I’m sorry you had to go through all that. As the only other person besides Jim Hensley himself with 30 years of experience with the design, and an actual engineer, it makes my blood kind of boil seeing such an easy thing to avoid from a manufacturing and design standpoint. The world needs more professional pride in their work. 😉
Thank you so much for the reply and sub. Beyond frustrating is putting it mildly. We did love the hitch when it worked. We were grateful we weren't going 65 miles down the highway with a semi behind us. That would have been catastrophic. Other issues are the policing of the internet and the zero response from anyone other than the "one guy". Most likely will try a Propride. Just not ready to throw down that chunk of change.
I haven't had the Hensley Arrow, but I have the Pro-Pride 1400 lb. and have close to 10,000 miles on it pulling a 37 foot travel trailer the last 3 years. I've been very happy with it. I would buy it again.
We have loved our Hensley for many years. It's a very safe hitch, and drive-wise I would give it the top rating of anything I have towed with and compared over the years. The welds on my unit and stinger are beautifully done, but it is an older unit and a 2" drop. Maybe with a large drop, bolts could be added?
Thank you for the response. Yes, we believe that the older models are very reliable. We still think the combination of the new welds and the 4" drop are the cause of the issue.
Wow I just watched your story. It’s truly incredible and lucky that you are both safe. I’m so glad I went with propride. Its is fantastic. And hope you do purchase one and your faith will be restored in the new and improved design. I love it!
We purchased a ProPride years ago after comparing the two. No issues at all. Totally worth the investment for us, and we loved the improvements they have made to the design. Great customer service as well. So sorry this happened to you. Scary and sad that Hensley has been so shady and were obviously sending out the ones with the bad stingers after they knew about it.
Thank you. Yes, we would be willing to give Pro Pride a shot. Yes, we encourage people who have had safety issues with Hensley to report it to NHTSA. Safe travels!
James Morrison is the owner of Hensley Hitches. He is an entrepreneur who had a few different companies. He also owns "Tow Safe, LLC" and that company is the one that actually acquired Hensley.
@@OnRappel thank you, yes we found out he was the owner of the company. It must be a small company, if he is the only "supervisor", and if it is that small, we would have thought our circumstances would have a warranted a response from him.
After 6 yrs in a 5th wheel we contemplating a move back to travel trailer. This is very valuable information conveyed in an honest way. I've used the Equalizer and wasn't to wild about the noise when maneuvering in the campgrounds. Have you looked at the Andersen WD hitch? Thankyou.
Thanks for the response. A 5th wheel is in our future, but not for several more years. We haven't looked at the Andersen, but certainly will. Yes our Equalizer is noisy. Thank you.
Our family has 3 Hensleys and 1 propride... all are perfect... safest hitch out there bar none... something has happened to quality control... they better recall those stingers before someone gets hurt....
Thanks for the response. Agreed. We hope the investigation by the NHTSA will find something. They asked us a lot of questions. Glad you have the good ones!
@dustytrailsrvn6281 If you're interested propride makes an adjustable stinger bar for the Hensley Arrow... check the website... I'm surprised Sean Woodruff didn't mention it lol... its a beefy piece of equipment...
I looked at both those options, but they were both out of my budget. I settled upon a Weigh Safe True Tow Middleweight, still expensive but so far, no problems.
@@TIREDOFEVIL buy used there are some out there. The hitch you bought is not really comparable although they want you to believe it is. Costs less because it can’t actually eliminate sway.
I looked at that hitch and decided it was a full no-go about a year ago. The design of the stinger for drop hitches was exactly why I wouldn’t buy it. Way too much risk with the design from the weld integrity perspective. Way too many people believe because it’s expensive it must be good. Many other better options out there to choose from. Glad no one was hurt or worse.
I have 4 inch drop. I have used for 10,000 miles. Someone really messed up on yours! I couldn’t even find your post on Facebook maybe they scrubbed it.
