Doubt very much it was someone messing around. We have this happen on our race cars (Porsche). The lower you have your car the more it pulls the axles out, when transporting the car bouncing up and down will pull out the half shaft. To keep this from happening we install a 10mm spacer between half shaft and axle.

I buy and sell at Mecum auctions, have been doing so for years. I almost never sell with no reserve unless my client specifically wants to. You get to choose with or without a reserve. If you choose no reserve and don’t get as much as you want, you made the choice and it’s your mistake, you didn’t get “screwed”.

One comment below would make sense. If shipper drove car into hauler and then had to push it out then when car was tied down the tie down strap may have been put on axles and if strap was at a angle from center of rear axle to outside edge of car the strap itself could have pulled shaft away from differential.

I have been in the automotive industry for 50 years. I buy and sell at Mecum frequently, I always go to Kissimmee, Indianapolis, and Harrisburg, at least. I’ve been going for several years. You are very astute to recognize that you approached the collector car auction all wrong. One of their auctions has generic cars like you brought, but that’s not really what their forte is. Mike with the mustang convertible, whoever told you that Rich guys hang around looking to buy toys for their wife is incorrect. Rich guys are there for rich guy cars, not to buy some incidental cheap car.
As for the skyline. You know that Mecum didn’t hurt that car because you drove it away from there and it was fine. Probably the other didn’t do anything to it either. The problem most likely lies with a shipper. For years I did one car transporting with my own equipment with myself as the only operator. I did what they called dedicated service, meaning the vehicle went directly from the pick up point to the drop off point. When you use these commercial haulers, they frequently picked them up and dropped them at a holding lot to be combined with others. I just about guarantee that’s where your problem is, I’ve seen cases where cars are taken out for joyrides a lot.
Anyway, hard lesson learned. If you want to do Mecum auctions correctly, focus on specialty cars, consign early, make sure your units are there before the first day of the auction for Max exposure, and if possible, carry them there yourself. There’s money to be made, you just need a different approach. I’ll tell you this, at literally every auction I’ve gone to, there are cars that draw homer prices, far above sellers reserved, and yet at the same auction, there are steals to be had. Literally both types at the same auction. Everyone. If you want to make money doing this, you have to put in the hours Sitting in the auction room, watching car after, hour after hour.
Indianapolis is Mecum‘s second biggest auction of the year, behind Kissimmee. I always do well there. Last year I sold two and bought two. Might want to consider a trip out there. I’ll be there, if I see on your page that you’re going I’ll try to look for you. Would be nice to meet you in person.

23:10 If I can't by 50 cent. That's the song. By the way, I'm almost 99.9% sure that the vehicle was improperly handled during transport. They ran it at excessive speeds up the transport ramp and popped the axle in the process.

I was so tempted to buy your Skyline, especially when you said you came back to Fl to pick it up/ move it. I went to Mecum, paid the $300 to bid on the 20k mile silver R33 GTR and when I saw it up close I realized it had a full repaint and not a great one.. along with some other issues. Same with the blue LM version r33 that didn't sell. I saw your Skyline and it looks immaculate. I just think I would hate myself for not waiting for a real GTR.

Speaking of right hand drive, you mentioned you have a G35. I have one too. It's the Skyline 350GT in Japan and right hand drive. What's peculiar about my 2003 G35 Coupe is that everything is right hand centric on the center stack. The radio and HVAC controls are to the right of center instead of left of center. It's the same as the Skyline.

Did you have the mileage when you dropped the car off to ship it back? If I take my car somewhere to be worked on, I check-the mileage. I had my brand new ZO 6. at the Country. Chevrolet down here in Warrington. Virginia. And my PDR was shut off (Performance data recorder). and it was on when the car went in the shop But when the car left the shop to go back to me, it was off. Plus it had 14 miles on it. And all it was coming for was a strip screw in my. spoiler You can't trust people. No. Telling what they did. The Car had 175 miles on it.👍👍

Alot of people lose money at Mecum. They spend a ton restoring or building a car, then when they're done staring at it in their garage, they sell it at Mecum for less than they have into it.

@@bams50 well craig’s been doing it for years and this hasn’t worked out for him, might just be that he brought the wrong cars to this type of auction. 10% fee is insane though, and even $300 to run it once is pretty crazy, the transporting fees to get the cars there is also piling up.

Craig you know someone was doing their own version of Tokyo drift with your Skyline and blew the drive shaft out…that’s likely why there were foot marks on the dash as some was rolling around in the passenger seat. Sort out the MB and it will sell for decent money locally when the spring comes. I enjoy your channel and content…however your Mecum series has given me trust issues as I always thought Mecum cars were “better”…and they ran your untested stinkers…if I’m to be honest that changed my opinion of them and their cars…I certainly won’t be bidding on any vehicle that I have not inspected.

When you load the car into the trailer, if the car rolls backwards on the ramp while the driver dumps the clutch, it could make it pop out, since the splines isn't lining up, hard to explain for a Swede. xd
Also, you should put some air tags on your cars, that way you don't need to guess.

Exact same thing happened to my Fiero GT. But mine was the center part of the clutch plate broke away from the clutch disk. So it was doing everything it was supoosed to be doing but because that sperated itself the center was spinning like it should & going through the gears the outside of it wasnt moving. New clutch kit you will be good. Mine came apart right after i pulled out of my driveway. Got to stop sign 50 feet away. Still in 1st gear I let the clutch out and motor just rev'd. You can push it in gear with motor off too. 🤣

I know guys who put expensive stuff in auctions. They airtag it ALL. The items are theirs. They need to be able to keep their eye on their property. Mecum is a losing proposition unless you have high dollar or high demand vehicles. Barrett Jackson will be the same deal. I really think you need to pool all your friends together and start an auction house in NH or MASS. And put a metallic wrap on that Benz. That's a total rich kids grad car if I ever saw one.

@wendwllhickey6426 there's one guy making over 15% at the auction. That's the auctioneer and it's usually 15% of a really big number. Barrett Jackson broke half a billion dollars in (conditional) sales last year at their biggest show.

So the axle might pop out from cornering too hard or maybe someone trying to spin the wheels. But all you have to do is pop it back in. That is very reassuring. Can I push hard on the brakes hard or that or something else pop out?
But when I went to a Mecum auction 20years ago, sketchy cars and sketchy people were aplenty.
