BSA Defiant ...a slightly different conclusion to the rest. We also look at another Classic.

- The incompetence knows no bounds.. We completely forgot to review the BSA Defiant so I guess you could call this bonus content. Why is our review different to the other channels ..We are as confused as you will be...

I’ve got the R10 in .177 and a Daystate Regal HR . However I find that my Defiant in .177 knocks spots off both of them . The trigger is incredible with absolutely no creep whatsoever. Also very easy to strip and work on .
Love this show could watch you two for hours! proper honest reviews keep it up chaps.
Thank you to all involved in making this absolutely wonderful show.
You guys are great we like watching your videos. I think the defiant looks pretty decent seems pretty pricey for all the negatives. Thanks for good videos guys.
It's good to hear an honest review. As for fac air rifles. An fac air rifle is a lot easier to get and its nothing like a powder burner 303. I personally would swap my ,22lr for a simmilar powered air rifle but the technology and ammo are not there yet. Great show
Oh please put a mat on your desk for the sake of the guns , I cringe every time one is bumped off it or laid down on it 🙈
We have already ordered one, but no Airguns were harmed in the making of this video :)
It sounds like indeed the reg is set too low, and that’s why it hammer bounces in sub12 and .22 you have to restrict the Tp and set the reg higher. That will increase the shotcount and will limit the power at low pressure
Well done again gents ! 👍🏿Great general knowledge of the industry
Met Tony at the South Yorkshire Gamefair. Top bloke and really interesting to talk too.
Entertaining as ever guys, keep them coming
I broughht as my first pre charge, over 30 years ago a Daystate LR 90, new, i ordered it from a gun shop. Great gun for something that was so basic. 25 odd years later the trigger went west. First port of call was Daystate, they as good as said "Tough, stict it where the sun don't shine as we couldn't give a monkeys" Now i can still get spares for a 100 year old BSA!! but Datstate aint interested. Never looked at any Daystate since & all my mates wouldn't have one of them either. I have moved up to Steyr, UK Steyr are a dream to deal with you couldn't wish for a better service.
Just wondered if u could review the new brocock compatto sniper HR as I am thinking of buying one thanks
Yes, we can try and do it in the next episode :)
What a cool vintage Daystate! I feel fortunate to have a left hand Daystate Harrier SE (.22, 25FPE), certainly not a gun you see around every corner. It would be great to hear about this gun's place in Daystate history, as well as why they chose to discontinue this more affordable model.
the harrier se was daystates first outing with stock maestro gary cane, the tube was hard chrome plated -borrowed from a bearing shaft being made elsewhere in the then parent company. it had a job to do and that was to keep sales going while the company developed the MK3. The Harrier SE and the slightly later PH6 SE were a great success and without them daystate would not be here today. It was replaced as demand for the new gary cane Mk3 stock meant he could not keep up with demand and the harrier (now harrier X) had to switch back to custom stock.
If the noise from the rear is a ringing noise tony . it could well be the sound of the reg filling . being as you head is along side the reg . you can hear it filling through the stock . i can on my pupped Anschutz .
waching this in 2021, love your honest i will be looking to get a AGT this year any thoughts on them from you all.
Thanks Les. AGT are probably the most reliable and highly thought of range of airguns at the moment. We love them and more importantly, our customers do . I had a Uragan last year and it was probably the best air rifle I have ever owned, although the Kalibrgun and Air maks stuff is just as fantastic :)
I don't like how high a scope is mounted on the defiants in relation to the barrel. It looks weird and must be a pain with trajectory on closer shots. There's like a 3" gap between centre of scope and barrel.
Yes and canting the rifle even by the smallest amount would play havoc at ranges beyond 15 yards, not good for shooting live quarry or for novices starting out.
Great reviews...great show well done..
Good review of the Defiant guys
Great show as usual the defiant has been recalled due to leaking with a dodgy seal. Nice to see you at Doncaster, next time if your not busy I'll be brave and ask for a photo.
James Conway Please do!
If they have recalled them they forgot to tell the dealers...
A great show guys, has set me up for the rest of the day, the Sig 1911 is superb,is on my 'want list' i saw the defiant at the Northern Shooting show in May & i thought it looked great in the Black Pepper stock, not so much in the Walnut, but you are right at a Grand+ is far too expensive, especially when you could have the FX Wildcat for similar money,in respect of the silencer & shroud on the Defiant,i believe it's the same as the Ultra CCS,i have a Ultra Cayenne with the same set up, which i have removed & put a Belita silencer on,there is nothing in the BSA silencer, which is a bit of a poor do,but hey ho.
