Haven't heard much from Kryzweski so really appreciated this conversation. Learnt a lot about his character and why he is so successful. He is an empathetic, compassionate, self aware, hard working individual and I see the character of a lot of players that have come through his system. One of my favourites so far! Listening in from New Zealand! 🇳🇿

To be honest, I have just listened to this around a week (or more) since uploaded. I thought: “Come on, get another players.” Turned out this has tons of wisdoms, and one of the best of your episode so far. Very emotional, touching, and inspiration.
this was my favorite podcast so far. Coach K is one of the most interesting people to hear talk and tell stories. His experience and wisdom is second to none on a lot of the topics discussed here. Great Job JJ.

Great interview-I especially love what he did for this years team-imagining them winning a title,& giving them closure-just brilliant. And JJ, no you didn't win it all. But not many get to play in a Final 4-amazing accomplishment to be proud of.

This is the best pod you’ve done, the wisdom his willingness to help others the kindness. Seems like a remarkable man and the best thing about it is the lessons and stories he told anyone can take something away from it whether you love basketball or not.

Not a Duke fan but this is one of the BEST interviews. Lots of nuggets given, respect to the program and both coach and JJ here. Legit great content here especially around 46 min mark now in coaching myself…The info about learning to adapt.
Watch Coach K`s Hall of Fame speech. It is one of the best..
..and yes, everything changed in 92`. No other basketball team ever had that impact globaly. And the frontrunner was MJ. Basketball becam global after 92`. I was 16 years old at the time, a german kid in a football (=soccer;-)) country, already playing basketball for 4 years. Our membership numbers at my local club tribled within 1 months after the Olympics. MJ was our new hero, NBA games were broadcasted live for the first time. I saw every single finals game live from 92 till 98` (at 3am in the morning). Then MJ retired, Pip left the Bulls. And a kid named Dirk was drafted by the Mavs. Fantastic times..
Detlef Schrempf was a heck of a player too.
Culture wins games, tradition doesn’t. I really think this sums up Duke basketball. Fantastic interview. I respect when an interviewer knows when to speak vs listen. I think this also shows the respect JJ has for Coach K.

I’m not surprised by anything coach K said. I have his book and it’s jammed packed with so much wisdom and inspirational words. He’s awesome at getting the very best out of people, not just his players.

@@rjdriver88 NBA defenses didn't switch as much in '13 so it was easier to hide your defensive liabilities back then. With that said, Ray was a better defender than JJ even late into his career, was also a bit taller and had more championship experience playing in a great defensive system with Boston.

Coached MJ, Bron, Kobe, and coaching Duke University what an incredible journey.
As someone who struggles to stay in the moment and with my mental health Coach K's quote about staying in the moment "how it used to be it was, how it used to be is not the way it is, forget about how it will be that will take care of itself if you take care of how it is, you have to embrace the moment" is super impactful outside of the maybe microscope'd perspective he may have been thinking about it in.
Shout out to Chris Carrawell one of the underappreciated Duke greats.

I’m an Arizona fan and I thoroughly enjoy this channel/JJ/basketball IQ/relatability etc. I have a new found appreciation for Duke basketball and Coach K. Thank you for bringing me back down to planet earth and giving us insight into your relationships and personalities. Now my kids have helped bring me back to reality and they and my wife and God deserve most the credit. But this is the cherry and I’m thankful for these interviews. I have a dog named pickles because of the sweet sixteen victory we had over your blue devils 11 years ago but that’s another story. God bless!

Too many ads on this episode but if it's one thing I picked up from this, it was the discussion of building traditions vs. a culture. That part really resonated with me, especially when it gets to one leaving a legacy in their respective field. I think that was a great discussion and ending to this podcast.

JJ - on the practice/workout videos - Coach is right. Kids seeing your workout is way more impactful than you trying to teach. Kids (people) are bad listeners, but great imitators and one-uppers.

The first year I watched college basketball was that year jj Reddick and Adam Morrison went bananas battling for the player of the year that year it was those 2 then everyone else way behind em. He was so good at Duke go look it up kids
