The best part of him discovering that is someone commented "It's a long story." and there was just this general agreement in chat. Max didn't even know the reference, but he seemingly fully understood the vibe behind that comment and just gave the most "understandable" expression I've ever seen.

Its so great to see Max's reactions to this game completely out of context, but it's even better that he seemed to genuinely enjoy it too.

It's always fun when he finds himself having fun with a game he thought he would hate. Pokken had him similar, and in the end the reason he didn't play more of it was that it was an arena fighter rather than that it was Pokémon, which was his initial objection.

Legit any time I see Max trying anything far enough outside of his usual wheelhouse (usually anime) I expect half the video to be him acting repulsed by every little thing now.

As a trivia though, her actual Truck name is Dullahan but of course that is just about her actual ETS streams rather than for assist in this game in particular.

I had completely forgotten about the Sailor Moon S game, and was wondering why this fangame looked so familiar. Max made the connection for me, thanks Max.

I have this list of references for my friend who got into this game, but I feel like a shortened version who also work on this comment section and for Max, in the low chance that he reads it, too.
Supers:
-Suisei Hoshimachi: The super is more or less a reference to her refering to herself as a shooting star, or her name, being a comet. Suisei turns around and briefly references her artwork from her song, GHOST.
-Fubuki Shirakami: She swaps places with Fubuki KUROkami, which was originally her dark split personality which later became a separate being that acts like a roommate to Fubuki. Fubuki, obviously, does her voiceover when they're "interacting" on stream.
-Korone Inugami: The name of the move was referred to as "X-Potato" which was based on her misreading a name on a game's credits. Every item that she throws befor the potato were small references to her streams.
-Sora Tokino: The star shape resembles the star-shaped hairpin on her hair. The opponent gets attacked by Ankimo, Sora's mascot teddy bear.
-Ayame Nakiri: Her super is based on Holo no Graffiti, a weekly miniseries that premieres on the official Hololive channel. Random, non-sensical moments and jokes happen at a rapid pace without any explanation, including Ayame suddenly multiplying for no reason other than to make the episode confusingly chaotic.
-Botan Shishiro: There's no direct reference other than Botan's knack for playing shooters.
-Coco Kiryu: Her dragon form was based on her appearance at the Hololive Alternative animated trailer, which was, as the name implies, an alternative take on the girls' characters. Her actual dragon form is a cartoony-looking bright purple dragon.
-Aki Rosenthal: The flock of small creatures that ran around are the Rosetai, Aki's fanbase. Aki gets drunk due to her love of drinking before passing out. The man that strikes the opponent is Mukirose, who was originally her character for her ARK: Survival Evolved stream, but became so popular that he got an official redesign and serves as Aki's acquaintance.
Collabs (Assists):
-Mio Ookami: Her Tarot Card assist is based on the fact that she does yearly fortune telling streams with the mix of her personal knowledge of the fellow members to give advice to her girls. Some readings had been stated to very accurate, like how her reading on Oozora Subaru for 2023 is the refusal to admit that she (Subaru) is sick and underestimating her condition, which later happened after 5 months. Her other assist is based on one of her attacks in the Hololive Alternative manga and its first animated trailer.
-Marine Houshou: Her cannon assist is based on her music videos, where an alternative interpretation of her is that she's an actual pirate with a crew as opposed to her actual character lore, being a regular girl wearing a pirate costume because she has no money to afford an acutal ship. Her grab assist is not based on anything in particular but her "I'm Horny!" line was taken from a stream where she asked Coco on what is the English equivalent of the JP word "muramura". Coco answered as "horny", to which Marine immediately shouted "I'm Horny!" without hesistation.
-Kanata Amane: Her grab assist was based on her 50kg grip strength IRL that she got from doing heavy-lifting part-time jobs. It became so engrained to her character that, once it dropped to 40kg, she trained so hard to make it return to 50kg. Her tidal wave assist has her singing a Japanese sea shanty for fishermen, which is one of the weirder songs she chose to make a music cover with on her channel.
-Iroha Kazama: All of her assists are based on her character lore, being a samurai bodyguard for the "Secret Society HoloX".
-Risu Ayunda: The truck assist is based on the fact that she likes playing Euro Truck Simulator 2. Plus, she's into memes, so there's also the "Isekai Truck" meme being referenced there. Also, the "Chestnut Install" assist is just because Risu is a squirrel girl. Her name is literally just the Japanese word for squirrel.
-Kiara Takanashi: Her assists are based on her character being a phoenix, hence her affinity for fire. She has a tokusatsu-inspired shield and sword as part of her default design even though she said herself that she doesn't even touch any tokusatsu shows.
-Amelia Watson: The "Ground Pound" was a reference to her Super Mario Odyssey stream, where she turned it into her own form of "your mom" joke. The assist was performed by "Smol Ame", initially just a fanart made Walfie, "Smol Ame" was later considered by Ame as one her alternate dimension versions, with this one being classified as very mischievous. Smol Ame would later officially acknowledged when a mascot version was debuted during at HoloFes 2022. The time slow assist is based on her "unofficial" character lore, being a time traveler, as her "official" lore shows that she's a normal detective investigating a group of mythological beings. The time traveler stuff being something she came up as an excuse on why did she knew about a fad from a certain decade. Despite the unofficial status, the time traveler aspect was associated with her by fans.
-Roboco: Her assists were not based on anything specific to Hololive but are moreso based on the fact that she is a combat android.
-Miko Sakura: The assist with her tripping on the floor several times refers to her actual clumsy personality, which is humorously and ironically refered as "Elite". "FAQ you" is (obviously) their way of saying the F-word, in a way popularized by the legendary Ai Kizuna, who is one of the people that Miko looks up to. The lava assist was based on a popular clip of her accidentally burning her house in Minecraft after she misplaces her lava bucket which made her panic very loudly. The audio was taken from that very stream.
Correction about X-Potato: They things she's throwing (besides the potato) are a reference to a specific stream where in her Ending Making Time, she punished Listener-san for asking for a boob mousepad, and those are the various things she tortured them (us) with. Looks up Just Egg-san's clip of it. Pretty deep cut.
Also, Miko's "FAQ" is just "FAQ", not "FAQ you." FAQ = FAH-Que, so it sounds like "fuck you" with her accent.

