One day when I was 10 yrs old I was visiting a friends' place when I heard a song on their radio. I was possessed and consumed by this song. I stopped and looked at the radio that the song was coming from. I loved everything about this song. The song was "Live with Friends" by RUSSELL MORRIS. I treasure experiences like that. I saw him recently at the Sydney Opera House. He had a full orchestra backing him and his band. It was amazing. He's 74 now and his voice is as good and strong as ever. He sang this as the final song of the night. It went down a treat......of course.

It was around the time Jimi Hendrix passed away as my brother who also was a a guitarist/singer was in deep mourning over his loss. It is amazing how some things can trigger memories. I was only about 7 years old, have a listen to "The Real Thing'' by the same artist as it was way ahead of its time and full of psychadelia, very trippy.

A drug soaked one take recording ,a bit out of control, "Mama, live on GTK". It absolutely shook Led Zeppelin!
I've met Russell several times, he is such a nice down to earth guy. We took him for a burl on our motorcycle, he had a blast. We told him that we would often not be let into his gigs because we were dressed for riding (leathers etc) and he said if it happened again to tell them page him and he would fix it, well we rode to another state to see him play and yep they wouldn't let us in so asked that they page Russell to the door and he came straight away and told management of the venue that we were with him and we walked straight on in. He didn't have to do that at all, we were grateful and had a great night.
Now that is a very cool story. Must've been a Posh venue, not to be let in though. All the music venues I frequented were like Russell " down to earth " P.S. You must be very scary looking Bikers. LOL!!!

Welcome to late 60s early 70s Australia 🇦🇺. His song THE REAL THING is iconic in Australia and is still in use today at events and commercials. WINGS OF AN EAGLE is great and the song MR AMERICA 🇺🇸 could have been about another man it sounds like it to me. Russell is gay so it's possible and if it is it must be one of the very first of that type of song. Russell still performs I think he is 70yo or so he's been doing blues for many years with a reasonable amount of success. I think his album SMASH MOUTH did very well. He is probably less than ten years older than me but I was still a child when he rose to prominence. I think he recorded his first song when he was 17yo. He always dressed well and he was my hero when I was a kid. I still listen to these old songs regularly.
Everyone was slim in pre 70's Australia's pre fast food days. .Home cooked meat or roast chicken (not fried) or fish and 3 veg kept us all fit and slim, wiry or stacked healthy units. The only thing to destroy health back then was the amount of cigarettes smoked and beer downed in youth that went ballistic on the body come middle age. Mid 80's saw the start of diet fads. Ahh I was so young and light and strong back then just floating on a wave of good music on a wave of the sea. I'm so glad those little tinny sounding transistor radios are dead and gone though.
