Simon Le Bon (the lead singer) said in an interview that this song is actually about falling in love for the first time, sex, and desire, and the vulnerability and fragility that comes with all that. It was written for his wife, Yasmin.
I agree! When I heard the album I thought,This is a more mature, sophisticated Duran Duran, some change had occurred. At least that's what I thought in 1986.
Duran Duran’s videos were always a work of art. Save A Prayer, Ordinary World, Is There Something I Should Know, A View to a Kill, Wild Boys, Union of the Snake. All great songs. 🎶💕🎶
Not only their videos, but they were one of the best bands to see live in concert as well. Everything was well produced, professional and just generally awesome. They put on A SHOW, in person or on video.
Duran Duran is awesome.. Andy Taylor's mother was my mom's next door neighbor.. she would hang out with my mother when she was in town.. I got to hang out and meet Duran Duran when they were in town.
This is much later than the Duran Duran songs you’ve reacted to previously. It was a comeback for them in the early 90s when music had taken a turn towards the more somber and moody (as you mentioned). When I was 15, I played this song over and over along with Ordinary World from the same album. That’s definitely a song to check out also. That and the song Electric Barbarella, which was later still, but more upbeat and reminiscent of their earlier material.
Takes me back to high school when this one came out. It was such a different sound. If you have not heard the sample Fire by Ferry Corsten, it is worth the listen. Its got Simon's vocals on a loop. It is a great work out song!
Since you like this, you would also like Ordinary World. And congratulations to Duran Duran for smashing Eminem in the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame fan vote.
I'd loke to thank you guys... you are the only reacters who actually seem to listen intently enough to only.pause the songs at Just the right moment so it doesn't interrupt the flow of the song!!!
JT is a MONSTER on bass. Im seeing them in concert in Phoenix on September 7. It will be my first time because I was a metal head, but JT has always been my favorite bassist. He is a BASS GOD!
They're finally getting their rock n roll hall of fame status this year. 40 years going! Hit the way back machine and keep digging into their artsy stuff!
Winning the fan vote is not a guarantee that DD will get into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Hopefully, they will get in. The fan vote is a very, very small part of the overall process. What matters is what Duran Duran's peers who get to vote, historians and music writers, who also vote decide to do. There are over 1,000 voters and it is what their vote says that counts. Not the fan vote. The good news is that six out of seven of the fan vote winners have been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
As a lifelong “Duranie”, I can tell you that their videos have ALWAYS been artistically appealing and avant-garde. That is their “signature” if you will. Ordinary World and Save A Prayer would be my suggestions for a reaction. Both are beautiful songs and Save A Prayer in video form is set in Sri Lanka and is beautiful!
This was their “come back” song. They still sounded like Duran Duran but it was newer and fresh. One of my favorite 80s bands. and my personal favorite song. Came out when I was a teenager.
In 93, a radio DJ said " new Duran coming up in the next hour". This was so different from their 1982 stuff, it played and I didn't even realize it lol. I thought they didn't play It. It was sooo 90s sounding, it fit in with all the other songs that hour, I should have listened to the voice. The music had an Enigma vibe and sounded like 93.
I was fortunate to see them in 1984 at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago. It was a great show. We danced the entire time. Save A Prayer, Ordinary World, Girls On Film, Wild Boys, Rio, New Moon on Monday and their first hit, Planet Earth, which I heard in the grocery store the other day are all great. They are still releasing new material and are up for induction in the RRHOF. They have a great catalogue.
Y’all need to react to their track “Notorious”! As hip hop fans, I’m sure you’ll recognize it because it’s been sampled numerous times by various artists.
Well. It only took 15 years to FINALLY get this band on the ballot to be inducted into the Rock and Roll of fame but got done this year and they ran away with the fan vote of almost 1,000,000 votes. Simon Le Bon has a voice like no other. Been listening to them since 1982. Keep doing my Duran boys! This song is in my top three favorites by the band.
One of my all-time favorites from them. Love the video too. It's all about being who you are and to stop hiding. At least for me, or you will unravel and come undone. You only have yourself, so LOVE YOURSELF for whomever you are! Much more Duran Duran please! Rio, Notorious, Save a Prayer, A View to a Kill, Ordinary World, Girls on Film do them! And more! lol
Duran Duran - Ordinary World Duran Duran - Save A Prayer Duran Duran - The Wild Boys Duran Duran - The Reflex Duran Duran - A View To A Kill Duran Duran - Notorious
After ridding themselves of pure pop new wave sound they originally started with, they really found themselves with Come Undone. I did not believe this was really Duran Duran when I first heard it and had to verify it for myself. This and Ordinary World set them apart.
