This song always cuts deep. I first heard it in the 90s when my ex-wife and I were having one of our many falling outs. It perfectly encapsulated how it felt between us, wanting to love and be loved back in equal measure but always having that rift between us. Each of us gave deeply of ourselves, but she refused to believe she could truly be loved, and so she couldn’t truly love. She hated herself too much to really see the man lying next to her. She couldn’t crawl out of a bottle or stay out of other men’s bedrooms, and it never got better for long. She kept searching for something she already had, but she couldn’t let herself believe it. So, that’s over, for a long time now. My bed is a lonely place for her absence, but it’s better than sleeping next to emptiness.
I almost forgot how many great songs Bush had. They really were one of the top bands of the 90's by far. Great melodic tunes and outstanding library of hits.
Same experience, 1997, yet with "Swallowed" instead of this song... I had no idea what happened. But never forgot that very first time I saw the video clip and heard the song. Pretty overwhelming.
Im 15, this song reminds me of my used to be best friend that has started to hang out with the wrong crowd, and is slipping down a long slope that is taking his life away from where it should be. Drugs, alcohol, vaping, all that stuff that can tear your life apart as a 15 year old. This just makes me think about all the fun we had and all the time we spent together and these “walls that lie between us” that have slowly separated us. I don’t think he knows that what he has done has affected so many people, and me especially. Everyone that sees this just remember life is full of pain and there is always a way out 🖤
I had the exact same experience at the exact same age, during the height of grunge music as the backdrop. It really hurts, but just be there for the guy, help if he lets you, and try to understand him rather than judge him, as he may be struggling with some really deep rooted personal/family traumas that you haven't experienced. And try not to be angry at him, although at times it can be really hard. In the meantime, build other friendships and form new bonds. My friend eventually came out of it, and is doing great, but it took about 15 years until we could occasionally hang out again like old times. Sometimes I'm still sad for the crucial adolescent years our friendship lost, but I hope you can put my advice and others' to better use than I was able to, cause I never got any advice like this back then, so I was left to try and figure it out as I go. Be strong and best of luck
Definitely pray for him. I will do the same :) I have a stepsister who became addicted to Heroin and it was ruining her life. I prayed for her to my Lord Jesus Christ and she got out of that downward spiral of perdition, she's doing a whole lot better today.
I’m 14 and I know so many people who have started going down that path. None of them are really my friends though. But I keep trying everyday to make sure me and my friends don’t go down that road. If there is anything grunge has taught me, it’s that doing drugs can really F up your life.

@@mstyles2667 Thanks brother, me too.
That song bring me back to the good times when Mtv still was MTV
It's weird looking at this video, seeing Gavin, and thinking once upon a time this was like the pinnacle of what a hot guy in the '90s was supposed to look like.
This one has means alot more to me than only one person would ever know.... totally respect it more than anything these days
One of the best songs of all time, plus gavin was awesome as baltazar in Constantine
The soundtrack of my adolescence.
Ageless
My son just turned 21 and went to a Minessota State Fair, bought tickets so $20 and seen Bush, Breaking Bendjamine and Alice in Chains!!!!
How many times have I listened to this song you ask? From the day heard it till the day I die.
Excellent song
It’s September 3rd 2022 and I am going to see them live with Alice In Chains in Washington state at Pain in the Grass tonight. The 90s kid in me is excited!!
Same here
Hey, who was the new lead singer for Alice? I thought the band broke up after he died. Great band and the singer had a very unique voice.
I regret saying so but Bush upstaged both Breaking Benjamin AND Alice In Chains at the Minnesota State Fair last week! What a goddam excellent show!! Gavin, please come back to Minnesota next year because all of your best fans are here!!
