Did the 2023 WW Digi DX contest as a rookie (haven't done a lot of FT8/FT4). Managed to get 169 contacts (on six continents) plus I guess they figure distance and 75 multipliers. Before mileage, that's 12,675 points. We'll see where it lands me. Thanks for introducing me to this contest and the helpful hints. Cliff Black K4JIP.
WSJT-X v 2.6.1 - please update if needed! Thanks Tom for making a more current video - There have been quite a few changes in the WSJT-X software. Please consider the below as an example. Oh, there is also a question. For any contest or DXPedition etc. In the WSJT-X Software, I make a new "Configuration". In the main screen, click Configurations (to the right of File), cursor down to my main configuration, hover, and clone. This will give you a new configuration file that you can rename, remove and add frequencies, adjust into contest mode etc. It is a good way to keep a completely separate setup for any special operating conditions. I like to delete the routine frequencies so I am only playing in the recommended band areas. NOW, for a question - File, Settings, Advanced will give you access to the Special Operating Activity area. This is where you select the special contest, event or say fox and hound for DXPeditions. For this, the WW Digi contest, can anyone find a name that we need to use in the Contest Name: field? Thanks! and 73 de W5CSM
This contest is very fun especially with the distance points. I don't quite understand why you are changing the FT8 frequencies? You can leave WSJT alone and just spin the dial on the radio to incorporate the "recommended" FT8 /FT4 contest frequencies. More than one way I suppose....
I found a lot of people on the "regular bands" didn't know what was going on. I worked the suggested bands (contest organizer suggestion, not Tom's) till they ran dry, then jumped on the regular bands. Had some time-consuming issues getting the QSO completed. K4JIP
I am a fairly new ham. I've never done a digi contest. I know that N3FJP contest software warns about duplicate contacts during SSB contests. How do dups work in digi? Do I have to manually delete or does the contest website take care of that?
I always just work my dupes. There’s no penalty attached, so no affect to your final score. Make sure you have your colors set so you can see at a glance if you’ve worked them or not, but if they call you, just work them. It’s all part of the game..

Thank you for this Tom! I think I'll give this event a try this year. :) W1RCY