The drums own this song, that slow sultry sexy beat. Awesome guitar and beautiful lyrics. The perfect package. As others have said, you would love their James Bond theme View To A Kill.
I am the number one Duranie! They were the best of New Wave of British bands of the early eighties! They ruled the eighties with amazing hits and videos and they are very versatile! In the MTV generation videos were everything and we waiting with great anticipation for the next Duran Duran video! This song is from the nineties and they still tour and make new music! They have lasted so long because they are so versatile! They even split into two separate bands in the mid-eighties, Arcadia and The Power Station, and had huge hits with them and then reunited to continue their reign as Duran Duran!!❤️❤️
1992 thus was their second single off the album known as the wedding album....one of their most beautiful sounding songs ever.....that drum snare, the intro, the backup singer .....BEAUTIFUL....DD were known as the English video bench mark of the 80's...unfortunately by 1986 the band had gone from 5 members to 3 and were struggling to keep up with the bands/artist this album got them back into the charts again
Duran Duran are my absolute favorite band. I have loved them since I was 12 years old. This song and Ordinary World are my favorite songs. Duran Duran pioneered the story telling videos. Other songs you definitely need to check out by them is Save a Prayer, New Moon on Monday, Night Boat, New Religion and all of their songs. Thank you so much for doing this reaction.
You guys are hitting a lot of the great 80’s hits lately; YES! For Female Friday, PLEASE do Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam’s “I WONDER IF I TAKE YOU HOME”; you haven’t done any Freestyle yet, and this song was a HUGE hit! Freestyle in the 80’s and early 90’s was club/dance music, primarily by Latin singers; growing up in Brooklyn, it was everywhere ❤️
Duran Duran were just HUGE in the mid 80's. One of the interesting things about the band was that it featured three members with the last name Taylor that were not related to each other. I saw this band opening for David Bowie on his Glass Spider Tour, a few years before this record was released. This was their big comeback album.
Duran Duran got their big breakthrough in the USA by being among the first UK bands to utilise the 24 hour cable channel MTV, which began in 1981, which needed as many music videos as it could get. Duran Duran's good looks, catchy songs and creative videos were a perfect fit for the channels audience. This hit song is more than a decade into the bands career, and the video has hints back to their origins. The frilly shirts the band members are wearing is a nod to what they were wearing in the 'New Romantic' era which they were at the forefront of in the 1980's. The band's name was inspired by a villainous character (Durand Durand) in the 1968 sci-fi film 'Barbarella'. The opening credits of the film show Jane Fonda stripping off in zero gravity, and at [5:19] in the video the backing singer, Tessa Miles, recreates a similar look kicking off her chains underwater. Tessa has sung with pretty much all the major artists from the 1980's (David Bowie, Tears For Fears, The Police, Annie Lennox) and also many of the top icons from the 60's and 70's too (The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Cher).
I grew up in the 80s on these guys and they were huge yet looked at as pretty boys ..it wasn't until I was older that I realized these dudes were elite musicians.
Before Amber paused it, I was thinking “moody,” “dark,” “deep,” but also uplifting vibes from the vocals. Y’all’s description hit the nail on the head! Duran Duran’s best ever!
Duran Duran are very versatile! This song and "Ordinary World" (please react to this one next?) were from their comeback album on the 90s. For more Duran Duran songs with this vibe..."Ordinary World", "What Happens Tomorrow", "Out of my Mind". From the 80s "Save a Prayer". For more dance funky Duran Duran "Notorious", "Skin Trade" "Pressure Off". For experimental Duran Duran "The Chauffeur" (80s), "The Man who stole a Leopard", "Invisible" (from their new album), "The Universe Alone". I love them! More DD please? 🥰 Great reaction guys!!!
When the band took a break from each other and did solo projects, Simon, Nick and I think Roger did, Arcadia and So Red the Rose, an awesome, awesome album!! very hard to find.
To me it's like Duran Duran became a grown up adult band in the 90s! It's such a departure from their 80s music. Off this album were so emotional, and dark indeed. Simon Le Bon's vocals were like a masterpiece.
Don’t get me wrong, I like their 80s pop, but their 90s new wave/soft rock is definitely more of a masterpiece. It feels more like they definitely found their sound, and like you said, definitely matured.
Mood-provoking and deep. One of my favorites from Duran Duran. There’s a saying that a “nervous breakdown” is really a putting together. Not “falling apart” but “falling together”. Ck out “Ordinary World” for another deep Duran Duran song. Another one of their later songs from the 90’s. Kind of poignant and appropriate for today and our “new normals”.
