Kate Ceberano AM (pronounced Cebrano) is by far the seasoned veteran here. She can sing any genre, has 30 albums to her name and has done whole solo shows with several renowned symphony orchestras. She received her AM in 2016 (Member of the Order of Australia, Queens honours). As for Nikka Costa, she was born in Japan to American parents, raised in the US and moved to Australia after marrying an Aussie. Her father was the great Don Costa - producer, conductor and musician who worked with Frank Sinatra amongst other greats. And Mahalia needs no introduction but did you know she is named after Mahalia Jackson?
That is sweet actually!!! I still love the Jacksons. Also ty for the context, its good. So Nikka knew all the right people and had it in her blood per say huh
Just to add to Dr_Kap’s comments, Kate was also in a band called I’m Talking ❤ from 1983 to 1987…. The production of Jesus Christ Superstar she was in came out in 1992 with John Farnham and Jon Stevens from the band Noiseworks. She is very well respected here in Oz. I love this version ❤ That being said the original is great too from Russell Morris ❤
Hi ya lovely....I've missed you, hope all is well in your world. I'm in trouble with my eyesight I have MD so although I can touch type I hope it still makes sense when I leave messages etc lol.
I figured Mahalia was named for the late greatest gospel singer of all time, Mahalia Jackson. Who else could it be? I have 2 of her albums. She has no peer. It sent me scurrying to play her music - it brings tears to the eyes of this here heathen.
Thank you for your lovely comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and agree with me about Kate. She's an absolute pop star who has always amazed us with her talent and ability to evolve. Your support means the world to me!
This song references the San Francisco summer of love, hallucinogenic drugs but most importantly, the Vietnam War. If you remember the original video clip had a lot of war references because Australians as allies in that ridiculous "police action" were in the same turmoil, anti war sentiment and political revolt that existed in America at the time. It was the baby boomers "sticking it to the man". The Americans naturally took this anti war song and rebranded it as a coke commercial in the day. This is a really good version by really good musos in a really well crafted live studio recording. An excellent production whichever way you look at it.
Oh yes indeed they are the real thing.... Such a brilliant performance from these "Real Women' lol (just saying) thanks guys for another great reaction of Aussie music
I'd never heard it right through before - this was wild! Greg, Kate Ceberano was Mary Magdalene in the JC Superstar cast singing in Danny's Everything's Alright reaction. The one whose, um, blessings Danny coyly admired. 🤭 Awesome reaction guys! 😻
Hmmm, not sure about this cover of Russell Morris's 1969 song Real Thing. As much as I admire Kate, I just don't know. Some covers are sometimes better when re imagined by someone else, and some aren't 🤷🏼♀️🤔
Ty for watching, the overall volume of this upload on RUclips was low in General. If you would please check out any other video and lmk if it's a recurring issue ❤ ty in advance
Hey, thank you for the thumbs up, and for the constructive criticism. We will look into that and try to get it fixed. We hope you will return and that the issue will be corrected when you do. 👍👍👂
