Aussie music is not so much a rabbit hole as a gold mine. The main act you have not yet found is Cold Chisel. Please react to "Khe Sanh" on April 24. It will be 25 April here and that's our veterans day. The song is about the PTSD that Vietnam veterans suffer. Lyric video would be best for you. Much love and respect from Australia 🇭🇲
Agree. The whole "Man Of Colours" album is a gem! My favorite is "Girl In The Moon" but there is not a bad song on it and it is an album I have never gotten tired of listening to. Also love the voice of Iva Davies.
Crowded House is another great Aussie/New Zealand band. You've done "Don't Dream It's Over" but they have a bunch more songs: "Something So Strong" "Better Be Home Soon" "Fall At Your Feet" "Private Universe" "World Where You Live" "Weather With You"
You know whats funny, growing up here in South Africa my parents and their friends used to play that song like it was referring to South Africa, I only found out when I was older it was referring to Australia
Icehouse's "Great Southern Land" is one of Australia's unofficial anthems. While Electric Blue is one of our drunken karaoke anthems. Certainly check out Icehouse's opus "Man of Colours". Either the original, or the much more recent live version with Michael Paynter. Spine tingling Nor can i forget my favourite Icehouse songs "Dusty Pages", "Stay Close Tonight" (killer fretless bass in that one), "Hey Little Girl", and "Love in Motion" All New Wave bliss
Hi Jay & Amber, Thank you for checking out more of Icehouse. They are my favourite band. You have put a smile on my face this morning. More Icehouse songs: Great Southern Land (with images of Australian nature), Street Cafe, Crazy, Nothing Too Serious, My Kingdom ... there is heaps for you to explore! Other Aussie songs to check out: Divynals - Boys in Town, Pleasure and Pain Noiseworks - Take Me Back, No Lies Cold Chisel - Khe Sanh, Bow River Jimmy Barnes - Working Class Man, Lay Down Your Guns Hope you have a great evening.
in Australia is Jimmy Barnes has more #1 albums (15) than any other artist, Inc The Beatles (14) AC/DC and INXS. Add in the albums he had with Cold Chisel and you add another 4 to that list. you NEED to check out Jimmy and Cold Chisel!
I would say the talking Australian anthem, "Khe Sanh" - by Cold Chisel. Frontman Jimmy Barnes is Australian rock royalty. Another just thought of "Amazing" by Alex Lloyd.
WHOA! I LOVE THIS SONG. To me, it's so romantic, moody, atmospheric, and oh so cool. And the way that Iva Davies sings this song has *everything* to do with that! Plus he has the most perfect mullet the 80's ever produced. 🥰 Love, love, love this song! ❤️🔥
THE CHURCH: under the milky way, reptile, aura, ripple, metropolis... DEAD CAN DANCE: desert song, rakim, the wind that shakes the barley (all live from the Toward The Within CD/DVD available on one video platform) - this will transport you to another time and place, hence Lisa Gerrard being asked by Hans Zimmer to join him in writing the Gladiator score. The Church (under the milky way) were featured on the Donny Darko soundtrack along with Echo and the Bunnymen (killing moon), Joy Division (love will tear us apart) and Tears for Fears (mad world, head over heels), Duran Duran (notoriious)
Divinyls only ever seem to get referenced these days via the track 'I Touch Myself' but tracks such as 'If Love Was A Gun' and 'I'm On Your Side' (both from their 1991 album, 'Divinyls' are absolute gems.
I think anyone who knows music knows that The BeeGees are not Australian as for Crowded House they were formed in Aussie only after NZs greatest band Split Enz broke up.
Icehouse are legends in this country, and Icehouse is really Iva Davies. So many brilliant songs from this amazing songwriter and musician. I’ve seen them a few times, the last one was in Victoria Australia in January 2023, still brilliant!! One of my favourite bands of all time!! And from memory, the amazing Guy Pratt (of Pink Floyd fame) is on bass as he lived here for a while and played with Icehouse.
Icehouse was Guy Pratt's first big break. I think he arrived just after Love in Motion, but left for Pink Floyd before Man of Colours. He did great bass lines for the band.
They have been one of my favorites from the 80s. Own everything they ever released. Would love to see them but they don't seem to get out of Australia anymore.
Dreamy song. Try "Great Southern Land." Do the the version with all the Australian images. Very iconic! You will love it! Iva Davies is the lead singer and he very iconic in Australia. Multi talented song writer/musician who has also written ballets and musical scores (Master and Commander)!
