Oh Yay...this is my request! 🤘 It is a cover of a Russell Morris song from 1969 so you probably heard it on something. This was recorded earlier this year while we were still all in lockdown. Mahalia's husband Ben is behind her on bass. Nikkas husband is behind her on drums (I believe), Clayton Doley, Jak Housden, Rob Woolf. Kate played Mary Magdelene in Jesus Chris Superstar with John Farnham. Thank you so much for reacting Nick.😃
Kate Cebrano is so underated. Beautiful voice. I along with the rest of Australia are looking forward to the day that Nick discovers Wendy Matthew's 'The day you went away'!
The original of this song by Russell Morris goes for nearly seven minutes. I read somewhere that the studio wanted to cut it back to three minutes for radio play but the producer, Molly Meldrum, locked himself in a room with the master tapes and refused to come out until they agreed not to cut it. The studio had spent so much money on the track by then, they agreed. There are two versions, the radio version and an even longer extended version. Both are really psychedelic, as you would expect in 1969. The Real Thing has been voted as one of Australia's top 50 favourite songs. Meldrum went on to host a music show called Countdown which ran for years and launched a generation of Aussie bands and performers. Johnny Young, who wrote The Real Thing, hosted a children's program called Young Talent Time where a very young Tina Arena started her career. The Australian music industry is a small world and it's not unusual to discover some unexpected collaborations and connections like this.
The original record written by Johnny Young and sung by Russell Morris out sold all others in Australia, including Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis etc. in 1969.
@@L-K-Jellyfish she is really under known /appreciated from my perspective.. i would love to see her step into her power even more.. and step up to the plate and claim her fame. She's brilliant.
Kate Ceberano has an unbelievable voice. She can sing anything. She teams up with John Farnham and John Stevens (who's voice will blow you away). The song is called everything's alright.
PLEASE REACT TO KATE CEBRANO! There’s a real reason the other girls in this video treated her like the queen she is. In this she let the others have the spotlight but man she is a great performer.
The majority of Aussie musicians are mates and definitely respectful of each others talent. For the past 2 years, with hard Covid lockdowns here, many of our singers chose to perform via social media, this is one of those times. What I love most about the Aussie performers is that there is usually no big egos involved, they just want to sing/perform and if it's with others, even better.
Wow Russell Morris would be thrilled with his song being performed like that!! These women have power, tone and performance par excellence,Mahalia is one of best singers in the world,if not then the best,I don't care what anyone says.
Haven't you reviewed any Kate Ceberano before this? 😮 She has one of the most seductive female voices in the industry, well I think any way. When this came out, I was absolutely blown away, I'd never have considered it to be sung by anyone else, but it was so very improved for it, now I don't know if I'll ever be able to hear the original Russell Morris one the same way again. Total side note, I loved how Kate Ceberano had the sunnies like the era when the song was first released, and that seeing 60s psychedelic style palm out. Love those little extra touches. You might well have heard it. The original version by Russell Morris was released here in 1969, and it's often used on ads here. The most famous use is probably the Coca-Cola ads, but also notable is NRL team South Sydney Rabbitohs used to run on to field to it, also the AFL has used it in their advertising as a code. News adverts, insurance, also in cinematic ost's like the movie The Dish. There's other cover versions out there too, the most famous are Kylie Minogue's which was made for a b-grade cyberpunk film she was in (the movie was trash, but her cover of the song was fantastic), and Midnight Oil (terrible version). But it's so perfect for ads, and ost's it's highly likely it's been used in something over there in the states too, and possible the Coca-Cola ad ran stateside as well. Fun Fact: This song was written by Johnny Young of Young Talent Time which starred, Tina Arena. Then, the producer of the original song, was Molly Meldrum, he was basically the original music reaction videos guy.
Anyone who was a partygoer back in 1969, we were all singing the chorus if not the whole song, it went for ages, you definitely needed a drink after it had finished.
Glorious work from three outstanding vocalists here. Worth having a listen to Russell Morris’ 1969 original version with its major studio production by Ian Molly Meldrum and its extended runtime allows a crazy outro that time wouldn’t allow this stellar trio.
Kate doesn't unleash her talents very often, but when she does she can easily match up to even John Farnham in power and technique in both low and high ranges.
I saw Kate Ceberano in concert back in 1985, and Michael Hutchence from INXS, jumped up on stage and performed with her. Just amazing. Her brother, Phil, used to be one of her guitarists and used to play in his own band as well - very talented family
You have to appreciate Nick's appreciation!-if you did not know Russell Morris's MASSIVE HIT song & Australian 60's psychedelia era, woulda been just like your parents hearing it in the 60's thinking WTF is this?THIS WAS SIMPLY breathtakingly BRILLIANT!👌👍👏👏👏💯❤

Russell Morris's song The Real Thing was used for Coca Cola ads in America. This is a brilliant cover but a very different vibe to Russell's anti war vibe intentions for it with it ending with a recording of the Hitler Youth children singing praise for Hitler in unison just before the thunderous Hirosha bomb explosion. You've really got to give it a listen now you've heard this version. There are vids of Russell singing it live but I recommend the original vid. The sound production and accompanying video is mind blowing. As they used to say back in the day.
This was written by Johnny Young, of talent time fame, originally as a tourism promotion song I believe. Molly Meldrum hit him up to do a Russell Morris version which was one of the greatest producing achievements in the analogue age.
