Sounds like the script is as much to blame as the voice actors. Just bad translation all around. 10/10 would switch to japanese.
tbh after that kingdom speech he made I cringe so hard along with my older brother and he told me to change the voice to Japanese fast which is waaay better.

Lofty’s sarcasm and “directness” is the best part of the game, and in one of the cut scene, the game dropped “spirited away” in their conversations.. so good
I like how right before they gave it the 8/10, they showed us a nice little spoiler of those two making their "Kingdom agreement". I mean, really Gamespot? What was the sense in that?

Was it turn based? I feel like it was more like Xenoblade in that there was an auto attack and abilities on cooldown. Or maybe closer to the ATB gauge system. Bit of a stretch calling it turn based

Pretty good detail in that review. The wording was elegant. I feel like most of the reviews say the negatives are "its childish and easy to beat". I feel like you accepted the game for what it was and criticised it on what parts could be expected to be better. We all know Studio Gibli makes chidish movies, but they do not always lack in character development and depth.

Anytime an JRPG shows anime-style cutscenes, I always dive into the game, expecting more.
The chibi style is a throwback to old jrpgs.
I love Ni No Kuni 2, but my biggest gripe with the game is that there’s no enough voice acting for the dialogue segments of the game. All and all it’s a fantastic game though

I just bought this game for $8 because of sonys end of the year sale! And wow the best $8 i have ever spent! This game is everything i love,building my own castle,RPG mechanics in large and small scale like ff7!! Powerups as you fight...so many puzzles that are challenging enough,overall this game caught me off guard and im in love with this masterpiece.
The first was a masterpiece which of course had me excited for the sequel but the addition of the kingdom builder and skirmishes kinda turns me off. Didn't know that was apart of the game.

As far as I know it's supposed to be like that. I was like "wtf" myself, but I read in some comment that in that scene it's basically him (a kid) addressing others publicly and being scared as hell while doing so, so that expalins his dry words.
Most japanese games nowadays have that voice option. Not just japanese, i've played thai, korean, indonesia games. And they have options for voice. Always choose to play in the original language for more authentic experience. XD

I've got to say after playing the game Evan's voice actor is without a doubt the worst out of the main cast. I'd personally say that Tani has the best voice in the game.

aristotle1021 In the first game i had to grind 10 fucking times for like 4 hours each time i grind it was terrible and normal enemies give jack shit for exp the only way to level up normally is to grind on tokos and them appearing is like what a 30% of appearing and most sidequests are the same shit and repetitive i ended up just skipping all of the sidequest’s text the only ones that are fun are the post game ones where you fight recolors of all the bosses again and even that is lazy as shit since they’re all just recolors in my opinion the first game had a hell of alot more flaws than the second game also i forgot to mention that esther didn’t get any fucking character development at all why are you ignoring all the flaws of the first one?

A 2D 10 hour pixelated platformer that almost resembles a metroidvania. With, not bad combat and decent platform mechanics but nothing out of the ordinary...9 out of 10. This beautifully animated RPG with loads of gameplay, unbelievable art style, awesome combat system, city building, epic boss encounters, ridiculous cut scenes, customisable characters, skill trees...pretty much everything a game is supposed to be, 8 out of 10 lol

Awesome combat system? Are you kidding, lol building based on smartphone gimmicks? All the characters shares the same skill tress, the cut scenes are nothing out of extraordinary, forgettable characters, etc.. This game is indeed a 8 out of 10. Don't know about the pixelated game you talked about, Dead Cells perhaps? Anyway, on it's genre, considering it's proposition.. ni no kuni is a 8 out of 10 game, an 8 is even too generous. To put in perspective, breath of the wild have similar rpg and combat elements, it is japanese and neither ni no kuni game even scratch botw.

At the beginning of the video it says it’s on Xbox One. I thought it was only on PC we PS4.
The enemy might in skirmishes confused me at first because I thought they would go down as you killed the enemies but they changed after reaching certain points in the skirmish. I also can't usually tell what is happening in them because off all the people. Everything after Goldpaw also felt different because it wasn't as heavily marketed. I also feel as if Leander should have had a different appearance at first because he just seemed totally out of place in the blue of Hydropolis.

Nice review, but the ending score doesn’t really reflect what you said. You had almost nothing negative to say, and it seemed like an easy 9 out of 10 game. An 8 is still great, but you made it sound a lot better.

The first game is good, it has aged so you have to look past some flaws. But it looks like the the biggest problems of the first game have been fixed with this one. :)

to be honest I think even those are garbage. Less garbage. But garbage in a different way. While the actors aren't bad, it completely devastated immersion in that game. You are in Japan with Japanese characters... Speaking English... And the pronunciation of Japanese words gets butchered sometimes. Them saying names feels completely weird. I'd rather listen to Japanese voices in a Japanese setting. In a "western" setting like the US or UK I'd always listen to English, unless its garbage. Metal Gear for example had a great English dub. If it's Fantasy I'll go for whichever sounds the best.

it get the feeling that it would be a 9 but the forced implementation of sub par mini games ( the kingdom building and an rts battle system) drag it down, plus add in that it has a weaker sound track that recycles alot from the first game and it's a bit too easy and i can see it going down from a 9 to an 8. it's still a must play for jrpg fans tho.