Am dusappointed the Defiant silencer's empty, when it was reviewed by Terry in Airgun World he said it was a VC (variable choke) version, which shouldn't just be an empty tube.
Hi Russ, the silencer on my Ultra is listed as a BSA VC moderator, but there's definitely nowt in it,the cheapskates!!!
Looking forward to the Parker Hale Dragon.
Tony , I would love to know if you could only have one pcp for general shooting which make and model would it be, and why. Regards Chris .
I have a 2005 Daystate MK3 which just fits me, is super accurate and importantly i'm very familiar with it. The MK3 is an all time classic. As for new stuff, ive been shooting a Brocock Bantam Sniper which is a great all rounder, short light and fast handling.
Great show. Guys On the Remington 1911 barrel comes out think K W C make the Remington
Great job as always! 👍🏻🎉
great show loving it, keep it up lads :)
Whenever I look at BSA rifles I think the trigger guard looks wrong. That rounded shape makes me cringe - it should have some angularity to it.
Great video as usual. So, so disappointed in the BSA Defiant, I’m a BSA fan having got three of their guns but I think they need to improve the bullpup before I would think of buying one!
Who in their right mind would buy a Defiant when you could have a Wildcat MK2 for less than a hundred quid more??? Not my cup of tea.. still, it couldnt possibly be any uglier than the Ultra XL! Even David Blunkett would say that things a dog 😂.. would love to see weihrauch have an attempt at a bullpup in the near future.. love your honesty as always guys 👍
Well...It depends on which reviews you believe... But you are right , Wildcat is another league and in my opinion the RTI Priest is superb and a shit load cheaper too :)
Sorry Paul, I don't understand what you mean .
The BSA Ultra XL, not only is it ugly but it's a bit of an oddball concept too in my view. Why market a rifle as a lengthened carbine? It seems contradictory. I think a thumb-hole stock option for the Scorpion SE and the Ultra SE might have been a better idea. Rather than the Ultra XL, BSA could market a deluxe (perhaps regulated) thumb-hole variant of the Scorpion and call it 'Scorpion R' or 'Scorpion TH' or similar.
Weihrauch must have been keeping an ear to the ground regarding these bullpup development ideas - cue the HW100BP.
I bought one before this review! I think that gun has a few issues although I would definitely agree about the moderator, rubbish. Can you recommend a moderator that would fit snugly?
I got the grey laminate which looks a much nicer stock than the walnut.
Agree about the laminate, looks miles better. Not sure who does a silencer for it sorry . Try A&M custom amcustomgunsmiths.com/ Or Andrew Huggett
Can you get a Diana sp50. I'd love to see one again as it was responsible for me being surrounded by the SPG, back in the early eighties. It was my poor dad who got the lecture.
When I was a kiddie for few a days I slept with mine under my pillow. I pretended the barrel was a 'suppressor'. It stopped when mum found out what I was doing. :(
Getting hard to find but I will track one down :)
Wonder how it shoots with helium
Squeakily ?
My first proper FT rifle was a huntsman mk1 ft with the brass swan neck bolt, damn heavy but beautifully made.
I didn’t like daystate once they switched to blacked alloy.
i would like to have seen the defiant with a carbon bottle, which would have lowered the weight and really upped the shot count, the shroud and silencer look good but if not great a redesign is required, all in all a decent enough looking gun but the chance to move things forward bsa seems to have been missed.the pulsar was very marmite when it came out but went on to be a good seller due to accuracy and quality.
Daystate FTR custom was a rifle I lusted after back then ☺.
Just remembered first time I saw one for sale was at a home countries FT shoot at Birmingham. If I mind right Daystate and Venom shared a tent.
Hammy H that would have been packington park near meriden. Daystate showing a venom bull pup, with air arms, titan and webley were on that tent
@@TonyBelas ah I forgot Titan were there too. I think I still have the Daystate promotional material from then too.
I do remember I was shooting a HW77 in .22 then with a Kassnar 3-9x40 .
I shot a .177 Hw77 with Venom laser tune and a 4x40 tasco. But I ordered a Daystate Venom Bull Pup at the show, though it took about 6 months to arrive - I still have it and brought it on the first show.
Could you guys reveiw the Hw110 Carbine please
We will as soon as they come into the country :)
I love these videos! But I'm pretty sure the barrel will also come out of the SIG.
i really tried. it had two recoil springs the one around the barrel off a 1911 and a second spring a la browning high power. even with both removed I couldn't get it out and I'm quite familiar with both designs. but everything was very tight, probably to keep it accurate, airguns need tight tolerances and this is a 100 year old military pistol design.
