      A year later this comment is truer than ever. Unfortunately for us.
      It’s a terrible film. But the ONE THING that resonated with me when I saw it years ago was the portrayal of the dissolution of our society.
      It seemed crazy. But just real enough to be scary.
      And now, here we are. Life imitating art.

      I loved the film, and know a good amount of people who do as well. There’s an article/review by Manohla Dargis from the NYTimes that you may like.
      If you Google “Apocalypse Soon: A Mushroom Cloud Doesn’t Stall 2008 Electioneering”, you’ll find it. It won’t let me add the link, but it should be one of the first links if you Google the above.
      I’ll add an excerpt that no one will most likely read, because it is the backbone for Dargis’s review, and one of the reasons I find Southland Tales to be an incredible (and funny) film - and why I’m still hoping it’ll start to be shown at midnight theaters to get the cult following it deserves.
      [excerpt]
      “American cinema is in the grip of a kind of moribund academicism, which helps explain why a fastidiously polished film like “No Country for Old Men” can receive such gushing praise from critics. “Southland Tales” isn’t as smooth and tightly tuned as “No Country,” a film I admire with few reservations. Even so, I would rather watch a young filmmaker like Mr. Kelly reach beyond the obvious, push past his and the audience’s comfort zones, than follow the example of the Coens and elegantly art-direct yet one more murder for your viewing pleasure and mine.”

    This film is way ahead of its time. I enjoy watching it. But there’s so many things I do not understand, I heard this is like 4 5 6, like Star Wars you know? I wish they did a 1 2 3 prequel or in order

    • @KittyKittyCupcake
      @KittyKittyCupcake 3 года назад +1

      The prequel are books, they catch you up to what is happening in the movie. They tried to summarize it in the first part of the movie but the books bring more clarity. Hope this helps ; )

    I don't know why I like it, but like many films, it's not so much a question of why, but rather that you like it, knowing that it's good for you to see it. Although, at the risk of sounding pedantic, it's not for everyone. In fact, the first time I saw it, I got angry 'cause I didn't understand it and therein lies the mistake, trying to make sense of it.

      Wave of Mutilation by the Pixies. There are actually two versions - both excellent. This one is the UK Surf version, there is also the original. It also appears in the movie Pump up the Volume with Christian Slater which I was where I first heard it many years ago.