Yes they usually put a lot into their videos. Very cinematic with beautiful exotic areas. Others have mentioned it but “Save a Prayer” video is one to hit (1982) It’s another song by them that’s easy to get lost in. Great song.
A lush and gorgeous song I’ll oftentimes listen to over and over. When Warren Cucarullo (from the band Missing Persons) replaced Andy Taylor on guitar, he brought some really fresh ideas. The dreamy “underwater” guitar riff is so cool. You should go way back in Duran Duran’s catalog next and try “Planet Earth” ..
Great reaction! Fun fact - Duran Duran took their name from the villain (Durand Durand) in the 1968 sci fi film Barbarella starring Jane Fonda. If you have never seen this film - you MUST watch it, it's iconic, camp, hilarious, and fantastic.... Also, Kylie Minogue mimicked the very iconic opening sequence of the film in her music video for 'Put yourself in my place'.
GREAT CHOICE!! Duran's catalog is chock full of hits. I won't even make a suggestion for them. Throw a dart at a list of their catalog, and you're bound to find a hit. The tone of the song you're accurately detecting is indicative of where they were in their career at the time, plus I think it was also heavily influenced by the still somewhat new guitar player Warren Cuccurullo. He replaced the original player Andy Taylor. They were veterans that had been around for well over a decade at that point. This and other songs from this era reflect that maturity. YES AMBER!! It's an arguable point but it has been stated that Duran effectively invented the narrative video. You saw that in Hungry Like the Wolf. Even The Reflex which I guess at it's core is a performance video is plenished with hard edits and esoteric imagery that for the time was WELL outside the norm for performance videos. Since they made outstanding, radio friendly music, and since the five of them were "pretty", they were able to leverage videos/MTV to cultivate a monstrous following. J - If you want a rocker, Duran's original six stringer (Andy Taylor) and bass player (John Taylor) did a one off side-project called the Power Station. The lead singer was Robert Palmer, a big name at the time. They remade a song from the seventies called "Get It On (Bang a Gong)". I don't think it was a number one smash, but I recall it getting a lot of airplay on both radio and MTV. I think you in particular would appreciate it.
Warren Cuccurullo was not a "somewhat new guitar player" with Duran Duran. When recording the Wedding Album in 1991-1992, Warren Cucurullo was already playing in Duran Duran since 1986 and then he became an official member in 1990. He was with Duran Duran as long as Andy Taylor was with Duran Duran when Duran Duran recorded The Wedding Album.
@@billw715 Duran Duran was formed in the late 70s. Come Undone was released in the 90s. Using your math Warren was an official member of the band for three years (20%) of the band's 15 years of existence to that point. While he wasn't a brand new member, he was somewhat new.
I was a teenager of the 80s and, for better or worse, the top two bands that i probably fanatic out over more than any others -- and there was a thousand of them -- were DEF LEPPARD and DURAN DURAN. Both of these bands had like 10 hit songs on every one of their albums.. and a ton of albums. Again, there were countless amazing bands and talent in the 70s and 80s, but these two dominated the Top 40 (or whatever) radio stations in the 80s -- understandably.
They provided the soundtrack to my high school years. Try listening to "Rio", "Save a Prayer", "Is there something I should know", and "Girls on Film". Just as a cool aside, the album cover art features the wedding day photos of the parents of the band members.
As good as other bands/artists' videos were during the MTV generation nobody could touch Duran Duran's output, they were THE video band. That's not to say they were only known for their videos, they only capitalized on them with the advent of the fledgling new music network; they made great music, their more than 100 million records sold worldwide, and longevity, can attest to that.
'Coming Undone' is a term used to denote the state of losing the thoughts and will that keeps one together in day to day life. When you lose your strength to hold it all together is when you 'come undone'. The song is about pleading to a woman to understand that she keeps giving her emotions to other men, but he's the one that she runs to when it's over and she 'comes undone'. This theme is done just a little better in the Sick Puppies (who you have not reacted to yet... I'm waiting) song 'All The Same'. Although when you first react to them, I would suggest starting with either 'Riptide' or 'Maybe', both of which were major radio hits.
I like most of Duran Duran’s songs but this is by far my favorite. I don’t know if it’s because it came out when I was in high school, and the music of my teen years definitely have a specific place in my heart. But it’s still a playlist mainstay for me. I also love “Ordinary World.”
I remember this one vividly but for an odd reason. Some girl I had gone to school with drove her car to a radio station naked so she could get free concert tickets to see Duran Duran when they were touring this album. It was a viral event in our town before that kind of thing really happened. Pretty sure she got the tickets but I can't remember what broke down.