The first thing that jumped out at me (in a bad way) about that defiant is that flat rear part of the stock. It doesn't fit the rest of the stock's curves.
Like having a jet fighter with a truck cab as the cockpit.
funny thing is i still got one and i love it
Can you do an honest review of the Walther Rm8 varmint, is it regulated etc? Thanks.
The RM8 isn't regulated , and yes we will try and do a review soon.
Armex are now saying it is regulated.
I have checked and it is evidently now regulated. This might not what you want to hear but the guns performance doesn't suggest it is . Its a good gun for the money but its not in the same league as a properly regulated gun .
The price for this is totally daft. BSA have got too confident after their deserved success with the R10 in my view.
Really enjoyed your review of the BSA Defiant. Such a shame that this type of open and honest review is such a rarity on YT gun channels. Keep up the good work chaps. 👍👍
great show again!! i love the humor. good thing being honest about the rifles. i own a bsa ultra and love it. too bad the defiant is not up to par and way to expensive. there are better bullpups for that price. could you get the new Kral Nemesis on the table and give it a spin?
Love the show but not sure on your Defiant revue 🤔. I have it in black pepper in 22 and it performs well. It is a marmite gun but like most things in life we all can’t agree. Put it this way my Wildcat Mk2 returned back for 4th time and Defiant 0 times. Thought the idea was to shoot not spend most of its life in transit. Keep up the show guys and love a bit more on the Leishy 👍
Another great video gents, lots of laughs and you certainly don't try to polish a jobbie. :o)
I was very interested to see what you thought of the Defiant: so pluses =
* it's accurate, and vaguely resembles a Wildcat inc' the cocking lever position.
Minuses =
* it weighs 9lb (incidentally 50% more than a Wildcat), has a useless silencer and a very creepy trigger... consider me unimpressed. :o(
Thanks again guys... next? :o) R
Really looking forward to the PH dragon ... had a few over the years and still have an FT and sporter version .
Also as commented ..... zbroia kozak. .. well worth a look and getting a good following and rave reviews from owners .. including me
have TWO dragons coming from Bob along with the Saxon and FF. Ive played with a couple of Zbroia at Solware and liked them, but as I understand it the importer has given up with them and quality is a bit up and down?
@@TonyBelas main importer now is pellpax as far as I know .. sureshot did import but don't know the ins and outs 100% to quote openly
That horrible looking trigger guard
I know . Its a minger :(
Has it got 20moa in the rail?
Why do all bullpup airguns have that stupid strut to the bottom of the pistol grip? OK so that part will be cross grained and thus weak, but they do it on the synthetic stocks too.
Nice video..
It does look old. BSA did miss the mark. Thank you for the video. For 260 dollars you can get a Gamo coyote or the BSA Buccaneer SE.
Just tried to order a daystate huntsman hr .20 through a dealer daystate said they are not doing .20 any more . Daystate loss look like a hw then
Personally I love it but it does have that mechanical twang you mention.
And i thought Tony was going to try and field strip the BSA. Yes the BSA is heavy and if it is a new gun then with their recors there may be some teathing problems as it was with the R10 Mk1, they should realy fix them first by sending prototypes out to you guys to play with and give feedback.
You would be surprised how many air rifle manufacturers never speak to dealers about R&D, prototypes or actually anything at all .
A fair few covenants restrict the use of firearms except for air powered weapons.
The big bore air rifles are great in this situation as they sneak in through the back door even if you do need an FAC.
BSA Defiant: Short, extremely accurate, great cocking handle, reliable.......This is why we hate it...WTF!😎😎😎
love to see the webley pistols 👍
Spot-on review of the Defiant. Can't match a Wildcat, nor even a Compatto semi-bullpup in terms of value for money. why buy a Defiant? Secondly, FAC airguns and licencing. If air gun licencing was introduced, then I would be happy to get a licence provided it allowed air rifles up to say 24 or 30 ft/lb, with FAC for true powder burners or more powerful air rifles beyond that limit.
That defiant is never worth the sort of money they are asking for it ,,, blimey ,, cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Well done chaps on the defiant review, honest and truthful, bsa should have done a better job of it, 👍
Could you possibly be the new Ant and Dec of the airgun world Lloyd and Tony lol. I am with you about the price of the Defiant, should be at least 200 quid cheaper and I don't care about the tooling etc they should be looking at the competition to steal their customers, not make people run to them. it is after all a glorified Ultra with a cocking lever set forward and dropped in a bullpup stock, so is it the idea we are paying for or what, moan over, loved the show guys very refreshing to see two comedic nut jobs talking my favourite subject !! atb phil.
