It's just something a story director, ahem, I mean "news director" at CNN wanted you to feel. The father asking for the police to "pay" and be fired and face murder charges was icing on the cake for that story director. It played right into his/her/their hands.

Knowing my child could have potentially been saved after seeing this image is terrible. Not one police officer had the balls to make a call and do the right thing and try to save those kids lives.

This man's pain is so evident in his voice. I can't fathom what he and his family are going through. To know your baby was in there while trained, armed men with guns stood by and did nothing for an hour. Accountability is absolutely necessary. This cannot happen. My God those poor innocent babies.
Having survived two first person shootings, I can tell you that the surviving kids will experience more trauma from seeing news stories like this than from the first person shooter event itself.

@@central_scrutinizr It's not the event itself that causes the most trauma sometimes; it's how things are handled afterwards. This public backlash is just causing more stress for the kids than the 1-hour delay. I've been through two first person shooter events. I know first hand.

I haven’t seen anything that suggests the victims were still alive during the delay.
But, another point: these police are carrying military grade weapons. Those rounds will punch through walls like a hot knife through butter. So how sensible would it be to have these guys firing inside the building without any clear knowledge of where the shooter was?
I’m not backing the police here - I’m Australian and I think the police organisation and standards in the USA are appalling - but I am saying that in the heat of the moment, in a backward little force like this town had - nothing is going to go as planned. If you’re expecting it to then you’re living in la la land. Facing people with military grade weapons and the intention of using them on you concentrates the mind wonderfully. Especially when you’re not sure where they are. The confusion and disorganisation is something you will always get in situations like this. And the hesitation too. That’s just how it is. You want this to not happen again? Get rid of the guns.

I’m so sorry to hear that he, and you, are going through that. Do you know why he’s severely distressed about school? It’s emotional crisis, needs equal crisis support.
Societally we don’t value mental & emotional experiences of kids, viewing things from our 30+ years of experience. They’ve got big/intense feelings & thinking, but not the tools to manage or power to change their situation, unlike us.
If it was us having daily panic attacks sobbing before work.
Communication & intentional relationship is key. Use his interests to name you as a duo e.g superhero & sidekick. Book in twice a week Daddy/Mommy & son team building time. Name things according to his interests/team name e.g Marvellous Mondays. Thor Thursdays.
Kids open up best if they’re doing something; chalk draining, learn a TikTok dance together, baking, Nature walk & leaf art. Ask questions you don’t normally to get to know one another better- “Do you believe in God?”. to “If you were a landmark you would be?..”
It’s critical kids know
1. Difference between private & a secret
2. Big & small people dont share secrets
3. He can tell Mom and Dad _anything_- no secrets
4. If someone tells him to Keep it a secret/not tell/threaten if you tell..he has to tell Mom/Dad, he’ll be safe & okay.
5. He’ll never get in trouble/be upset with him for telling you about a worry or secret
6. He doesn’t need to worry about you- you’re a grown up with a toolbox to care for yourself. You’re always ok.
7. You want to hear about his worries- huge or tiny, serious or silly. You want to listen
8. He can always talk to you about anything.
9. You will always love him. There’s nothing he can tell you to make you love him less/think he’s anything but wonderful
10. Parents don’t have all the answers- they make mistakes,, embarrassing moments, bad choices. You only got here with life experience & learning- helps him stop internalising when making normal mistakes
Develop a toolbox together of skills. Be creative. a physical representation: Treasure chest; Superman or wrestling belt; vintage suitcase made Harry Potter theme.
Use team dates to talk about emotional well-being tools- what they are, how we get them, how they help us when we have/use them, what happens when we don’t. Print a list of examples. He draw his feelings now, vs how he wants to feel focus on internal feelings. Not external things.
Brainstorm design. He can try different tools, see how they work for him. Many depend on context. He needs to develop a suitcase to choose from.
Make & decorate the case/chest/belt from craft/thrift store items .
For each tool, set a S.M.A.R.T goal. work only 1 or 2 a time. E.g: develop multiple lines of communicating worry/upset without prompt. Line 1. ‘I feel worried’. 2 ‘aquaman cant swim’ = can we talk? 3. Put aquaman magnet on fridge 4. Hand signal in public
Or: know how to A. Recognise & B. Communicate I need time to myself to calm down
Or: use sensory items when upset/overwhelmed. Don’t need specially ones, have blast choosing items from thrift store. Keep them in his case.
I don’t know led up to this,but looking back might explain.
He’s got to feel safe at school, can’t learn in distress. Often these are thjngs that can be worked through with commincation, building your bond (helps self esteem) & working with the school- as well as a therapist in many Cases.
But it’s hard work & takes time. I really wish you both the very best and that things look up for him really soon.

This PD needs to be sued by all the families in class action lawsuit for mass murder. The Uvalde PD is just as much responsible for the murders of these children & their teachers as the shooter was, bc of their cowardice.

Thanks to the Supreme Court case DeShaney VS Winnebago County. No governmental entity(local, state, and federal police) has a duty to protect anyone. Another Supreme Court case Town of Castlerock VS Gonzalez makes police officers immune from prosecution for failing to protect any American. These two Supreme Court rulings effectively nullify the oath that police officers took, and provides protections for them. This is why the 2nd Amendment is so important.

Those are the tools they were given for situations like this, and they did nothing and allowed 19 beautiful kids and 2 teachers their lives and thousands of friends and families grief for the rest of their lives! All because they failed to do the job they signed up for and took a oath to serve and pertect the citizens of Uvalde TX! And again, they failed! They do much extra for them out of their own time and pocket. The "negligent teacher/door" story has been debunked. Also, it was the end of the school year, so lots of teachers arrange for special treats for kids, like watching a movie or having a celebration. It's not illegal(?!), special activities are good for socializing and can be a reward for the kids work during the past year. My daughter is the same age. This is an incredibly strong man.
All families of all victims of all mass shootings that are interviewed shortly after these well documented and true tragic events are incredibly strong as they all never shed a single wet tear drop. I would be a blubbering sobbing mess if I lost a loved one to such a tragic horrific murder such as this but I am clearly not as strong or stoic as all the people interviewed after these horrific events that never shed a single wet tear drop.
My love, care and compassion for all the victims, their stoic families and the survivors of this well documented true tragic event. They may never shed a single tear drop during their interviews but they are suffering on the inside.

Rapid action definetely would have saved lives how many kids lay bleeding out for an hour while cops refused their duties and training refusing ti help them poor helpless children god rest their souls. The Chief should have been fired immediately send a strong signal to others in his position to wake them up its a big wakeup call for all.

I am the mother of a young school aged child as well and the pain, anger and grief these parents and loved ones feel is truly unimaginable. School is supposed to be a safe place for our children to learn and grow. And the fact that the very people that swore and are supposed to protect the innocent being in our community failed to do just that it’s just truly infuriating and heartbreaking. My prayers go out to everyone affected especially to those parents that lost children and to the loved ones of the teachers that also gave more than the police officers that responded. It absolutely infuriates me to see them checking their phones. While innocent children are begging and praying for them to come save them. I cannot imagine the fear and the broken hope those children must of felt in their last moment. This is definitely something that everyone should be upset about and we CANNOT let this happen. They deserved so much more 💔
