Amazing the rate of which these updates are coming. So great that the team is listening to the community feedback. All I really need now is condition markers. Keep up the great work!
Seems like a lot of people are forgetting that this is still in beta testing...it hasn't officially launched so any complaints aren't really warranted. They're pretty much giving it the BG3 treatment by getting a lot of player feedback prior to full release.
@@adamharrison5286it’s been in Beta for over a year and encounters for roughly 4-5. The only reason they are leaving it in “beta” is so that it can be crappy and they can point back to that word and say - well maybe someday it will be great but now - it’s in beta. That said I am glad they prioritized this because without it - 2024 encounters were way too cumbersome to run in maps. I’m actually glad to see this starting to mature into something resembling a useable VTT- even if it’s still a super light one with very little actual functionality.
GOD YES! 10/10 I've been using maps for my most recent campaign and the initiative tracker was great, but I still had to use encounter builder, now I can do it all from maps and I'm excited. Only thing I want now is the ability to change a token image with a custom pic for those moments when a character is maybe disguised for instance in eve of ruin
Yes, this has now made maps one of the best vtts. I would be happy using this over roll 20 or any other vtt now. The only other big features I would like to see, is some sort of dynamic lighting tool similar to roll 20 and also the ability to create/draw your own maps within the vtt.
Missing features I'd like: - Rules-accurate diagonal measurement (6 diagonal squares says 40 ft on maps, but should be 30 ft) - Linking tokens, overlays, and measurements to the grid - Measuring as you move a token - Stepped measurements (measure 15 ft right, and 15 ft up, in one go) - Active token in initiative is highlighted
Hey lads, great work! So glad I don't gotta switch between tabs all the time anymore. I know others mentioned this but I'm hoping to boost it. Condition markers would be great!
This is all so rad. I love the attention to the little details that really show this tool is made by people who play the game and really care about the community.
Best update! I can do encounters easily now without two tabs and I can also make quick random encounters with this new system! I love it! No more encounter tool and maps, all in Maps now!
I've been loving the maps update me and my players have no issue with it. but some things that i would love to see be put in would be. 1. emanations aoe for tokens. it'll help with the many spells and abilities that have that type of aoe. i cant tell you how much my players and I grab the Circle aoe when trying to move tokens. i think it'll be a massive help 2. the only thing i think the map encounters needs for the maps is allowing the players initiative rolls to fill in kind of like the encounters beta. it'll make combat that much faster. 3. another great feature would be conditions. i do use the colors for some types like red is on fire or green is poison. but it'll be so much easier to be able to see it written. like what colored should prone be? what color is stunned? paralyzed? 4. and something that isn't really needed but would be cool to see is maybe a note box for tokens to write some special effects that are applied. like when the monsters next attack is at disadvantage, or its speed is reduce by 10ft, how high in the sky is it? or how deep underground is it?
Very nice! We just started a new campaign and so I've been able to use this right off the bat. It was a bit of extra effort to go back and forth to see stat blocks so it's nice to have them built in now. Now I just need some sort of sticky notes equivalent so as the DM I can have a note to myself on a particular room of the details such as door lock/trap, any treasure inside, etc.
Great update thank you! Question for you DND Beyond Map enthusiasts: Is there a way to have DM tokens (such as room numbers) on the map for us to see but not players?
AMAZING update folks and I started focusing on using Maps instead of other VTTS specifically bc I saw the work being put into it but also bc I'm a minimalist and believe that accessibility is as important to the digital tools we use as it is to the concept of say the iPhone. The next thing I would LOVE to see are icons representing conditions, spell effects and abilities that could be added to tokens and would like to see them in a concentric ring around the token instead of a block to the upper right or left etc. So if you had enabled Rage and you were hasted but also poisoned your token would say have a rage, hasted and poisoned icon at '12, 1 and 2 o'clock' and they would either be in the order of activation OR order of which has the least amount of effect time left. Another ask would be that we could set that time in rounds so as each round went by we wouldn't have to track those times and for those that were 1min or less it might ask the DM if they should be removed or not and for those that lasted longer they would stay unless manually removed. Yes this is very detailed, I just love not having to track these things (atm what I do is add the effect to the name of the PC/creature ex. my bladesinger name is Azrael so with multiple effect on him I'll change his name to "Azrael, bladesong, Tensers" as a reminder of the effects on him or on the monsters it could read, "Ice Devil, slow" Thanks again!
This new update is INSANE! We went from "useful tool" to "everything I need' in just a few weeks. Thank you SO much for this update and your continued development.
This is amazing! Additional features I'd like: dynamic fog measuring as you move a token resizing a token. I think resizing a token should have always been included since some PC's also have features that let them increase in size (goliath).
I recently started using maps and thought this is exactly what it needed. Then you added the encounters, but not this. I'm so glad you got to it so quickly. This is gonna be awesome Tuesday when i run my campaign
I just tried Maps for the first time last weekend and walked away in utter frustration that this fiction wasn’t there. Without it, the Maps part of the app was useless. Glad to see it was added.