In the description for Sora's super, it says the Ankimo's are the 13 "Knights of the Round Table", a nickname for the first 13 random viewers present for her debut stream.
Another correction about X-potato. The name she mispronounces is Expósito which is the name of a boss from the videogame Blasphemous.

- Risu NNN assist is basically Oro from SF 3rd Strike
- Max instantly recognized Marine's assist as Ruby Heart's Partenaire, who is also a pirate, in MvC
- Roboco is automatically recognized as the Doctor Doom assist from MvC
- Chat found that FBK and Korone's super is similar to Wolverine's ult from MvC
Knowing Max, the fact that Marvel vs Capcom and SF 3rd Strike are one of his most favorite fighting games of all, makes this even better

Risu getting tengu stones is really funny to me because I would never expect in a million fucking years that Risu and Oro would get any kind of association ever
The intersection of Max and HoloLive is one of those moments where the total lack of knowledge about any of the rich lore down that VTuber rabbit hole just makes everything _even more hilarious_ to watch and see from an external perspective.
Seeing Max come to the conclusions of his rankings was even more enjoyable than the rankings themselves, but just for reference on how they scale up from that perspective:

The Risu Isekai truck explains a lot of things. He lucky he didn't do it during November. The face when he saw Marine's assist and heard the signature words makes my day every time. Yes, she has actually said it and yes she was serious. In fact all the voice lines are from actual streams that have probably been clipped before including voice packs that the talents themselves did during stream for the Devs to use.

She's not purely a horny VTuber, but she has no intention of hiding that side of her either. A huge contributor to Yagoo's crushed dreams of idols

also, even more than the supers and assists, im glad to be able to see all the walk and run cycles. i wasnt too smitten by the sprites when i first saw them, but there is really a ton of effort and good ideas put into the animations.

Botan: Professional FPS Goddess who known for her laugher and has a massive Russian fanbase for Simple’s saying “Cover me I’m reloading” in Russian
Coco: a shitpost loving dragon who also loves the Yakuza series… if her last name being the last name of the oldest Yakuza MC didn’t give it away.
Kanata: Basically a Gorilla due to her grip strength.
Risu: someone has this little gag for November where it’s Nonstop Nut November as she’s a squirrel
Ame: possibly one of the few actual humans in Hololive lore wise
Korone: a dog based Vtuber who loves retro games and doing LONG STREAMS
At least, for the Amelias we've seen. Who knows what timelines haven't revealed their Ames...
You forgot to mention that Korone is a gore hound with a love for splatterhouse american horror, hence the DooM chainsaw

The grip that Kanata did is a reference to her actual irl grip strength which was I believe 55kg... it's probably went up tbh
I think the highest might've been clocked at 56kg, which is higher than an average grip strength for *MALES* (40-45kg). This has earned her a nickname - KanaGorilla, or just Gorilla for short.

Watching Max trying to come to grips with this game and all of its extremely niche references has me in stitches rn.
I also appreciate that Max is treating this like the fan game it is and not expecting extremely polished gameplay. After all it is still being actively developed. I honestly feel like the devs would love to get some tips from Max.
I really, REALLY hope that Max will eventually do Rate the Super videos for Arcana Heart 3, Nirtoplus Blasterz, Koihime Enbu, and Antinomy of Common Flowers.

The supers in this game are a case of if you get the reference, it's amazing. If you don't, it's not bad. And I love everything in this game
