    Porto is a favorite for many European tourists and me(Americano). I live about an hour away, great restaurants, old buildings, great vibe. Hope you enjoy your trip.

    Thanks for sharing an awesome video and experience while in Vila Nova de Gaia. Your beautiful energy transcends the video. I was in Porto & Gaia in March and did the 6-bridges tour over the Doura River. I will be returning in about a week. Thanks again for sharing. I’ve subscribed.

    Ok, so totally unbiased opinion (kidding, I live here in the center of Porto):
    Porto has some of the most beautiful hostels in world. Look it up.
    It`s a magical city. There`s something magic about it. Actually, this can be used to refer to any place in Portugal.
    As for the food, although it was fairly cheap, there are cheaper places. I can have a menu for 5-6€, not including dessert. With that, usually 10€.
    I hope you got the chance to see some of the best places like the (stunning) Lello Book shop (one of the most beautiful in the world), the inside of Palácio da Bolsa, the São Bento train Station azulejos (tiles) and much more.. oh and fun fact, in the very center (main square - Aliados) you can also find the world`s most beautiful McDonalds! Enjoy my town! :)

    Glad you had a great stay. I guess I am too old to stay at a hostel, and my wife would have shot me if I might have suggested. I saw our hotel from your shots. (Across the river in Porto.) suffice to say we paid slightly more than you for the invevse view. A wonder place. I hope you made it to the Duoro Valley, the other half of the Porto story. So gourgeos.

      lol, we don't want your wife to hurt you. they do have individual private rooms as well though! i did not make it to the duoro valley.. next time!

    Did you know that bridge is made by Eiffel? The same guy that made Eiffel Tower.

      I did know that!

    • @michaelw3090
      @michaelw3090 Год назад +2

      Actually, it was made by a discipel of Eiffel, not Eiffel himself... it is made using belgian steel.

    • @michaelw3090
      @michaelw3090 Год назад

      To be precise : the engineer that constructed the Ponte Luis 1 is called Theophile Seyrig. He was a belgian engineer that had worked before for Gustave Eiffel. Have a look at Wikipedia to have more info. I know, many people think the bridge is an Eiffel creation, but this is not correct. If you want to see an "original" Eiffel bridge, you can go to Viana de Castelo to see the bridge over the Lima river, connecting Viana to Darques (suburb of Viana). Many beautiful things to see in Portugal ! Have a nice day.

    15€ for a Prato do dia? Porto has become so expensive! I'm from Porto but now I live up north, close to the Gerês National Park and here, costs around 6/7€

    • @lauraundecided
      @lauraundecided  Год назад +1

      wow! really?! i thought that was a good price because in the US it would have been at least $30. Would it include soup, entree, wine and dessert for 6 euros?!

    • @Atimatimukti
      @Atimatimukti Год назад +2

      @@lauraundecided you forgot the coffee :-) . And yes, the price is around 7€ now since all the prices went up.
      But of course, not all restaurants have it like that.
      Porto has became a city for tourists...very expensive. And Ribeira, the area in Porto and Gaia with the river and the Port Wine boats is the most expensive

    • @Atimatimukti
      @Atimatimukti Год назад

      @@lauraundecided one more thing, nothing is cheap I'm Portugal if you work here. Think that most people will not make more than 1300€ a month and the minimum salary is 700€.

    • @lauraundecided
      @lauraundecided  Год назад +1

      @@Atimatimukti ha! i left out the coffee bc he didn't serve me any! but wow, seven euros is inexpensive for me but i do understand that it is not inexpensive for local portuguese who are getting lower wages. i didn't know that area was called Ribeira. It isn't cheap there though at all. Many restaurants were double and triple the price!

    • @Atimatimukti
      @Atimatimukti Год назад

      @@lauraundecided sorry, Ribeira means " the area on the banks.of a river" but it's how we call that area. But of course, each side has its own "freguesia" ( town).
      I thought that was the price already in Ribeira!!! I heard about the crazy prices in Porto and Lisbon but this is too much. I'm glad I left the city 9 years ago

    Hi Laura, I enjoyed watching your video; especially when you were in my backyard! I live in Gaia near the Jardim do Morro park. There was a moment at the end when you nearly cried and I know that feeling exactly because I have been brought to tears on the Gaia waterfront myself. It is indeed a magical place and I am so grateful to call this my home now. Thanks for sharing a bit of the beauty of Gaia and Porto. I hope you got to scamper and discover more of the beauty that is so abundant here!

    its only known as Oporto for english speakers and...heck if i understand why in spain. In fact we, Porto citizens, hate hear calling our city as Oporto. It`s PORTO. My advise, use Porto when speaking to us :) thank you and have the best of funs here

      True. But we Portuguese refer to Porto as "o Porto" in Portuguese, meaning the Port, of course. Perhaps the English and Spanish call the city Oporto because we call it o Porto? Será?
