Frank Vogel tell such amazing stories on how they knew they had talent but not NBA talent and took the coaching route to win a NBA Chip! Thanks JJ!
Facts, nick nurse mightve not been the best player but he does know basketball
@@alfmar95 LOL. That IS a fact.
Still remember Nick from his days as my local basketball team HC (Birmingham Bullets) was so crazy seeing him win a chip in the NBA
Perfect guest for this pod and maybe Dunc's too
Great guy to kick off the Coaching Series with!!
Nick Nurse, not only a great basketball coach, but an even better person.
And multi-talented as well, he's pretty sick on the guitar.
NN, a renaissance man!
He good at guitar too !
As a lifelong Raptors fan, I'm glad we have NN, he's a creative genius.
They actually got a coach on here? This is really the greatest basketball content on the internet. Goats
The mad scientist
So glad you asked him about his time in England. There's plenty of us over here proud that an NBA Champ cut his coaching teeth on our patch
NN seems like such a great guy on top of being one of the best coaches around. Its easy to understand why his players play so hard for him. Cant wait to see Barnes evolve under his guidance
He's international experience changed him for the best! No better school than traveling, not for vacation but real long traveling!
Coach Nurse has a great mind definitely seen it through his years so far in Toronto
JJ Redick is quickly becoming my favorite go to for all things NBA. This podcast is, as my kids would say, FIRE.
Great interview!! I hope my Raptors never let go of coach Nick, he's already done so much great things for the franchise. That being said, I would love to see Hubie Brown on the pod! One of the most fascinating guy in the game!
GIVE HIM A LIFETIME CONTRACT
Hubie Brown would be amazing!
Yes ...the casual fans don't get his thing ...he has his style and don't care what people think look how many teams are using "janky defenses" now since he started using things like the box and 1 ...he got so much heat for that at the time but now loads of teams use it...he isn't going let the media and talking heads bully him into changing
One of the reasons I love being a Raptors fan. I know that the coach, players, and FO are all about WINNING. We tanked last year and ended up getting another WINNER Scottie Barnes🙏 I believe that the Raptors will be back soon
raptors are so blessed with havin masai. biggest lottery win for the raptors right there havin masai on ur side
3 mins in and im already cracking '' i gave myself the greenlight '' hilarious
Nick Nurse outside of the box mentality is everything
how did he play box and 1 then?
@@DS-me7kk touche LOL
@@DS-me7kk Sometimes you just need an outside look of the box to know that you need to use the box
I loved this. I loved how you guys didn’t really ask questions like what’s it like to coach so and so. Topics were focused on the coach rather than how he coached any particular player. Also love coach NN.
Great to hear his BBL coaching journey. I am currently working with the London Lions as an athletic therapist looking to get to the NBA. If anyone has any tips or potential placements with a team please let me know 😀
It will happen for you
Try Spain and euro league to get more exposure then BBL
Get an agent to find you one. Or a laywer
Another great episode JJ! Getting a look inside the game like this is awesome 👏🏼
One of my favorite episodes so far, really looking forward to this coaching series!
Went to the Nick Nurse basketball camp in Iowa growing up. It was a great camp that really started my love for basketball. I will always remember the basketball that I bought at the camp, it was red white and blue and it said “The Pill” on it. So excited to listen to this pod!
Nick Nurse is brilliant. I love how he doesn't hold back based on what humans 'normally' do or what is accepted as norm.
I wanna hear Tyronn Lue on this. Lue is one of the best coaches at making in game adjustments, look at how he did in the 2016 finals
Maybe, but I think he’s way better suited as an assistant. He’s beta.
One of my favorite episode's of Gilbert Arenas's podcast was when he brought his high school coach on. I don't know if you had an influential coach from your youth JJ, but if you did, having a conversation with them would be interesting. Hearing how he coached you and how he coaches kids in general is always useful information. The high school skill level is definitely closer to what most casuals can relate to in our day to day lives lol
Thanks for the ring, Coach Nurse!
Best and coolest coach in the league.
Great episode JJ... It's been something to watch Nick work first hand!
Wow. The craziest part of this to me is around the 17:30 mark - just hearing the perspective of an NBA player trying to beat a defense and score vs a coach who has spent time learning all of that players tendencies and moves gameplanning to stop him. Great interview, Nurse seems like a cool guy and great coach
The man who ran the box and one on steph and wall on Giannis. Whatever it takes!
Wow. Great story. Talk about sticking to your passion and just making it work. Inspiring.
Bro yes I'd love to see more coaches on here. This is awesome they are such a huge part of the story
Great interview loved his response on player development and helping his players individually I hope all coaches are doing this
I really appreciate this interview and how it was organic and honest.
Great interview. I wish it could have been an hour or 2 longer. Would love to see Nick Nurse back.
I love the diversity of perspective and personnel this pod offers. JJ, you should consider having a referee too soon!
Nick nurse is such an inspiration and likeable guy. Man worked so hard to get where he is and is humble and a good person.
Ong I so happy yall talked about the 2020 it's was amazing we rlly should've made it to the next round. That Celtics series hlgoing 7 games rlly showed how close it was while our best player was little off beat.
The 2020 team was my fav. That game 6 Lowry game was cray
Great guy, great coach. Excellent interview guys.
This series is about to be heat - definitely need to see you guys talk being a young coach with Silas from the Rockets
Best coach in the NBA. Head coach of the canada national team as well. Proud canadian here
I used to talk to Nick about ball in Sheffield at the Sharks games, absolutely lovely man was fantastic to watch his success.
Nurse is a creative genius. Love him.
Would love for you guys to continue this coaching series with assistant coaches, trainers and advisors to teams too.
Lol @JJ Redick face at The Shot convo and double LOL at Tommy looking back at him.
Great pod thank you for this!