Their biggest hit was probably Great Southern Land. As an Aussie I can't believe you've never done any COLD CHISEL or their frontman JIMMY BARNES as a solo artist. Ask any Aussie over 40 who the most iconic Aussie band is and the majority are likely to say Cold Chisel. Check out WHEN THE WAR IS OVER (Live version), KHE SAHN (about the vietnam war), CHOIR GIRL or WHEN YOUR LOVE HAS GONE (live) by Jimmy Barnes. Jimmy Barnes also had a big duet hit with JOHNNY FARNHAM called WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY. Jimmy has an incredibly soulful voice.
Aussie Bands - Hoodoo Gurus, 1927, Southern Sons, Crowed House, Australian Crawl, Mondo Rock, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, The Angels, The Living End, Powderfinger, Silverchair, Wolfmother, Air Supply, Jet, The Black Sorrows, The Easybeats, Skyhooks, INXS, accadacca and on and on!
Naked Eyes were really talented with great pop senses. A very underrated new wave band. That Duo were in a band with Tears for Fears duo Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith called "Neon", which immediately preceded Naked eyes and Tears for Fears
An Aussie great you’ve missed is Jimmy Barnes, he’s one of our best ever. I’d suggest starting with “Stone Cold” Jimmy Barnes ft Joe Bonamassa, it’s very bluesy with guitar solos that are mind blowing. Also please react to John Farnham and Olivia Newton John performing “please don’t ask me” live with an orchestra it’s one of the best duets you’ll ever hear.
More John Farnham live, Jimmy Barnes, and some fab 80s Moving Pictures (What about me), Goanna (Solid Rock), Kids in the Kitchen, Marcia Hines, Angels, Guy Sebastian
One of my favorites from Icehouse, legendary 80's band from Down Under. 'Crazy' is another good one from them and 'Hey, Little Girl ', both were hits in those days.
I grew up on a diet of Australian band and Icehouse are one of my favourites. So many great songs. Another great Australian band you haven't tried is The Angels (Known in the States as Angel City). If I had to describe them - try AC/DC with a small amount of punk vibe in them. I Love them to bits. Check out the song Fashion and Fame.
Icehouse has a heap of great songs. I think you guys would love Crazy by them. Before they were Icehouse, they were called Flowers. We can get together is another good one from them. If you are talking Aussie bands, you need to listen to Cold Chisel. Try Bow River live from Ringside, or When the war is over from the same concert. They have two lead singers, one of which is Jimmy Barnes, who i'm sure you have heard before but they are legendary in Australia. They started in the early 70s and were still performing in the 2020s.
Aussie band that was there answer to the beatles was Easybeats "Friday On My Mind" 60s .Lead Guitarist is older brother of Angus of AC/DC. "No Promises great song.
If you haven't already, check out 'We Can Get Together''.by these guys ( produced under their original band name, Flowers, from their album titled Icehouse). They changed their name shortly after the release of that album. It's a great tune.
Soo gooood! Thanks for getting around to this one. For Icehouse, its Great Southern Land, next. Other Aussie bands you could react to are Mental as Anything and their song Live It Up which you might have heard while watching Crocodile Dundee, or the Models' Out of Mind Out of Sight which is just a high energy song. If you do Midnight Oil steer clear of anything off Diesel and Dust. I'd suggest Somebody is Trying to Tell Me Something, or Best of Both Worlds. There's more like Hunters and Collectors "Throw Your Arms Around Me", Hoodoo Gurus" I Want You Back", or the Birthday Party's " Mr. Clarinet
Great Southern Land is an iconic Aussie Anthem, and a great Icehouse song. I first discovered them when they were called Flowers, but there was already a band with that name. Their first album is still listed under the 'Flowers' name, but the album was called Icehouse (released in 1980), so they took that name. That song is also the one that sold me on them (I'm from New Zealand, so a close neighbour) and I still play that album, Some REALLY good songs, including 'We can get together' and 'Can't help myself'. Icehouse (the song) though is an absolute classic. Still sounds fresh.
Have you looked at anything from Split Enz? They were not an Aussie band but a New Zealand band who had a fair number of hits in the 1970's/1980's. Quirky videos too. Some of the band members went on to form Crowded House.
I saw Icehouse and Simple Minds live in concert in February - two great bands. Icehouse were my favourite group in the 1980’s and nothing has changed. I would add Hey Little Girl on to the must listen list.
