My step father passed to colon cancer, and my mother took care of him the entire time and it was absolutely horrible. They were married since I was a toddler. You dont realize what all goes into taking care of a terminally ill person for half a year until you have been through it, it is scarring for so many reasons. His two sons were upset because they felt they didnt get enough (they got plenty), even though they only ever called when they wanted something from him, even when he was dying. One of them even stole from him multiple times, neither came to help take care of him at all. Its easy to sympathize with the child because a step parent gets the money when they pass, but you dont always know the whole story.
The entitlement is crazy.. children are provided for when they can't provide for themselves.. when we marry someone, it's meant to be for life.. children need to stop acting like their parents owe them after their grown.. a marriage for a couple yrs, fair enough, but 10+ yrs and they looked after them in cases of terminal illness, just disgusting to see the entitlement..

Sadly, some people think that when a loved one dies, it's _finders keepers, losers weepers_ when it comes to the deceased's property, money, stocks/bonds, etc. This sucks because unless the other family members have the time and/or money to take them to court, they end up getting off scot-free.
Sadly, people at a glance would look at the plaintiff and think it's wrong for him to sue his step daughter. Some nonsense about "never sue family, that's terrible." I don't care if you're related to me or not. If you do the wrong thing, I'm going to hold you accountable. I told my brother after I entered college: "you steal from ever again, I'm taking your ass to court. Don't think I won't." He knew I wasn't playing around and he never stole from me again.
