Now the only question is, what happens to Kurt after part 4???

Just something about these old hot wheels movies that bring me back to them. Charm and Messaging. Even today Vert is my favorite, because he taught me what it's like to be unselfish and to deal with imposter syndrome. Insane that it was a high standard of writing back then for a small kids show.

I would also like to note, I felt the same ways about the cars feel in AcceleRacers... They feel weightless or janky. In highway 35 the cars always felt like they had weight and the drivers were handling these beasts of vehicles... AcceleRacers feels like when you watch F1 and watch these aero-focused vehicles turning on a dime. I'm sorry, but and Rx8 stalls if you look at it funny, so as an adult I loose some immersion.

I remember wanting Vert’s car so much as a kid. I kept calling the movie “The blue car movie” whenever I asked my mom if she could put it on for me. I remember rediscovering the movie randomly a few years ago after forgetting about it and finding out my roommate also grew up with it, and checking out an edit that had Eurobeat to make it feel like Initial D. Was a pretty fun time

The Accelerons, their beliefs and creations are what made me love this series, I knew of racing skills & have incentive to get better and sharpen skills because of this series but now understand it all better and now have been far better in racing games than I was, no more crashing and being reckless & dumb with my decisions because I was shxt and now think I can play Grand Turismo 3 and other games better without tuning & modifications.
Edit:Okay incentive to get better wasn't something I understood until a few years ago, like I think 3 or something.

This was a pretty good video! Acceleracers to this day is my favorite movie series, and it’s just awesome! And I really liked the start where you talked about trains lol. As a Railfan, trains are what mainly feed my passion for anything on wheels, so much to the point that I record them. Anyways, this video pointed out a lot of the things I love about Acceleracers myself. How the racing aspect of it really makes me enjoy it.

Omg I remember having that swamp track set as a kid. I adored Hot Wheels back then, especially AcceleRacers. So much so that I would try to get a new Hot Wheels car every time we went to the store. I even grew up playing the games. Hot Wheels just isn't what it once was, but it holds a special place in many of our hearts.

  • @vanderan

Wow, are we the same person? Like literally you hit on everything that I've loved relating to racing media in a single video, even the Thomas the Tank Engine bit. I actually started with the Speed Racer anime as a kid, and somehow we got the Highway 35 DVD. I fell in love with its cars, tracks, and characters (especially Banjee). When watching Acceleracers I think we were using the old version of Netflix, like the one where they mailed the movie to you, so I was only ever able to watch bits and pieces. I was hooked on the Wyldes' story, Vert's character growth, Kadeem's depressing and horrifying fate, and NO BANJEE MY BOI HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME AHHHH
When my dad (who got me into the Speed Racer anime) told me about the Speed Racer movie, and that we were going to see it, I got so fervently excited. When the movie actually delivered on my hype, oh man, I was on a high for weeks. Its racing scenes, its slower moments, and especially the Royalton's office scene were so, so good. Easily my favorite movie ever.
Ford V. Ferrari is also a favorite of mine. I've only seen it once, so I definitely need to get around to seeing it again.
It's honestly because of Speed Racer and Acceleracers that I've always wanted to make my own comic with my own characters, cars, and tracks. In a way, I guess it would be my way of playing with my Hot Wheels again. Don't know if I ever will, considering that I've got a lot on my plate now as an adult, and I've hardly any sort of skill in art, but it would still be fun regardless.
In any case, I'm really glad I came across this video, you did a great job and you really reminded me of what I used to do as a kid. Thanks for that (also sorry for the paragraph lol)

Oh... So thats why I loved Acceleracers so much, it makes sense! I was exactly the age of a small, pre-school kid when I saw the Acceleracers for the first time, and I loved it INSTANTLY exactly because it was aimed for older audience. That with the fact I was probably younger than the aimed age group made Acceleracers for me a quality, "older kids stuff is cool" thing that I grew up with. Even at that age, I saw its quality- for the time awesome graphics, great story, absoluty thrilling story and banger music.... Yeah, no wonder we all lost sht about it :D

God i remember when i was like 6 and video stores were still a thing. We went to one and my dad said i could pick one out. It ended up be Hot Wheeles: Acceleracers. "Breaking point." Now i had already had the VHS for World Race, but had no idea the movies were connected in anyway. I just saw cool cars go fast and explosions and was hooked. I probably watched that movie 10 times over the 3 day weekend we rented it. I never knew there were other movies or they were connected to World race until i was 10. To this day as a 23 year old, is still love these movies and quote and discuss them with my 18 year old brother. We even had a talk today about what would happen if two people from differemt factions tied a race. Would they split the accelecharger in half? I wish they would have made movie number 5 back then, but not now.

I think the best way to bring this back is for them to do its own dedicated video game. Can replay through the story, add realms we didn’t see on film. Add extra cars. The accelechargers akin to powerups. And it’s a prefect setup for multiplayer/competitive racing. Mix forza and hot wheels unleashed 😂

  • @ZackFair78

Like you said the only reason I’m glad AR ended when it did is that it wasn’t ruined by gimmicks that took away from hot wheels and cars in general.
It’s why I can’t quite enjoy BF5 because it’s not hot wheels or car related at all in a sense.
Also the vibe and aesthetic of HW35/AR was great and it complimented the strengths of what I found to be great for these and that’s that sense of wonder and imagination sorta like you would have when playing with the toys themselves.
Then having such fun characters and stories only made it better. It all has an otherworldly yet grounded feel that would have been ruined and that’s evident by BF5.