Wow I love this song. Before Shazam and all the streaming services for music, was under the impression this was Mr David Bowie! When I found out about Icehouse, their music became my obsession. Fantastic song! So hauntingly beautiful!☮️
Other Aussie bands/artists to check out are The Go-Betweens "Streets of your town" The Black Sorrows "Harley and Rose" Eurogliders "Heaven (must be there) Cold Chisel "Khe Sanh" "Forever Now" Midnight Oil "Blue Sky Mine" "Forgotten Years" Little River Band "Reminiscing" "Playing to Win" Paul Kelly "To Her Door" "Before too long" "Dumb things" "Don Bradman" The Boys Nextdoor "Shivers" Models "I Hear Motion" "Barbados" Mental as Anything "Live it up" Mondo Rock "Come said the Boy" "Chemistry" Wendy Matthews (Canadian/Aussie) "The Day you went away" Rose Tattoo/Angry Anderson "We Can't be Beaten" "Bound for Glory" Darryl Braithwaite "One Summer" "Horses" Certainly more John Farnham like "Two Strong Hearts" "That's Freedom" "Thunder in your Heart"
Beautiful Song... I'm sure I've heard Icehouse, but not this song. It's GREAT! Amazing Baritone Voice (I guess I'd call it).... Great reaction, You Guys! :)
This is my FAVORITE by Icehouse. Thank you for doing it. The band is full of great music. Crazy is another one you should check out; great video! It's a nod to an old Clint Eastwood movie, Play Misty for Me. 😉 As for Aussie bands, there are a couple of big ones you missed--Midnight Oil, INXS. But Jay, really? How could you POSSIBLY forget The Bee Gees?!?! 😆
They were called the Flowers before they later changed the bands name to icehouse..also like to hear some INXS -JUST KEEP WALKING, and PSEUDO ECHO-listening both 80s bands.😊😊
Jay & Amber, You’ll love the Great Dionne Warwick's - Walk On By, Do You Know The Way To San Jose, I Say A Little Prayer and Alfie. All Burt Bacharach/Hal David written hit songs. Music by Burt, Words by Hal. Timeless Music.
@@goosesmom7926 They do a black female icon once every month or so. Remember, it took three years for them to do a reaction to Sarah Vaughan. They've never done Toni Braxton. Amber and Jay need to do better. I know Patreon pays the bills but if they want to remain relevant, they need to go beyond British, Euro and Aussie bands.
Icehouse is an amazing band. Should have been much bigger stars in USA! Number 1 in Australia! Still touring. Get their greatest hits. About 30 great songs❣️
Iva Davies is one of Aussies best songwriters - Icehouse was originally called Flowers - when they were told a European band had already got the name, they changed to the title of their first LP - ICEHOUSE - and never looked back! Check out Great Southern Land!! Another great Aussie band to check is Cold Chisel, fronted by Jimmy Barnes (who also has a great solo career). Bow River, Flame Trees and Breakfast at Sweethearts for Cold Chisel! And then their is us Kiwis across the Ditch - Crowded House, Split Enz, Hello Sailor, Dragon and the Maori bands too!
Even amongst Australian bands, Icehouse is unique. Their list of great songs is pretty long, too. The next one of theirs I'd go with is the rocker- Walls.
I’m so glad you got back to Icehouse! Thank you so much for returning to them. You should keep going down this rabbit hole. I remember you did Electric Blue about a year ago. Some more great Icehouse songs are Crazy, Nothing Too Serious, Touch The Fire, The Kingdom, Jimmy Dean, Great Southern Land, Mr Big, Miss Devine, Hey Little Girl and We Can Get Together.
The Easybeats Australias Beatles. George young on guitar is Angus Youngs older brother. Also Icehouse Great Southern Land. The one with Aussie scenery and nature.
Andy Gibb & Irene Cara | SOLID GOLD | “Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart" (Irene could barely look at him and at the end her face is beaming because he gives her a kiss)
Icehouse are one of the great 80s Aussie bands - and Iva Davies, hugely talented, with perhaps the best mullet ever! My absolute favourite of theirs is Great Southern Land. It sounds the way I feel about being Australian.
Well... this song is a MOOD, eh? "No Promises" was my introduction to Icehouse when I managed to catch it on the radio a few times as a teen. The song just totally transported me somewhere else when I heard it. It never became a huge hit, but I was entranced by it - and hooked on this band after that. Because this got somewhat of a tepid reception in the U.S., I was somewhat surprised when their later album spawned such huge hits as "Crazy" and "Electric Blue." Both fantastic songs, but I will always have a special spot in my heart for this one!
Icehouse are top tier Aussie music. So many great tracks. I've had the fortune of seeing them live a number of times and they are total professionals and never fail to put on a great show! Some other great tracks to check out from Icehouse are My Obsession, Crazy and Great Southern Land.