For my money, the two best Duran Duran songs are this one and “Ordinary World” (both from the same album). BTW, this song came out (since you said it was deeper than HLTW) about 10 years after HLTW.
Oh DUDES! This is one of the best songs by Duran Duran. They have many hits but this one and Ordinary World are SO good!
Agree. I love both this song and Ordinary World.
Don't forget "A View to a Kill". Great song.
"Union Of The Snake"
@@BillGraper yes, good song.

Another song of theirs with that ethereal, chilled out sound is "Save A Prayer", which is one of my favorites

Classic.
I love Notorious. I play it at least once a day.
Love that one, it's my favorite Duran Duran.
@@billw715 this was gonna be my comment!
One of the best and my favorite songs by Duran Duran. I feel like Come Undone could be release today in 2023 and be a HIT! It is timeless imo!
Acoustic. Cello and guitar. Minimalist, one vocal. Think Cowboy Junkies.
This song and album was the evolution to their 80s sound in the 90s.

Everything was well produced, professional and just generally awesome.
They put on A SHOW, in person or on video.
Agree. Save a Prayer is very similar to Come Undone with its overall tone. Saw them live with INXS way back in the early 80’s. Great show!
Notorious as well so funky!!!
and their first single Planet Earth
New Religion, too. Killer baseline.
Duran Duran is awesome.. Andy Taylor's mother was my mom's next door neighbor.. she would hang out with my mother when she was in town.. I got to hang out and meet Duran Duran when they were in town.
"Ordinary World" is a Beautiful Tune also
"Save a Prayer" is Stunning
This is my favorite Duran Duran song! I got excited when I saw this.
"Rio" and "Ordinary World" were good songs by them too. Duran Duran were on MTV when it was still music video driven.
... and of course "Wild Boys"!

@@billw715 Thanks for the correction. It's a really good song for folks to give a listen.
Before Amber paused it, I was thinking “moody,” “dark,” “deep,” but also uplifting vibes from the vocals. Y’all’s description hit the nail on the head! Duran Duran’s best ever!
Песня классная , она мне еще понравилась в далекие 90 е первый раз, супер❤
Love this song, definitely one of their best 🎶❤️
This song has a very hypnotic, haunting quality to it - almost dreamlike.
When the band took a break from each other and did solo projects, Simon, Nick and I think Roger did, Arcadia and So Red the Rose, an awesome, awesome album!! very hard to find.
Duran Duran - Girls on Film - The Reflex - Wild Boys - Ordinary World - Save a Prayer
One of their most amazing slower songs, Love them...Thanx so much, Peace
Please listen to more Duran Duran! They were my favorite band in the 80s.
Duran Duran was selected to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame today.
They just finally got inducted on the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame... and they so deserved it!
The look on Jay's face when the guy opens up his shirt and he's wearing a negligee is priceless
Love this song! Also, there is a Canadian rock band called My Darkest Days that did a killer cover of this song that is worth a listen!
Duran duran is great All she wants
Great reaction!
Fun fact - Duran Duran took their name from the villain (Durand Durand) in the 1968 sci fi film Barbarella starring Jane Fonda. If you have never seen this film - you MUST watch it, it's iconic, camp, hilarious, and fantastic.... Also, Kylie Minogue mimicked the very iconic opening sequence of the film in her music video for 'Put yourself in my place'.
Duran Duran's masterpiece.
Favorite Duran Duran song I like.
Actually it's the only Duran Duran song I like. But man does this have some passion!
Ordinary World is the only one that I like.
I saw Duran Duran pre Covid in 2019, that put on a fantastic show, must see!

If you want a rocker, Duran's original six stringer (Andy Taylor) and bass player (John Taylor) did a one off side-project called the Power Station.
Their new record is right up there with DD's best. Amazing record. One of 2021's best. Check it out.
And New Moon On Monday!
I love this side of Duran Duran. Another of their hits in this style was "Ordinary World."
Forget the video, close your eyes for this one. Great tune!
Duran Duran are in my top 5 pop bands....try "Skin Trade", "Notorious" and "Ordinary World".
This song came before i was born and loving it so much!
Duran Duran's crowning masterpiece!
For my money, the two best Duran Duran songs are this one and “Ordinary World” (both from the same album). BTW, this song came out (since you said it was deeper than HLTW) about 10 years after HLTW.
Duran Duran have a huge catalogue full of amazing songs & videos. Here's hoping they're inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year.