One thing I'd still love to see as a feature is being able to change Monster AC within the Initiative Tracker. Take a simple Guard - AC is 16 as they have Chain Mail and a Shield. Well, what if my Guards use their Spear two-handed? Their AC should be 14. I could set up a Homebrew Monster for such cases, but it would be much easier to change it in the Tracker (and save me from needing to homebrew EVERY monster with a Shield to account for times they don't use one). Similarly, though slightly different use case: I have a Mage, that Mage has Shield as a spell, I want to be able to temporarily set the AC up by 5 points, then change it again on their next turn.
Incredible. This tool is getting better and better, and it's still only in beta. I wish the max file size for map uploads was a bit bigger though. I have some high res maps that I would love to use but the file size is too large.
Crucial update, I was one of the people asking for it. It's becoming more enticing to use Maps instead of Foundry, especially because of the UI. I admit that what still keeps me on Foundry is the ability to make/use mods and the little details like automation, but I imagine this tool will become better and better.
Wow this is amazing i was talking about it and saying it missed this!. The only thing we need right now is a way to show status condition, like prone, charmed, or concentration. And away to lock to things to eachother for aura's or mounted combat. P.s. and a way to edit the token picture for player characters cause some stretch out a bit weird
These updates are great. I'd like to see this level of communication for the rest of the D&D Beyond tools. The team has been mute on the 2024 rules rollout since initial launch.
Maybe adding some decorative placable items such as chest traps camp fires basic stuff so we can rely on drawing less when it comes to improw additives to maps
1 - Can we add generic tokens? For NPCs for exemple, withou the need of creating them on the website. Sometimes is just a generic merchant. 2 - Add notes to the map that can be moved around. For exemple the description and DC of a trap. Or helping notes that the players can't see. It would be much easier to DM.
One thing that would be nice is the ability to choose the 2014 or 2024 version of spells or monsters. Yes, I know that Phandelver was written with 2014 monsters who had 2014 items and spells, but I may want to utilize the 2024 options without browsing to another web page and looking thw information up. I do not know from a UI perspective what the easiest way to do this would be, but I would like the option.
Would love if this incorporates player stats as well. even if its just the ability scores snapshot like the monsters now have. I'm sure this is more complicated but it would be awesome!
For the record, I am not a DM only a player. I do have a few questions. When will Bastions be available on D&D Beyond? Can the Arcane Study enspell weapons as well as items?
so I recently canceled my dnd beyond sub because I am waiting for 3d dice rollable on screen (the shared MAPS screen) not just the players view. I also am hoping that an update will allow players to click on their token and pull up a character sheet ( as well as the DM). Lastly I need a place to record my session infor aka a game journal. when all this is in the app, I will be back...promise!
I really like this tool but it's currently next to unusable for me. When will the ability for a DM to use tokens they don't personally own be available?? I can't use most of the tokens as "The monster token isn't in the DM's content library". Together our group owns 99% of the content and have sharing enabled, yet I cannot use maps. When is this going to be fixed or are you trying to force all the DMs to have to purchase everything??
While it's great having Monster Stat Blocks and Rollables right there on the Initiative Tracker in Maps, what is the point in having the Rollables if we can't roll with Advantage or Disadvantage, and we can't roll Crit Damage? It doesn't even recognise that a Crit Hit was rolled! The functionality to right-click and roll with Advantage and Disadvantage already exists on DnDBeyond, so why is that not a thing for Maps?! DnDBeyond also already recognises when a Crit is rolled, so why is that not a thing for Maps? DnDBeyond also already allows us to roll Crit Damage, so, again, why is that not a thing for Maps? Again, it's great to have the stat blocks there and have at least SOME form of Rollables, but the Rollables don't do what we need them to do! Sure, there are workarounds (roll twice for Adv/Disadv, and roll using the custom roller for additional crit damage), but there shouldn't need to be workarounds since these functions already exist on DnDBeyond!
Still clunky combat compared to free tools like “Improved initiative”. Main monster attack hidden in main statblock?? Why? I want to roll attacks far more often than saves. The UI is not in line with gameplay in my opinion.
AS per usual a multi button pushing to get what other VTT's have in one. What a waste of time and money, it doesn't matter what you do to the VTT it is going to be a second rate version. Agreed!
Yeah, keep it coming folks!
THIS CONDITION MARKERS WOULD BE HUGE
@ the colours don’t mean much unless everyone references a table. I have been renaming the tokens and adding the name of the condition for now.
For your consideration: seconding the condition markers! And also being able to resize tokens would be clutch!!
This is huge! I saw somebody complaining about this feature being missing just a couple days ago on Reddit, so I’m glad this is an option now!
LOL I was DM'ing and had thoughts like this the other day!

Looks great! Its many many years late but grateful your finally doing something with Maps. Keep em coming, this update looks very good. Thank you!
How do you disable it "rolling initiative " for every token ie. 5 goblins. Considering rules state Sam's minsters roll initiative as a group ....
In my last session with my group, I was wishing for this feature. Amazing.
Great update, the speed at which you guys matched the feedback was great.
Absolutely perfect!!!! We just need the ability to add custom tokens and we’ll be set!
AWESOME! NO longer need to keep both this and encounter builder open at the same time!

im starting to run out of things to suggest? Maybe a built in video conference and chat feature? like i dunno they are nailing it
Can you make a maps function where dms and players can create a map for bastions?