Great interview, very down to Earth, he has been around the world and through a lot, one of the brightest coaches of the league, that's for sure.
as a British NBA fan, with Nick Nurse and OG and Masai on that team, I don't know how I'm not a Raptors fan.
You need to become a Raptors fan. Those 3 are my favorites
@@tyrell1984 sadly I'm a fan of the Sixers already and we lost in the playoffs on that insane buzzer beater. I still like OG, Kawhi though and respect Nick Nurse, he's a top 2 coach in the NBA
So F AWESOMEEEEE! Cant wait for more from Coaching Series!!!
Nick is super fun! I am happy he won with Toronto!
Nick is refreshing after all the ego driven conversations. I like this guy and the bigger picture he lives in and paints for us. Really looking forward to the rest of this series. Thanks for this
everyone laughed and mocked him for going box and 1, and now it's more common among teams. great innovator.
He literally brought it into the NBA. They now have highlights/ closeups that show the box and one on the corner of the screen during games! He's an incredible innovator. Hall of Famer.
Anyone who is British and is a basketball fan, should feel honoured that he got to play and coach in the bbl
Geno has got to be a part of this coaching series. Also it would be awesome to see Jay Wright and Steve Kerr.
Players respect real. Nurse knows he paid his dues and is comfortable in his own skin. He also knows the game inside and out. The Raptors are lucky to have him. Great interview.
What a great cast JJ! One of your best for sure.
This pod is amazing 🔥🔥🔥
You guys got the best interviews in the nba 👏 seriously keep this going pls
Funny how they mention Casey's firing and how wild it is that he got coach of the year and was fired in that off season. You would think it was longer after, but it was just a couple months after receiving one of the highest awards as a coach.
it's cause of their performance in the playoffs. casey did well in the season but didn't make any adjustments when they were getting beat by the cavs
Love Casey hiring Nurse was the best decision by Masai
Fun fact: Its no coincidence that that it was that year that Masai forced Casey to give Nurse complete control over the team offense. And the main reason he won was because of us being a top offensive threat that year.
He's a coach I'd wanna play for, just knows the game, has a passion for it and very open minded.
When he went Bx in 1 on Steph in the Finals and had the rookie FVF Chase him the whole game. Something so basic to disrupt him can show how the game nowadays can be overthinking at times.
i think FVV was a sophmore or maybe 3rd year during the finals run
@@hotdogboxd yeah he wasnt a rookie!
Defensive Genius, the Raptors are lucky to have him. One of the best for sure.
Yesssir diggin this podcast more now thinking outside the box n One LOL happy new year fellas😁🤘🏽
Great, great episode! Nurse is so intelligent, engaging and easy to root for! Is there still going to be a Jordan Poole Episode? I thought that was floated out there!
As a regular listener from london it was really cool to hear nurse story. I wish they said the scores of those duke vs london games though 😂
You can tell coach nurse is a really good coach. He develops and he can coach any player up to fit the system
AWESOME INTERVIEW ‼️💯
New respect for Nick Nurse
amazing episode thanks guys !
Think this man is an absolute genius!! Probably my favorite coach in the league
Great interview! Also just realized I have the same shoes Tommy's wearing here lol
Please interview Cori Close! She’s an incredible leader and hearing her prep and support her players makes me want to lace ‘‘em up again! An unbelievable motivator!
WOW! This is Big....To get an Active NBA Championship Coach on ur Podcast!
love this series. recos/requests: Pop, Spo, Doc, Billups
Awesome interview. For those that are interested Nick's got a book out called "Rapture" which takes you through much of what he talked about today. Foreword written by the one and only Phil Jackson. Great story about how Phil was a mentor to Nick.
Loved this episode thanks boys
i really enjoyed the converstation , it would be interesting to hear what JJ thinks about how NN explained what he thinks is a good coach ( or what a good coach does ) , his eyes kind alighted up a bit while listening to the answere.
One hell of a coach right there
If Nick Nurse has an audio book I need Ime Udoka to have it on repeat for the next 3 months. I really got envious of how the Raptors have drafted and developed players over the years. They really find gems in the rough and make everyone useful on offense. I give Ime a mulligan on account of his first year. But damn do I wish he could reach this team.
Nick nurse is a legend!
Great interview, awesome series.
Of course Pop or Thibs would be nice too :)
Nick Nurse is a Toronto manz. Respect General 🙏🏾
Hey guys, love the show and the coach series idea. I miss your drafts and the competitive banner around them. It was fun to learn your preferences and those of the guests that way. No matter how hard you are on each other, who "wins" or who "loses", we all win when we learn more about each other. So bring back the drafts! BTW...Sixers fan for life. Let's get Ben outta here and get some help!
Another great convo! Love this series. Would love to hear Becky Hammon, Dawn Staley, and/or some of the other prolific coaches who are women in the series. Cheers yall!
Absolutely amazing podcast episode, I would have asked him something like what is it like to coach a top 5 superstar player in Kawhi? Thanks anyways
My life goal is to be a college basketball coach. This is amazingly helpful appreciate you guys
Great discussion! Love it.
AH AH JJ UR A REAL ONE FOR HAVING COACH NURSE MAN. That mans defensive schemes for coaching are next to none.
Great coach. we like Nick Nurse
Would have been hilarious to get a segment in with Nick on his exasperated facial expressions during games.
Some info: NN’s book Rapture is a really good basketball read! Highly recommended.
THIS IS A GREAT SERIES!!!!
Man i would really love a popovic episode, man the stories he must have from coaching David Robinson to dejounte murray now
Great episode. You should have some more GMs on the pod too.
Fred Hoiberg plz. You've had a lot of ISU guys on and there are some parallels from Fred's to JJ's games and from what I can tell, mindset. Would be a great interview