This is one of my favorite Icehouse songs. I love moody, atmospheric, synth-pop and Iva Davies' voice is otherworldly! They also did a great live version of this recently in their "40 Years Live' tour. Another live performance I suggest by Icehouse is the song 'Paradise Ritz', live from New York 1986.
So glad to see you've come across Icehouse, and that I came bumped into this only an hour after it was posted. Gonna look up your reaction to Electric Blue! Love this band - very underrated here in the US. Amber, your ability to get to the essence of the particular element that makes a song special is phenomenal! "No Promises" puts me into a reverie, and your description of its haunting, otherworldly feel is spot on! You've done it so often and in so many genres while I was searching for the words to express the feeling behind a song. Love this channel.
I’ve been waiting sooo long for them to do a Cold Chisel song ❤❤
@@racheln2165 hi, the day they do Bow River live will be unforgettable I think 🇭🇲
and/or When the War is Over (Live version).
Please do not listen to Terry! Khe Sanh sux big time! It sounds like the song is always starting and then it ends.🤮🇦🇺
INXS should be on that list of favorite Aussie bands
And Divinyls
and Angel city, aka the Angels.
And the Triffids
They have short memories.
Australian Crawl!!
You haven't even begun to scratch the surface of our wonderful Australian music, so much to discover :)
I'm still in love with this song almost 40 years later !
Right??
I can't remember the last time i heard this song, until today!!!
Same here.
My favorite Icehouse song is "Great Southern Land." Lotsa luv ❣
LOVE Icehouse! One of my favorite bands from the 80s
'Crazy' is another great song from Icehouse.
My favorite from them!...."I got a Pocket full of holes"....
Indeed, a really good tune!
I always wondered (due to the sparseness and repetition of the lyrics) if Crazy started life as an improv jam, or warm up song in rehearsal
Agree. The whole "Man Of Colours" album is a gem! My favorite is "Girl In The Moon" but there is not a bad song on it and it is an album I have never gotten tired of listening to. Also love the voice of Iva Davies.
Adore that song too!
HEY LITTLE GIRL TREMENDOUS BY THEM !!!!
Arguably my favourite, with a deceptively difficult bass line
Crowded House is another great Aussie/New Zealand band. You've done "Don't Dream It's Over" but they have a bunch more songs:
"Something So Strong"
"Better Be Home Soon"
"Fall At Your Feet"
"Private Universe"
"World Where You Live"
"Weather With You"
So agree with you there!
Hello from Canada. 🖐 My favourite Crowded House songs were: Don't Dream It's Over; Something So Strong & Better Be Home Soon.
I agree with all of the songs mentioned... Add "Distant Sun" too...
Ice House the song Great South Land is a Aussie anthem
You know whats funny, growing up here in South Africa my parents and their friends used to play that song like it was referring to South Africa, I only found out when I was older it was referring to Australia
Icehouse's "Great Southern Land" is one of Australia's unofficial anthems.

The Church, great Aussie band.
The Church would be another great one. Was just listening to "Reptile" today.
"Reptile" is their best
The Church for me equals the greats like : Beatles, stones , queen etc. Look at how long how many albums and how many quality tracks tours.
@@PjRjHj In my opinion, “UNDER THE MILKY WAY”, is one of the very best songs of the 80s. “REPTILE” is right up there too!
Crowded House, Divinyls, Little River Band...and BEE GEES! Aussies have literally infiltrated our musical gestalt. ☺️
I’ll add Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, Noiseworks, Men at Work, and Savage Garden to your awesome Aussie list!🇦🇺
Air Supply 🙂
Divinyls only ever seem to get referenced these days via the track 'I Touch Myself' but tracks such as 'If Love Was A Gun' and 'I'm On Your Side' (both from their 1991 album, 'Divinyls' are absolute gems.
Pseudo Echo, Midnight Oil.

Great Southern Land is a Classic
a superb band my fave album is man of colours
You guys need to do some more Crowded House. "Better be home Soon", "Something so Strong", "Now we're getting Somewhere" all great songs ❤

Jimmy Barnes is awesome! Good Times with Michael Hutchence is one they should review!
In Germany their biggest hit was "Hey little girl" ,pls react.,thanks👍

1980 New Zealand band suggestion - "I Got You" by Split Enz.
1983 - "Rain" by Dragon (another New Zealand band).
An Aussie great you’ve missed is Jimmy Barnes, he’s one of our best ever. I’d suggest starting with “Stone Cold” Jimmy Barnes ft Joe Bonamassa, it’s very bluesy with guitar solos that are mind blowing.

Hunters and collectors! The river runs dry album. Another great aussie band.
