A movie doesn't have to make perfect sense to be a piece of art. I hate how people dislike Richard Kelly's films because they "don't get it" or "the story didn't make sense." It's so sad that the only thing people think a movie can be is just some story that entertains you for 2 hours. Why can't it be a piece of art that stays with you for years? Southland Tales doesn't make sense to me but I love it so much. I love that Richard Kelly's movies stay with you long after they're over.
Once you get to the point where you feel that everything around you in this society stops making sense, just like in this movie, you get the idea that you should forgive yourself for being you, just like you should forgive the other self. Life is a ride.Love is the only thing that is real. Enjoy your own movie.
You and otherselves are one, literally mirror of each other. Accept, forgive and love and you will not need anything you thought was so important and see that it was all there the whole time.
Loved this film... hope it eventually gets the huge recognition it deserves. So much of the same crap thrown out there over and over in the theaters. This film was a huge daring statement on so many issues in the US when it came out and still today. Might not have been a perfect film but it was definitely a piece of art. Acting was stellar at times, humorous, thought-provoking and so much more. Richard Kelley is far too ahead of the general population at this time.
Contender for the most underrated movie of all time, and definitely one of the best I’ve ever seen. Hope Kelly will eventually bless us with another vision of his, in whatever medium he wants
Same here, I had a tv recording of it but it got deleted, now I have bought the blu ray online, can’t wait for its delivery, can’t wait to watch it in HD
Sometimes my friend, it's not the money that matters. Dwayne is noted saying: "He felt he had something to prove to other actors and directors. That he's not just muscle and mild comedy, that you can give him a part and he can play it. Just give him a chance." Sometimes... it's all about paying yourself in pride.
This song by Moby and these scenes are a perfect match. Ira Te nixON summed it perfectly-“This is how the world ends, not with a whimper, but a bang.” Spot on! Just an unforgettable movie!
One of the best movies ever, when you come face to face with yourself you see everything. We never see our own faces, only in mirrors and ripples in water.
Love this movie, scene, and song! I wish that this song had played all the way through. In the movie I think it ends when Boxer fires the gun, it fits perfectly over the whole ending. Nicely done!
I don't understand why there was so much hatred for this movie. I just watched the 2.5 hour version and while it was never quiet, I didn't find it overwhelming. I admit, though, that i am a sucker for a good score and I thought the music and score throughout were just amazing. I think I'm going to have to watch it again to fill in the blanks, though. TLDR: I love this scene.
It’s a bit of an incoherent mess that you can’t really understand unless you read the prequel graphic novels. It’s pretty clear why people didn’t like this movie when it came out
Watched this movie as a kid, it was on a steaming service on my Xbox, I can't believe I'm here though, I guess now, all that's left is to just rewatch it.
Agreed, while it was an epic fail as Kelly tried so hard to do so much... the theatrical release is still solid after a few watches, while the 160 minute Cannes Film Festival Cut is by far the best format. This is slowly gaining cult status over the years, more and more people are beginning to actually understand the message, like the "twin Sean William Scotts" are really just "learn to forgive yourself for being you" and so on.... though the film is entirely full of subtle messages.
Eventhough the movie was, to many self-absorbed entities who wouldnt know a good film if it fell from their egotistical butts, a flop, there is one unequivocable truth...no one rocks the c**k like Crista Now and I mean no one!!😆
And in both it was the fantastic music too that really made them shine bright totally unique and i respect that to me it's an art film that's saying a lot aswell as being funny and deep all at once it deserves more respect.i watched this on a little bit of K with an old friend and I said "this film with Moby's amazing uplifting and emotional melodies is almost made to be watched on a mild to moderate ketamine dose and u stop trying to figure out everything and get enveloped by the atmosphere, humour, and total beautiful absurdity that is this amazing movie the 240min one a@@cglenister

Dwayne, in this movie, was a representation of society. His amnesia, represents that society has forgotten who it is, and what it is. The fact he's making a movie on it is representation, is that society sees it's own future without realizing it and wants to believe it's not real. The blood on his back at the end shows society is dying, and will die before the rest of the world falls. Ergo - Blimp = the world, crashing to it's death by the hands of a fate it designed. That answer it for ya?
Mandy Moore is a tall girl. Wikipedia says that she's 5"10. I know this isn't related to the video but, she made a clothing line for tall girls like her. Wow.
Every night humans pray to be saved..... and I pray that when we go its quick because we are so sick. Where's that meteor God? blast us back to the oneness..........
Err... what? So Stifler touching himself (hur hur) makes an ice cream van float in mind-air? And were The Rock and Buffy on the blimp? And therefore they all died?

apparently there was a comic book that explains all this shit but we never got to read it. but it seems to me like they made it so it wouldnt make sense on purpose. that way no one could say whether it sucks ass or not. but it does. suck ass, i mean.
naw you never find out the meaning of this movie ..but to prepare for a future with chaos, famine and destruction of humanity... war will bring humanity down and start a new begining

This in my top 5 favorite films of all time. But yet, I can't explain why. I just absolutely love it, and the graphic novels that went with it.

Here I am a year later, forgetting I commented and almost typed out the exact same sentence. This movie gets better and better. Pure genius.
And the Big Bang is likely an infinite number of rifts in space time caused by timeline paradoxes.
