I've heard that HDMI requires licensing to use on each model of equipment, and apparently the fee is a bit stiff, being prohibitive if your not producing product at the quantity levels of TV's. You can find DVI to HDMI adapter cables online for under $10 US for using a HDMI monitor or TV with your rig. 73, mike
Unfortunately, those hdmi adapters draw excessive current from your rig, which will blow an smt fuse in your radio. Yaesu will not fix this under warranty! I’ll be putting out a video on connecting an external monitor where I’ll go more in depth on this issue.
Since I own the 991A, DX-10 and the Alinco DX-9 I can say that in my personal opinion after having played with the 7300 at the Delaware HRO before buying my 991A I have to say that the order for me which includes superiority of complete unit is as follows: #1-Yaesu DX-10 | #2-Yaesu 991A | #3-Alinco DX-9 (SDR unit with removable head) | #4-Icom 7300. Yes, I feel the alinco is a bit better than the 7300 even without it having a graphic display but is in the category since it has free SDR software and it works very well thru my PC. I also have the President Lincoln 2+ which just sits under the top shelve and adds to the background.
I have a dx-10 and 710 and love them both. I agree about the dvi port. I read somwhere that hdmi is a proprietary interface and would cost a licensing fee to add to other producers devices. Maybe that's why but it's pretty lame for what quality radios already cost. Thanks for the great videos.
Great comparison! How do they compare on noise? I have a 7300 and the fan, when it runs is rather loud, and the T/R relays are also, particularly on CW.
The 991A has a relatively quiet fan, but still uses mechanical relays that you can hear clicking. The 710, dx10, and the DX 101mp (which I bought after this video) are whisper quiet and I suspect they use solid state relays.

The 991A is the oldest and least technologically advanced. My favorite of the group is the IC-7300 but that is my opinion and it changes on a weekly basis. You would enjoy any of them, and if you opt for something other than the 991A, you can purchase a mobile VHF/UHF rig to make up the difference.
Which do and which not have backlit buttons? I don’t think you mentioned that. I have an ft-991a and the backlit buttons feature makes it useable when camping.

Great recap! Can you comment on if each rig has a tuner or not and if so rank them as to how well those work on each rig?
All of these rigs have internal tuners, and the IC-7300 (IMO) has the best tuner of all of them
I would like the 710 because of the dvi to use a large monitor, can you connect a SDR to a 991A to use a monitor?
You can add an aftermarket panadapter to this rig, but you should feel comfortable with opening the case and making internal adjustments…

My 891 is in my vehicle with an ATAS120 antenna…. Helps pass the time on the road. But great rig in the car or in the shack
