Russell is a real gem, the comparison with Aaron Neville is a great compliment. Unfortunately due to bad broadcast regulation Australian media is now full of USA content. Australian artist's and crew have a had time earning a living because of this, along with the Americanization of our cluture.

Russell Morris was the support act for America touring Australia in 2017. We were delighted as we'd been fans almost 5 decades - his voice was still AMAZING - and should have been the headline act.

We didn't get colour tv til 1975 in Australia. I'm 55 & my mum bought her first colour tv in 1977.
The late 60s to mid 80s produced some amazing Australian music. Aussies in the conservative 1950s grew up with what we call 'The cultural cringe." We felt our culture was worthless next to Britain & Europe. Then there was, especially under Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, a bold belief that we were capable of making our own unique culture. Then you get incredible Australian rock & great movies like Mad Max & Picnic at Hanging Rock. The history of Australian art has been a journey of finding our own voice.

Written by Johnny Young and produced by Ian "Molly" Meldrum,[1] it was a huge hit in Australia and has become an Australian rock classic. You have to react to Russell Morris 'The Real Thing', psychedelic pop rock.....a beauty. It was produced by Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, who went on to be Australia's best known music 'guru' and host of the biggest music show in the country, Countdown. To get into the American music scene back then, you had to pay for your management to go to the USA and promote the band, then you had to pay to get a tape played for the management of a big act that you might get a tour supporting. You could try it on your own, but without the finance, that is very difficult. The bands that made it, Goanna and others, they were the ones who were lucky and got that very rare break. Chisel tried and failed in the USA, so did the Divynals and Mental as Anything. The list goes on. I know that Wendy and the Rocketts manager went to the USA several times, trying to get her a support on a major tour. They ended up getting booked for the European leg of a Brian Adams tour, he threw them off the tour after they were called back for encores in Berlin. They sat around in London and ended up supporting ZZ Top. I should mention that Wendy was charting higher in Berlin than Brian Adams at the time.

Thats gold, he is still singing around the traps. I saw him live a few years back before covid hit in Melbourne. Yes he has a great voice and there are plenty of his live tracks on youtube you can listen to. This track would have been huge if the rest of the world ever heard it. I remember my older brother playing it a lot when I was a kid in the early 70's. Good choice whoever requested it.

We didn't get colour tv in Australia until about 1973. I LOVE Russell Morris. He's still singing and is still amazing. Sweet Sweet Love is on my list of all time favourite songs. Russell's voice is very different now and he sings Aussie blues, which he writes. I've seen him in concert many times and I still love him. Check it out. Oh, and another fab Aussie singer you should check out is Brian Cadd - check out Gingerman

Looks like you are well and truly deep down the Aussie rabbit hole. Seeing as though you are clearly a fan of John Farnham, I’m certain you will love Jack Jones “Hold me in your Arms”.
Also would love to see your reaction to a very talented indigenous singer Thelma Plum. I highly recommend her Triple J (Live for like a version) video for ‘Better in Blak’. Such an amazing performance with a powerful message.

Jack Jones did a john farnham spoof for comedy club or Dgeneration or fast forward, one of those comedy shows, around the time he and southern sons were back up for john farnham! I loved Southern sons, saw them backing john at Seagulls in 1989 or90

At the beginning of December 2019, my wife and I had the pleasure of seeing him perform here in Melbourne. First half of the gig he played songs off his most recent album and his voice was great. The second half he sang all his great hits including this. When he began singing Sweet Sweet Love, I was overcome with emotion and nostalgia. His voice sounded exactly the same as when I first heard it back in the seventies! I just sat there stunned. For someone in their seventies to be singing like that just blew my mind. Russell Morris is still one of my all time favourites.
