Awesome video once again Tom. You always give awesome step by step instructions in a slow and precise manner. Some of these videos others put out on RUclips, They end up rambling way to much and end up explaining things at to fast of pace & jumping around to much instead of a methodical step by step approach which you always do which is easy to follow. Thanks for all you do, I am getting ready to pull the trigger on Yaesu FT-DX10 and looking forward to more of your videos on setting it up for Digital modes, especially FT8 with the DX10 & WSJT-X. 73 KV5O
The next video is the dx10 WSJT-x set up. Got the outline sketched out and just need to set up the camera…. Something to look forward to…. 73
Thanks so much for your video. I unexpectedly ran into a gently used still under warranty year old Yaesu FTdx10 for what I consider a great deal. It should be here in a few days. The rub is I’m a new HAM so drinking out a firehose here 🤦🏻♂️ 😂. I was hoping to find a step by step series of videos that walks me through everything. I was very happy to see this video. I’ll watch and rewatch it.
No problem. You may want to also check out N4HNH’s series on the DX10 …. He’s a bit further along the curve from me…. 73
@@ND3N will do, I’m going to be doing a lot of cramming before she arrives but it’s exciting. I couldn’t find your recommended stylus in the notes. Do you mind sharing what you purchased? I’ll have them ready when the new family addition arrives. Thanks again! KE8YSI-Lonnie
It's in the video description, but here ya go... amzn.to/3PdxZEC
Just don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Baby steps... Set a goal to learn one thing about your rig every week and before you know it, you'll be the expert...
That’s what I did. First radio was a ftm500 in my work car. Installed it in April and still trying to figure out ysf and wires-x. Then I jumped in the fire with both feet and got a ftdx10 for the shack. Problem is I’ve had ftdx10 for five months and it still needs to be hooked up. Been working too much and the fun stuff has to wait.
Great you installed drivers and changed radio setting and MAGICLY the radio talk to the PC with out covering plugging in cords. Not one cord was seen.
Well, there was the usb cable…
@@ND3N In the instruction manual, yes. I found what I was after in a different video and manual. Your video was helpful too. 73
So very helpful today. I've been stuck for MONTHS trying to restore my sound devices and get FT8 working again and this video did the trick. Can't thank you enough! 73, Mike ND9X
Glad it helped!
Just ordered my FT-DX10 and watched your video ,will do these steps when radio arrives for sure , thanks for the info ,regards William 2I0WMN Northern Ireland
Hope you enjoy it!
@@ND3N Hi Tom yes thank you , Radio arrived and i did all you said setting up ,all working well , really impressed with the radio ,only thing im struggling with is setting it up for FT8 using MSHV 64-BIT softwear , thanks again
William 2I0WMN
Thanks a lot, Tom, for detailed yet compact video with all we need to master this great rig! Have the best QSOs and 73!
You are welcome!
Thanks Tom! I am setting up the FTDX10 and will do these steps first. All makes sense!
Excellent!
Christmas joy in the form of the FTdx10 ! This series is a big help. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Hi Tom! Thanks for the helpful video to get my new DX10 up and going - 73 from W8CBG in Columbus, OH!
Glad to help!
Thanks, very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
At 4:30 you tell us to look at the ports menu (com and LPT) and you say to make note of the com ports. I see only one com port. COULD that be that I don't have the computer hooked up to the radio? And if I do hook the radio to the computer, I will SEE these com ports?
Yes.
@@ND3N Hey Tom, Got a new FTDX 10 arriving tomorrow. Hoping all goes well and that the FT8/4 will be up and running. Live in an HOA and have a Palomar OCF/dipole up across a couple of palms. Thanks for the info...de KQ1K
very helpful video Tom thanks.. 73
Very welcome
What a neat video! Still watching, but am at the section on downloading drivers onto a Windows PC. I looked through all the comments and didn’t see anything about doing this on a Mac. Am I out of luck?
I know Mac users who have done it, but I’m a windows guy, so haven’t …. Recommend you look for a dx10 Mac user group. I’m sure they can point you in the right direction. Given what I know about Mac’s, it might be even simpler than this…
How is the audio? I am selling an FT-891 because I just haven't been able to get the audio right, it's too tinny.
I’m actually getting ready to release a video on setting the DSP equalizers. Should be posted early next week
4:43 Hello, I did the install but the Com Ports you mention are NOT on my device manager. Does it matter that my computer is a 64bit design? Or do I need to connect the radio for them to show up?
With your device manager open and the ports tab up, unplug the usb cable from your rig - reinstall the drivers - then plug it back in. Your port numbers will probably be different than mine as they are dynamically assigned by your computer. Let me know if this resolves your problem
@@ND3N then my suspicion is correct, they don’t get assigned until the rig is hooked up the first time. I will do that when I get home, thanks a million for the video and answers.
PS: I bought this rig used, is there any way, through the computer or otherwise, to copy the changes the previous owner made along the way before I got it just in case they worked better than my “final” adjustments?
Thanks for your informative video. My FT-DX10 should arrive in a couple days, so I've bookmarked this video. Any recommendations on an antenna? I have a 12x10 shed that I'm converting to a Radio Shack in my backyard. My yard is has a few trees (20-50ft) and is a sm/med size yard....approx 80x75ft. I open to buying or building the antenna.
I would recommend the GAP Titan as a good vertical antenna, but with trees in your yard, a multiband dipole would work nicely.
Hi Tom! Since you have both the FTDX10 and 991A, how much better is SSB receive and clarity over the 991A? I am really thinking of upgrading as I have a separate UFH/VHF radio I can use now.
The difference is night and day. About the same with the FT-710, but my best, and most recent addition- FTDX101MP blows all of them out of the water. In short, I think you would be happy with the DX10…
Thanks for that. One quick question - if you are a few updates behind, do you just need to do the latest update or all the missed ones ?
Just use the latest update and you’ll be fine
Tom, I’ve worked through the settings and cannot get CAT to function. The audio settings work fine. I’ve tried it with two different PCs with the same result. Any suggestions? KR4VT
let me watch that video again with my dx10 and see if I forgot to include anything. I’ll get back to you in a day or so.
Tom, I fooled around with the settings and go it working by changing the WSJT handshake to Hardware. All other settings are the same as you provided. Works now on both PCs. I’m not tech savvy enough to know what that means. TNX, KR4VT
I’m totally new to the Dx-10, how do you get your menu not to disappear in 2seconds?
Your videos are always very consice. You leave out no steps. Don't find too many "Old Codgers" with your tech savy. Don't take offence, as I'm an Old Codger as well 74 ;-)
I appreciate that!
Thank you Tom. Your video was very helpful for setting up my new FT-dx10. I'll be listening for you on the air. 73! de N4ZOO
It was my pleasure. If you hear me OTA, give me a shout…. 73 de Tom, ND3N
Why do peaple like this make the same old vidios and the same old stuff others did years ago..😂
Because things change and because people are still watching them.