The main problem is that FX make the wildcat and it’s in the same price range 😂👍 also I think I’ve seen one of the angels using one in my church’s stained glass windows 🤣🤣🤣
Very true , and the Wildcat is the most reliable FX we sell too.
i asked BSA over 2 years ago about making a bullpup .. their responce was priceless they said .. we are leaders not followers ... then this thing turns up which is oveweight overpriced an from the one i shot as accurate as a caterpault ...
i have the defiant in black pepper and i must say it shoots bloody good and looks good yes it is more expensive but it shouldnt be slagged off by people who have not had a day out with a gun not every 1 is gonna like the same things each to their own i say
We think the trigger is poor, they are too heavy and too expensive and the silencer doesn't work. We have also now shot them and gathered feedback from customers who have tried one and we completely stand by our criticisms . Looks are personal but obvious things like poor triggers aren't and it would be wrong for us not to point this out to our viewers.
Jeez Lloyd you said thats ugly and you bought a priest. 😂
The Priest is beautiful..you heathen !! ;)
@@hotair4269lmao 😂
Defiant: I like 70s style woodwork, so that isn't a problem. And I liked the weight too, but I don't hunt. But I haven't had chance to actually fire one. Probably won't now. :(
Goes to FX site to look at their bullpup... :(
Fx's Wildcat is the best in their range , brilliant gun . We will also be showing the Edgun Matador on our next vid. Now that is different !
Hot Air
Can't wait for that!
I've had a mk1 Wildcat for two years and love it, handled a mk2 last week and am amazed they really have made it feel even better!
Downside is I get a sore neck after shooting it, but not everyone has my physical issues.
I am on campaign to build my upper body strength because of 'issues' too. One of the reasons why I have taken to shooting again; it is sort of a measure for me how much progress I have made.
It must be awkward for you as a retailer to review a product from a major manufacturer and not like it. Well done you for being honest and open; I am sure BSA would rather have that from a respected voice in the community than as some prominent voices seem to do even in the UK's tiny gun market and just say everything is great. I really liked the feel and look of it when I had hold of it in the shop; also being a BSA owner it would have been convenient because of mags etc. Thanks for replying.
Looks like it's a Blake Seven Air powered laser gun
The bsa defiant looks like my chair .
You two together have quite a bit of knowledge, all the best Lloyd and Tony.
That BSA is fucking horrible lol.
thanks and well put
Not a fan of the bsa at all .
But then again I think all pcp ( higher end) rifles are just to expensive now ,
I am daft enough to pay the prices however I think 1400. Should be the price of a fx impact /crown and like wise .
Should be called Sig Sour as that's the taste you get when you realise you wasted money then you bring it in to trade (coz most the ones I've seen 3/4 was poo) And get robbed again even when the trade in gun was a replacement brand new unopened box (which you had to wait months for after paying for a brand New gun which broke after a few days use ).It's not playin fair just my two peneth.
lol @ 1911 field strip attempt.
The two of you are great, as is the format of the show, but content shifted and is less interesting to me (I am indifferent to old guns, bb or pistols). I did like the review of the BSA, if anything, you should probably have reached out to BSA prior to the show to determine if the issue is the model (relevant) or sample (semi-irrelevant as warranty should square you away, and quality issues is hopefully transient).
Thanks Allan. As for reaching out to BSA , yes we could of but it turns out after further checking, all the guns we have tried are the same , and when I mentioned it to Tony on the show he also confirmed the others from a different retailer were the same so we are confident the trigger and sound issues are standard to this model.
Thanks for checking and following up!
Great vid again, that defiant looks ugly, the cylinder looks out of place i think the r10 bottle or a carbon fiber bottle on the front might improve its looks a bit and help the shot count, it just looks like a deformed scorpion with an boring stock, sorry bsa but its a no from me oh put a proper silencer on it!
I think thy tried to copy it off the wildcat, and got it wrong big time,
If you want a guy on that really knows his air pistols ask jim daly on he runs air rifle and air pistol enthusiasts on facebook
I think I’d rather have a p15 at under £500 and have a boring looking gun.
I bought an SMK P10 before I bought my Wildcat (mk1).
I got a duff gun and eventually gave it back, as it was still leaking after several repairs. :o(
@@russdouglasagw8151 I have a P15 and it's not been a problem.
You got what you paid-for, I didn't.
It's a good little rifle. Better shot count then the bsa as well..
That wouldn't be too difficult.
we the people is a lousy name ,
nicew ork fellas but.. this format is non-exciting. Two guys chatting up the guns, dulls-ville hep cat
Put carpet on the desktop for god's sake.Im cringing watching the show.🙄