Really appreciate this retrospective & analysis. This series and Speed Racer were amongst my favorite childhood memories of the 2000’s.
Jeff did an AMA five years ago about World Race and some of the things related to the series that were previously unknown:
-The story was based on a D&D sci-fi fantasy RPG campaign that he created, titled GLOBAL RUN: 2020 (oh my, THAT year….)
-The movie project was green lit in 2002 but Mattel wanted the first episode on store shelves in the fall. Leading to Jeff and his team with only five or six months to put everything together on crunch time of a 16 hour work week.
-The main characters were based on aspects of Jeff’s personality and people he had meet in his life
-There was suppose to be an ocean leg but they didn’t have time to animate it so it was mostly switched to ice.
-The 35 different drivers and their backgrounds were selected to be a worldwide representation of the togetherness felt after 9/11.
-Original ending of World Race was suppose to be more grand and conclusive. With explanations of the SCRIM & CLYP orgs, the competing factions of the Accelerons who wanted the Wheel of Power.
-The series was going to establish a link between the original 1960’s Hot Wheels cartoon. Vert Wheeler being the grandson of Jack “Rabbit” Wheeler (his father being Jack Wheeler Jr) was in the original story bible.
-Some of the favorite side characters were suppose to be more involved in the story. Especially one of the lady drivers: Esmerelda Sánchez. Jeff had “big plans” for her involving a cut plot thread where there was going to be a rivalry between her and Banjee and they would settle it in a race. Dan Dresden had a scene in the final of the movie deleted where he introduced himself as new team leader, Kurt’s motivations for working with Gelorum were going to be explored more in depth, etc.
-Jeff initially wasn’t a fan of Acceleracers since it had deviated heavily from what his idea of a sequel series would’ve been like but he grew to appreciate it.
He also commented and confirmed many of the fan theories going around as well:
-The Deora II was meant for Vert’s father until Tezla switched it to Vert at the last minute. (Was written in the early script drafts).
-Banjee did not perish in Acceleracers. He became one of the Silencerz along with possible Alec Wood and Dan Dresden.
-He implied that Esmerelda & Krakatoa became more than just friends in World Race.
-The SCRIM corporation was a front for the Silencerz
-Tezla had a retrieval system for drivers and their cars lost in the World Race legs in the story bible. Especially those who were victims of sabotage (Lani, Toño, Esmerelda etc) which is how they and/or their cars ended up back in the cube complex.
-Markie’s introduction was suppose to be a homage to the original Speed Racer. He got to the second staging area by hiding in the trunk of one of the cars.
He was so amazed at the response and passion fans had for the series and would love to come back and work on the universe he created. Keep up the Good work!

i was a huge fan of all cars as a kid. i got the world race movie when i was like 9 and watched it probably 50 times. it was my favorite movie at the time and as soon as i saw an acceleracers ad on the official hotwheels page, i begged my mom to buy me each movie. overall, i loved the films and the new characters/cars/themes. my only disappointment with the series as a whole was that apart from a throwaway line about dresden, alec, and banjee, there was little connection between the original 35 racers and the acceleracers. i was such a fan of the world race, that i wanted to see more from just the wyldes, vert, taro, lani, and kadeem. however, the fact that mattel shut the whole project down before its proper conclusion and a rumor that some of the old racers were just silencerz that worked with vert's dad helped me cope with my main issue. i wish it continued because it was really good

i just recently discovered acceleracers and watched all the movies a few weeks ago amd i love it. i regret not being into it as a pre teen when it was released. at that time got out of hotwheels,i got my first xbox and got hooked onto Halo. i knew about the highway 35 movies and cars but didnt look into buying the cars. now it feels to late to buy them *cries* also to note...i feel a sence of nostalgia over acceleracers eventhough i never saw it as a kid and i know why, mainframe made it and also made Reboot and Beast wars, similar animation styles and all and i grew up with those 2 shows in the 90s.

I wasn't exactly the biggest Hotwheels fan as a kid.I had a few cars I think, but really it was Acceleracers and Battle force five that I know from the series.
I wanted to watch the world race but could never find it as a kid. Now Acceleracers it is top class awesome 😊. Robots, science fiction, cool alien worlds and monsters within...
I made up my own set of accelachargers out of tin foil and markers😅. The characters definitely help a lot to draw me in, mostly Vert, Kurt and Wylde, and Porkchop.
    Awesome video

Turned 30 this past July. Still love this series to death and would love to see Jeff Gomez given the keys to make a proper sequel to his work. World race is perfect and even though Jeff did not work on AcceleRacers, I loved the mature story and nods to highway 35. I just wished the character re-designs were not as drastic along with massive hands and feet...even the cars in AcceleRacers looked a little stubby / goofy. Wheels are way too big and the wheelbases appearing too short.
Anyway, I could never express my love and fandom in the way you did in this very well made video. Amazing job!!!

Great video - love seeing how Hotwheels impacted other peoples childhoods. I wish you played the DS version of Hotwheels Beat That!, it was phenomenal in my opinion. I also didn't know there was a new Hotwheels video game out til I saw this, will definitely be checking out Unleashed. I need to ask, was I the only one who played with my toy hotwheels and had a race going on in my head while watching World Race/Acceleracers in the background? That was so much fun

Honestly, the cars as weapons things, could have lived without that for the toys, but I would have totally bought them just to have figures of the characters. Because the designs were still cool.
