Looks pretty awesome, thanks for the tutorial! I might do this when the grip tape on my Dervish Sama has worn down (mud + snails + grip tape = ughh) =)
dude thats so tight! but it looks like a ton a work, or atleast the design u did! good job! but a really easy way to take previous black griptape off is to use a blow dryer and then just peal it off
Good video but you should sand the sides of the grip tape pieces at the edge of the board. It'll help the grip tape stick to the board and it gives it less chance to peel off over time
For all u newbies out there, u don't need a knife to get rid of overhang grip-tape after it sticks on. Rubbing the shaft of most metal tools against the side works just as well, and also has a smoother finish. Hope that helps some of u.
you can use a hair dryer to help take the grip tape off. just cut a sliver on the back of the board and heat up the grip tape from the sliver all the way up it helps make the adhesive softer and less sticky.
yes you can. but it cant be layer after layer. and you want to have someone that knows what theyre doing, spray it. to much layer will cover the grip and eventually youll feel like your standing on plastic. and you want to keep in mind. do you really want to spray your grip tape? if you are riding a lot, its going to wear out and go back to its original color. a good idea that would help, but keep your budget in mind. buy different colors of grip tape. have fun with your deck.
protip: Take a blow drier, and heat up the old grip tape on your board. The edges should start to peel up, and then you can very easily pull the tape up. Apply more heat when needed.
Hey there, I know this is an old video but I’m looking at doing a similar thing with my board. Was there any problems with pieces coming off or peeling at the corners?
is it better for the grip tape to be in small peices to reduce air bubbles and prevent over-stretching of the tape or is it easier to stick if its in peices?
is the board gunna get messed up in the rain or when it gets wet because you took off the finish on it? I notice my pintail has a sort of glaze on the bottom and and now after sanding off the clear grip parts of the wood will be exposed
quick tip: use a hair dryer to losen the adhesive when removing griptape
Holy hell dude! That's amazing! I'm going to try something similar once my longboard arrives. Good job
TIP: make sure the alchohal is dry before you put the grip tape
Hey, just want to say this is definetly one of the best instructional videos ive ever seen!
thanks so much it was really helpful
That looks insanely awesome. You're good at what you do.
good job man i think people don't realise how well done is your job.

Looks pretty awesome, thanks for the tutorial! I might do this when the grip tape on my Dervish Sama has worn down (mud + snails + grip tape = ughh) =)

dude thats so tight! but it looks like a ton a work, or atleast the design u did! good job! but a really easy way to take previous black griptape off is to use a blow dryer and then just peal it off
Matt, youre awesome... Im going to show all my longobarding friends this video (and the glove one bc that ones soo useful)!
I love how he does this inside
i'd also recommend folding that excess grip down around the edge of the board for grip for your shoes
Great video!! Concise but detailed.
beast design bro.
Good video but you should sand the sides of the grip tape pieces at the edge of the board. It'll help the grip tape stick to the board and it gives it less chance to peel off over time
My design is finished! Thanks
this was a really cool and helpful tutorial. thanks mate!
Cool i wanted to make my own. This helps a bunch
Agreed, I would have used the file trick for the edges though to get a smoother side rail.
For all u newbies out there, u don't need a knife to get rid of overhang grip-tape after it sticks on. Rubbing the shaft of most metal tools against the side works just as well, and also has a smoother finish. Hope that helps some of u.
Genius response.
you can use a hair dryer to help take the grip tape off. just cut a sliver on the back of the board and heat up the grip tape from the sliver all the way up it helps make the adhesive softer and less sticky.
cool design man!
Looks sick!

Good video dude. Nice and simple.
sick design and video
So how much peeling did you get on all those corners? Figure you'd have an answer by now.
Good design
Nice job ;)
Great vid very good instructions
what i would have done was left the spray on grip tape were it says "loaded" so you have grip all on the board
THANKS BRO
this has helped me allot
hey man nice vid! one tip that helped me but cost 5 dollars more and was quicker and easier.... i found that if you use heavy duty scissors its easier
Super helpful! Great vid! :)
How can people dislike this 'errgggg being productive! Dislike' my theory:3
hey sweet video! what model is this board? i really like the idea of changing your grip and making a custom design! nice job!
This is awesome I'm going to do this to my bustin mission
thats really sick
great video dude
keep making vids like this
Thanks man, really helped me :D
Would spray painting the grip tape a different color ruin it? Haven't tried yet just curious I'm new to this
yes you can. but it cant be layer after layer. and you want to have someone that knows what theyre doing, spray it. to much layer will cover the grip and eventually youll feel like your standing on plastic. and you want to keep in mind. do you really want to spray your grip tape? if you are riding a lot, its going to wear out and go back to its original color. a good idea that would help, but keep your budget in mind. buy different colors of grip tape. have fun with your deck.
Hi this is awesome. I was wondering if you had a place where I could get this design or how I could make it my self. Thanks
Of course!
most epic reply ever
wow bro thats really nice, does the grip tape have a special name? wat sort of grip tape should i get
protip: Take a blow drier, and heat up the old grip tape on your board. The edges should start to peel up, and then you can very easily pull the tape up. Apply more heat when needed.
Great video! But did you use an exacto knife on your kitchen table?!?! lol
Hey there, I know this is an old video but I’m looking at doing a similar thing with my board. Was there any problems with pieces coming off or peeling at the corners?
Shouldn't be but if it does happen use a bit of sand paper and run over the parts that are peeling I should smooth it out
looks good :)
very nice!
is it better for the grip tape to be in small peices to reduce air bubbles and prevent over-stretching of the tape or is it easier to stick if its in peices?
really nice, but it looked better on the thumbnail ... (still really impressive)
well done
Luuuuve ur griptape!
NICE N' SMOOTH. NICE AND CLEAN. XD
why did you sand the loaded part great work
Loaded boards have sprayed on Griptape correct?
SleptOn only the vanguard
just use a hair dryer to melt the sticky adhesive on the bottome of the tape and it will come off much easier :)
Use a blow dryer to help take off the griptape it helps heaps
Thumbs up if you think he should do a video of custom grip taping his pintail.
this way seems kind of difficult. but i guess it gets the job done
thats awsome
Nice vid!
Where can I find this pattern? I am not an artist
thats nice
Do you recommend something such as lucid grip over a design like this?
mother of griptape... :D like that
god job!
is the board gunna get messed up in the rain or when it gets wet because you took off the finish on it? I notice my pintail has a sort of glaze on the bottom and and now after sanding off the clear grip parts of the wood will be exposed
thx really cool
That is cool
Do you know how you could put like the loaded writing on the bottom of the griptape so you could see where the design would be around it?
he should have left the spray on grip tape where he didnt put the black so he would have grip tape on the whole bored and still have that cool design
could i ask how you lay the grip out so accurately? do you measure it or what?
did you use a ruler to make all those shapes? :P
can you make a video on how to make the design or can you post link where i can print out this design
nice!!
can you sand over the loaded logo? its badass... but i don't want to sand it off...
Nice
nice video
nice design, can i steal it for my dervish???
helpful
Nice Bro
I got spray on grip on my board right now maybe I'll do this when it wears out.
Is the longboard optional for this process?
How long did it take you to sand it down the spry on grip tape
Wow lot of hate here. Nice video man looks nice