I vaguely remember this song, just checked and it only reached #79 on Billboard 100, its a shame it didn't get more airplay it's a great song
It sounded like Spandau Ballet, but not as good. ABC was out then and sounded better.
More Aussie greats. When Something is Wrong with my Baby, LIVE VERSION!! Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham. You won't be disappointed!!
More John Farnham live, Jimmy Barnes, and some fab 80s Moving Pictures (What about me), Goanna (Solid Rock), Kids in the Kitchen, Marcia Hines, Angels, Guy Sebastian
Icehouse is great. Man of Colours and the song Icehouse are two of my favourites of theirs.
One of my favorites from Icehouse, legendary 80's band from Down Under. 'Crazy' is another good one from them and 'Hey, Little Girl ', both were hits in those days.

Loved this. After "Electric Blue," this is my favorite of their songs.
A great follow up to this would be "Crazy."
My favorite song by Icehouse from my teenage years💙
Kids In The Kitchen and Wa Wa Nee were two great Aussie pop bands from the mid-80s worth checking out.

Absolutely!!!! Those are some of my favorites. They definitely need a listen- Amber will love them
Agreed. She'll love those!
@@blackblake3658 They do A LOT of American bands too.
Hunters and Collectors Talking to a Stranger another Aussie banger
Icehouse is an amazing band. Should have been much bigger stars in USA!
Number 1 in Australia! Still touring. Get their greatest hits. About 30 great songs❣️
If Amber wants sax they must listen to Don't Believe Anymore 😄
HUGE rabbit hole guys.
Synonymous with Australia 🇦🇺
Great Southern Land,Don't believe anymore...
Also Cold Chisel,Mondo Rock,Mi Sex, Mentalas anything... you're welcome 👍🇦🇺😎
Glad you got to this one! Love Icehouse! Such a distinctive voice and vibe!
"Crazy" is their best song.
I always thought It was David Bowie ......same tone.....gorgeous voice....
Classic Aussie rock ballad - Rose Tattoo: 'suddenly'
Angry Anderson 💥
Icehouse are one of the great 80s Aussie bands - and Iva Davies, hugely talented, with perhaps the best mullet ever! My absolute favourite of theirs is Great Southern Land. It sounds the way I feel about being Australian.
Silver chair. Frog stomp
Australian bands are among the most beloved by Brazilians ;-)
Noiseworks, Choirboys, The Church are all good bands
I would have thought Amber's favorite Aussie band was Little River Band.
Great music great writing great live music
Well... this song is a MOOD, eh? "No Promises" was my introduction to Icehouse when I managed to catch it on the radio a few times as a teen. The song just totally transported me somewhere else when I heard it. It never became a huge hit, but I was entranced by it - and hooked on this band after that.
Because this got somewhat of a tepid reception in the U.S., I was somewhat surprised when their later album spawned such huge hits as "Crazy" and "Electric Blue." Both fantastic songs, but I will always have a special spot in my heart for this one!
NO PROMISES & MY OBSESSION my favorite Icehouse tunes.
Great Southern Land from Icehouse is also know as an Australian anthem...banger 😊
Icehouse are top tier Aussie music. So many great tracks. I've had the fortune of seeing them live a number of times and they are total professionals and never fail to put on a great show! Some other great tracks to check out from Icehouse are My Obsession, Crazy and Great Southern Land.
Great Southern Land.. - Icehouse.
the best song by Icehouse ever awesome
Probably my most favorite song ever. I love this song so much
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!! Welcome to the goldmine......
Ive got 2 of their vinyls. Super talented band. 🤘
This song is just magical, loved it at 17 love it now at 56❤
This is one of my favorite Icehouse songs. I love moody, atmospheric, synth-pop and Iva Davies' voice is otherworldly! They also did a great live version of this recently in their "40 Years Live' tour. Another live performance I suggest by Icehouse is the song 'Paradise Ritz', live from New York 1986.
Great Southern Land by Icehouse! 😎🔥🤘🎸
brilliant music from when i was young, Hey Little Girl is a must
"Heaven" by Eurogliders. Yes they are Australian.
Need to do jimmy Barnes
So glad to see you've come across Icehouse, and that I came bumped into this only an hour after it was posted. Gonna look up your reaction to Electric Blue! Love this band - very underrated here in the US.
Amber, your ability to get to the essence of the particular element that makes a song special is phenomenal! "No Promises" puts me into a reverie, and your description of its haunting, otherworldly feel is spot on! You've done it so often and in so many genres while I was searching for the words to express the feeling behind a song.
Love this channel.
Great 80's band.
